What would be the advantage ( if any ) of looping out of one receiver to another?

It seems to me that whatever sat the controlling receiver is set to, would also be

for the looped receiver.....and if you are using the same tv, wouldn't you need an

A/B switch? Is it just to be able to add another tv, say to another room? I ask

because I see the loop out ports on both receivers, and I can't really see the benefit.

What would be the advantage ( if any ) of looping out of one receiver to another?

I have the loop out of my Coolsat 6000 SD receiver connected to many PC tuners for DVB-S2, BLSA (Spectrum Analyzer), and other video that the SD receiver does not play (4:2:2 and HD).

I use the loop out to hook an analog receiver to it for the in the clear channels on C-Band
Another reason I can see is they have a receiver they use for blind scanning then have a receiver that can do "more" (ie: azbox, pc card) and they dont want to run a new line so they blind scan with the "main" receiver then turn off that receiver and load the HD/4:2:2 channels into the azbox/pc card and view them that way

and we all kinda got the same point across ;)

Back when Equity was on G10/G18 some Sunday's I would string 3 or 4 FTA recievers together via loop out and watch the various baseball games they would carry :)

Ok, that makes sense....are you saying that after blind scanning with the main receiver, you

can load those channels into the looped receiver?....and if so, I would assume that that

process is done while the main receiver is still on? To restate the question, can the looped

receiver see the blind scanned channels of the main rec. when it (the main rec.) is turned off?

Example

I scan 91W with the CS5000 and find 2 HD sports feeds. The Coolsat 5000 wont play them so I write down the TP info
I enter the TP info into the azbox and scan them in. I have one sat labelled "motor"
I turn off the Coolsat and watch via the azbox

If the CS is on I can only get same polarity on the azbox

I use the loop out very often, and in many different configurations, depending on what I'm doing and what equipment I'm using. The latest has been looping my two Visionsats together on C-Band for the various NASA feeds. One was recording SD, the other was recording HD, and another loop went to a PCI DVB card in a PC (for monitoring HD, which the Visionsat can't display). All of that viewing/recording was using a single cable coming into the building. Having a bandstacked LNBF adds a new level of functionality to the loop throughs :) ...

For another example, the signal meter on my AZBox is less responsive than the meter on my Coolsat 5000 receiver. Therefore, I use the LOOP OUT of my AZBox to feed my Coolsat 5000 receiver to monitor the signal level of a known TP on a small, portable TV. Then, on my main TV, I control the motor positioning with the AZBox. When I dial in the satellite with the motor control of the AZBox, I watch the signal quality reading on the Coolsat and when the signal is peaked, I can record the satellite position with the AZBox.

For my example, I was trying to lock onto Hispasat 1C/1D at 30°W. For USALS, 30°W is out of range from my longitude position, so I must use DiSEqC 1.2 to position the motor and the dish antenna by manually driving it east or west and back and forth until I locate the signal. Since the AZBox meter was so slow to respond, I kept passing it by without noticing it. So, I hooked up the Coolsat to the LOOP OUT so that I could utilize its meter.

This is just one more example to add to the other reasons, which I also utilize depending upon the circumstances.

Very interesting, thanks for all the input. I'm gonna hook up my cw600s to the Coolsat's loop out port, and play around with it. I did notice a huge increase in the quality from the Coolsat compared to the cw600s, so the example you gave may come in handy....I really like the Coolsat's GUI, blind scanning, and fast boot up, and other feature's, but I have to give credit to the CaptiveWorks' as well, for example, the channel lists on the cw600s are much more user friendly and a lot more accessible. Also when switching to another sat, the CW will display the channel list first, let you select which channel you want, then it will move the dish. The Coolsat, starts moving immediately when a new sat is selected, and goes to the last channel you were on. I miss the ease of use of the cw600s, but that's about all.

The meter on the Coolsats are deceiving though...

63 is threshold whereas other reciever (CW as example) it may be as low as 20-25. The Captiveworks read low. I had a 600 and a feed that would register 78-79 on Coolsat would register a 58-60 on the Captiveworks.

Converselly a low quality feed may read 66 on the Coolsat but 30 on the Captiveworks

I have noticed the quality gap too....the cw600s was getting 68-70 on the RTN channels, 83W, and 94-97 on the Coolsat, and similar readings on pretty much every sat. I remember reading about this topic on here before, how different stb's quality meters give different readings. All in all, I do prefer the Coolsat. Before I got the Coolsat, I also got an nFusion Nova from eBay, which proved to be more suited as a paper weight.....it wouldn't do anything, even after loading the factory firmware....total piece of junk in my opinion.

I have tried this to a limited degree, but have always been suspicious of my results. The scanning receiver was after the hd reciever. I would turn off the scanner after doing the scans. The reason I questioned my results was because the signal strength on the scanner would be about 20 degress below the viewer but quality did not seem to suffer.

Just for the sake of my sanity and to avoid frying anything am I correct in assuming that :-
LNB is connected to LNB of Box1, the loop out from box 1 is connected to the LNB in of Box 2 ?
Thanks
Tony

while on this topic, I recently ordered a DVBWorld from Sadoun and while I wait for it to arrive I was wondering if I could simply use the loopout from the Coolsat 6000 and connect it to the DVBworld and get it to work, granted I have the Coolsat on. I assume I would also need the Coolsat to be on a C Band Sat if I wanna use the loopout to the DVBWorld and scan C band (or Ku Band if that were the case)?
