Question: On a VIP622 receiver, pointed at 61.5, 72.7, 110, 119 - IF there are duplicate channels on 2 sats, how does the receiver pick which ones to use? Basically, it appears that 72.7 has the same channels as 119, so which one will the receiver default to on dup. channels? Does it just pick the ones with the highest signal level?

Should I remove, and redo all my timers, in case channels have now swapped to a different sat?

Primestar,

Which Orbital slot your receiver picks for Channels that reside on more than one orbital slot you are receiving appears to be selected at random, as I have a similar installation 61.5/110/119/129, and I have noticed some times my HD receiver will select the 129 orbital slot and sometimes the 61.5 orbital slot for channels that are uplinked at both orbital slots.

You do not have to redo your timers the receiver will select one orbital slot over another randomly. In your case though SD channels recorded from 72.7 will use a lot less Hard Drive space as all of the SD channels at 72.7 are encoded in MPEG-4.

The tech is here now and is saying that Maine is too far East for the Eastern Arc 1000.4 dish, so he's installing a third dish on my roof. He's says I'll be able to get all of the HD channels now. I guess I'm lucky you can't really see the dishes on my roof. Does his statement make sense to you?

Right now with my 2 dish set up I receive 61.5, 110 and 119, but I'm missing some HD channels...(Fox Soccer Channel)

Where in Maine are you? I am in Houlton and scheduled tomorrow for a EA install.
I'm beginning to wonder if I want three dishes on my house for 9 new channels.

my install saga

Well the installer came ready to go some 25 minutes before the start of his day at 8am.

He brought in the 722k. He at first seemed not to know about the installation of the 1000.4. Once realzing that he needed to he went about putting the parts together for the dish assembly. His original plan was to mount it where the dish 500 was and just let hang the wing dish at 61.5. The dish 500 is almost at the peak of the roof. When he realized that there was still to much snow and ice on the roof to reach it he decided to put the dish 1000.4 where the 61.5 was located. That dish is lower down on the roof. The dish 500 was at this lower location too in the past but was raised to the hgiht location that it presntly is do to the obstructions of trees next door to my development. I've never had any problems in this lower location for the 61.5 do to the different direction it points to the trees next door. He did change out for a longer mast with supports when he put the 1000.4 in the former location of the 61.5. So on the roof now I have a 1000.4 and a disconnected dish 500.

I personally swapped out the 301d receiver for the 211k for him. Once he was done on the roof he did all the setups on this 211k and my 722k. All works great. Now getting the new hd channels.

I do notice one thing though since being on the eastern arc that I don't recall seing on the western arc. When I select a new channel the sound is instant, but there is a delay of a couple of seconds for the picture. Anyone else notice this?

The only complaint that the tech had about this job was that he had tol carry around from the front of my townhouse from his parking space his ladder. He had to bring it from the front to the back of the house. I must admit there was still some four inches of snow on the ground that had to carry it through. I never looked to see if there was or how much snow there was on the roof. I just took his word for it when he told me his decision as to where to decide to install the dish. I did initally think that perhaps he just didn't want to climb to the top fo the roof snow or not if he didnt' have to.

All in all everything went well. Again the install was for free. The 211k was for 450 do that I already got a free receiver upgrade when I received in December my 722k.

My tech said that they are NOT suppose to install 1000.4 dishes in Maine because we are too far east. (I'm on the Midcoast) I guess when Dish launched their eastern arc satellite they "missed" and that's why they have poor signals. He said he has actually had to go back to customers with 1000.4 installed and put the "3 dish" system in it's place due to signal loss.

Now I have 3 on the roof, all connected to one line coming in. There is now a new "switch" attached outside to handle on the feeds coming in. (so no new wiring inside). He did have to add a some kind of external power boost to the 722 receiver. I have all the channels now, but 1 extra dish and an extra power source plugged into power strip, but that's it.

So which satellites are the 500s going to be pointed at? I'm not quite sure how this is going to solve the problem if it's an issue with the receiver not handling channels being on multiple satellites correctly.

