I saw a new D* commercial yesterday where they claimed to be the HD leader, the validity of which has been discussed in depth on this forum.

What I found to be interesting on the commercial is the fact that D* claims that they now have the capacity for over 200 HD channels. Other commercials have said 'soon to have the capacity' but this commercial claims to already have the capacity. I even reversed the DVR to make sure I heard correctly.

I thought D* wasn't going to have that capacity until D12 was live. If D* already has that capacity, what's the hangup on adding more National HD channels?

And if they have the capacity now and aren't using it, what evidence is there that they will use it after D12 is operational? Tell us what your plans are Directv, don't just leave us hanging.

They say "capacity" as if it means anything. If and when they use that capacity to catch us up on national HD, then it will mean something. "Capacity" does not make you the HD leader. Actual HD makes you the HD leader.

Well if Charlie had the capacity he would have NFLST... It not always about price, like he like you to believe. DTV is lacking some hd channels because we did not have capacity to support NFLST and new fulltime channels.

Yep D* likes to cater to Billion dollar sports packs, instead of premiums and fulltime HD channel.

Apparently they and any other provider can say whatever the heck they want about HD capacity, being the HD leader, most channels, etc as no one at the FCC, state attorney generals office or other government regulator seems interested in keeping them honest.

Yea somehow I doubt it. He's not into spending that kind of money on sports packs , he never was.

Actually Charlie has stop bidding. Last bid Charlie did not meet the requirements for carriage of the package. E* and indemand both could not promise 100% HD Carriage of all games. Hence why the 1B a year contract extention was granted. As no other qualified carriers were out there.

USA is the NFL and NFL only wants carriers to carter to there ever whim.

OH SNAP!! Yea but we could have over compressed movie channels showing the same thing!:D The HD on the Ticket LOOKS GREAT!:up

I said it before DTV is the NFL's female dog.

I love Dish I think they are a good company that I dont always agree with. But Charlie not even trying. Is he affraid that he might out bid Directv. Only thing Charlie would do by bidding is screw over direct as it would force direct to spend more on the package by over bidding dish.

Charlie does not bid because Charlie not willing to make the demands the NFL have asked for. Every NFL stadium has NFLST brought to you by Directv. Charlie too cheap to wire up one stadium for NFLST>

OH i hear you. I have had Directv ,Dish and Voom. Man i really miss VOOM!! They all have or had their good and bad!

who cares about premiums when netflix is cheaper?

Sad thing is I get Premier for 0.00 and I have 8 at a time netflix why because I get to watch what I want to watch when I want to watch it with out spending 5.99 a ppv hd movie. Or waiting 2 years for it to show up on a premium network.

Though I do watch showtime for

Penn and Teller BullSh!t

Well if Charlie had the capacity he would have NFLST....
ST goes to the highest bidder. Having capacity does not = ST. And if Charlie had the capacity why would he want it? Its not a big money maker. I think Charlie has been pretty successful with his tightwad ways so far.

Ah, if only Dish carried ST I would jump ship in a heartbeat. I really miss their DVR. I also like movies. I lived for years without ST but now that I've had it I'm hooked just like everyone else who has moved from one part of the country to another. If only D would just make a few simple changes to their DVR I'd be a happy camper.

Its not a highest bidder issue any more. It is the highest Qualified bidder NFL set forth a minimum specification of what they want and as long as you meet that your fine.

Just like I would not higher contractor to do my driveway in brick if the only thing he knew how to do was poor concrete slabs.

We did not push the ext. of the contract the NFL did. If Dish wanted to launch another satellite and dedicate the tp space that dtv has then meet the other requirements then the NFLST would be on Dish .

Last time Charlie bid on the package was when HD was still new and the NFL had not set the HD carriage rule in the contract. I feel accient even thinking about it as I remember being a dish sub going ohh this might be the year that we get nflst opened up to everyone...

Bottom Line

NFLST will remain with Directv until there is simply either no more DTV or no more NFL they arebound at the hip. As DTV will simply just Bid more, problem is no one qualified to bid against them yet. Dish and Cable have decided not to even bother trying.

You dont have to have ST to be sucessful .... It just nice to have.
