Slow response to commands

I have a Dish 5XX DVR. Just recently, I noticed that either via remote OR the buttons on the front panel it takes the machine several seconds to respond to the command. It's almost as if the CPU inside is busy and cannot respond to commands quickly enough. Is there a way to re-set this machine (Not the 6-1-6 factory reset) and get the hard drive re-formatted? Maybe it's fragmented. Or there a possibility that something downloaded from the satellite has screwed up the internal code?
Thx.

One thought: check menu+6+1+3 to see than you only have the satellites you use in the switch matrix. Extraneous satellites would cause delays and failed recordings. If so, remove the satellite cable and do a switch check, menu+6+1+1+check+test, IIRC. This will clear the matrix and do 38 steps. Re-attach the satellite cable and re-run the switch check showing 4 steps (non-Legacy LNBs). Set aside 20 minutes for these tests.

Nope - NG. Thanx anyway. I've done searches and I've found that Direct TV guys have same problem w HR20 and HR21 units once a certain code level is installed. Even though these 5XX DVRs are old do small patches still go on?

I notice my 500 series is a lot slower to respond to remote commands than my 721 as well, just figured it was because it was older technology and I was used to the new box running a lot faster, kind of like getting a new PC. Could this be it? I've even wanted to get rid of the 501 because of that fact but dish doesn't make any better SD DVR.

I've seen this before and not just on DVR receivers. The receiver is starting to fail. Unfortunately there is nothing you can do through resetting, restarting or rebooting it, the only solution is to replace it.