I'm not sure which satellites or if this is going to fix the problem. If not I will go back to 1 500 & 1000.4 and not have the 3 channels. I will let you know what happens Thur.

Timeline on promtional code

Thanks to these forums I was ready to make my call to Dish. I wasn't getting Fox soccer channel in HD, so I made the call.(In Maine with 110/119/ 61.5) It took over 2 hours and 6 different reps, but it appears they are sending a tech out Sat. to install the new 1000.4 dish.

I think it's important to state that 2 of the phone reps, told me I HAD to find a local Dish dealer, buy the new dish and have it installed at my cost. I was polite and refused to do that. One offered to have my dish reposition, but I'd lose my local channels, and I told him I'm paying for their service and it's not my fault they won't send me the needed signals. Finally I was sent to Customer Loyalty. They were very nice, but couldn't help, so they FINALLY sent me to Tech. Support.

This is were I finally got some real help. They agreed to send the dish at no cost. I was told that dish is sending everyone a promotional code to upgrade to the new dish, but that it wasn't on my account yet. They were going to give me the promotion so there would be NO cost. I was then sent to one of the Senior Tech Supervisors who was very friendly (Even provided me with a direct number to her desk), and promised to everything taken care of tomorrow.

In the end I was very happy with the service, BUT if I hadn't read the forums I would have left the first rep. thinking I would have to buy a new dish and that's just wrong. To make it worse, Dish is prepared to send out promotions to avoid this whole mess, but nobody seemed to know about it atthe Customer service or Customer Loyalty departments. Now as long as the tech. shows up tomorrow, we should be all set.

Thanks to all on the forums for the help, and I hope this helps someone else.

Any time line on the promotional code?

confused newbie

Hi all I'm sorry if i sound like a total novice here. I was wondering how you can know if you can receive a signal from the eastern arc? I live in san antonio, tx if that helps. Also, how can you find out what kind of dish you have (ex. 1000.4, etc). I haven't seen the new channels yet, so I'm obviously not getting them. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My receiver is a 722 ViP and I have HD Gold and top 250. Thanks!

I'm anxious to know what happens. In another thread, Scott says that they've sent out a notice to the effect that they'll be moving other channels from 61.5 to 72.7, so people should get their dishes switched. So they'd better come up with a solution for our area! Not getting the locals in HD is bad enough, but to not be able to get some of them at all due entirely to their own stupidity is ridiculous.

Had my install this morning, about 2 1/2 hours, which appears to be very similar to your install. She replaced the existing dpp twin lnb with two dual lnb's, installed another Dish 500 with one dp single lnb (72 sat) and ran new line from all three dish to a new dp 44 switch. Left the HD 61.5 dish alone. Because of the new switch, I also needed the videopath inserter attached to the back of my Vip 722.
Not crazy about all the hardware stuck to the side of my house, but every thing works great.

Please pardon my ignorance here, but where is the DPP44 switch installed? Is it at the dish, in the attic/basement or near the equipment? This switch requires to be plugged in right?

How will we receive the promotion code for the upgrade for the new HD channels?
I get online billing and auto pay, so will it be emailed, snail mailed or just posted to my account?
I wasn't going to worry about it yet, but just saw a $5 increase in my statement, so now I want everything I am paying for.

It can be installed outside near the dishes. You use a power injector to get electricity to it using coax. No need to have it right next to an outlet or anything.

My installers showed up Saturday before noon, as promised. They reset the pole to be level (the original guy just shoved them in the ground, installed EA and removed both the 500 and the wing.

Because my grounding was set up on the old 110/119 pole and that pole didn't have LOS to EA, I now have an empty pole sitting there without a dish just to ground the install.

Would there be any reason to put up a wing for 129 on it? I have as old ExpressVu dish in my basement and I hate to waste a perfectly good pole. ;)

Tech just left my EA upgrade, taking my two 500's and leaving me a new 1000.4 dish. Gone in 90 minutes and that included having to recharge his signal meter...

I'm happy!!
