40 miles NW of Omaha. Omaha?
I missed the start of this but, I have it recording now so I will have it for posterity.

This is really great! I heard them announce Jan and Dean and I think it is called the T*A*M*I Show. It is B&W and started out with Chuck Berry doing Johnny B. Good and Maybelline!

The live audience is going crazy (reminds me of the Beatles movies) and the kids are dancing on scaffolding and it makes me think of American Bandstand!

I am so tired of all the info-mercials! That is what THIS is, but it is different. It is entertainment for a donation drive. It is good entertainment!

I think that I could spend all day on just the PBS feeds! Yesterday or the day before I watched several hours of America's National Parks. Today it started out with a program on our National Forests!

This is so much better than any pay subscription tv service! Of course, I donate to PBS, so it isn't exactly a freebie, but here I pay because I want them to continue, not because they send me a bill!

Right now, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles have just finished a song and Dean Torrence is chatting about the past with one of the PBS announcers.

If anyone is awake and kicking this morning, you might tune in for a few minutes to check it out. You might catch Marvin Gaye or Leslie Gore (It's My Party / Judy's Turn to Cry)! Or Jan and Dean (Little Ole Lady from Pasedena)! Oh! and how about some Beach Boys! Surfin' USA! Yeah, tell the teacher that we're surfin'
, SURFIN' USA!

It may sound simple to many, but life was REALLY fun and clean back then! When I was a kid (I still am a kid at heart, but I mean when I was a smaller version of myself) I just LOVED the music and I LOVED the way I viewed the world! This show (The T*A*M*I Show) would have been a little before my time of recollection, but the music was all very popular for years to come.

I know that this is sort of a commercial type thing, but at least they allow you to watch several full length songs in a row (not just clips). It puts me in the mood, if you know what I mean.

P.S. Don't forget James Brown! He's Out of Sight!!! M.J. Never, EVER had anything with his moonwalk compared to what James Brown had! Man, that Cat can really MOVE! I have never seen J.B. perform. I must give him credit, he IS the hardest working performer, entertainer! Just as they say! My goodness, they were trying to haul the cat off stage like he was hving a heart attack or something and he kept going back and he kept singing and dancing and he never stopped, and THEN he went into another song! I think he was about to kill everyone else who were just trying to keep up! I would have had a heart attack in the first three seconds! WHOA!

And here come the Rolling Stones! Yeah, I Used to Love Her, too! But, It's All Over Now! :)

It WAS a more innocent time, Radar. It was before we realized that our government could or even WOULD lie to us, the world was larger (or smaller in our perspective) and things only mattered if they effected us, in our world, in our town, and gas was 38.9 per gallon.

If you want a real blast from the past, watch HULU and Adam-12, notice the back-ground as they are driving around, straight out of the 60's.

I didn't catch this program you're referring too here, but I have seen others before and as I surf the channels have come across these pledge drives, and was enthralled.

As usual with many of your posts, thanks for the memories.

I don't remember gas hitting 38¢ a gallon until the 'shortage' in the seventies.

I remember family vacations as a kid and gas was 29¢-31¢ in the late 60's

Phottoman,

You are welcome for the trips down memory lane. I must admit that I sometimes feel a bit silly and sometimes a little embarrassed to present my feelings about the past the way I do. But, I just cannot deny it, I love it all and I know that all of this stuff is great! I like to share it with everyone because I think it is important, not to mention a great deal of FUN!

It's sad what has happened with our country and the world in general. Some may not see anything different but being around 50 years I have seen what the world was and has become now. The world is powered by greed and screw your fellow man at all cost's now. The reason our government is disliked and not trusted now is because they take care of themselves and there insiders only. They don't care about the American citizen anymore. To them were just slaves to support there rich and famous lifestyles.

I too enjoy the way things were. Good old music, tv shows with family values and the like. I hope that some day things will go around full circle and life will be based on good old fashioned family values again which built this country. I fear before that can happen that were in for one heck of a bumpy ride with stuff really hitting the fan before these in power realize what is truly needed to turn things around.

I hope I didn't get too political.

I don't know if I can remember what the gas price was yesterday, but I certainly remember riding in the back of a station wagon without seat belts (along with my sister) and travelling from National Park to Park and especially Mt. Rushmore.

Yeah, these are memories which are good! Very good!

I can remember my dad getting gas when I was a kid for as low as 27 cents per gallon when there were gas wars. (can anyone remember them) His normal price he paid was 29.9. Gas jumped in 1974 when they had the gas shortage which actually was created by those in charge. My brother worked at a gas station back then and asked the tanker driver that delivered the gas to there station about the shortage. He told him that they had the trucks ready to roll with plenty of gas but wouldn't allow them to send them out to the stations. I guess even back then dirty things were happening behind closed doors. Maybe I didn't see it because I was just a kid.

Moving my 1M Channel Master formerly fixed on 123W to 125W was a no-brainer :) ...

Hah. I can remember gas going for 26.9 at Norman Oil, Lisle, IL. And you got a free towel with a fill-up. And the attendant pumped it for you. And washed your windshield. And checked your oil.

My dad still has a collection of dishes that mom got from filling up at Sinclar (One piece at a time).

Remember S&H green stamps?

Ya I forgot about how they used to give you free glasses, plates etc with a fill up. I worked in a gas station as a teen. We had to pump gas, wash windshields, check oil and tires. Now the cashier has it easy, push a few buttons on the console. There being deprived of freezing in the winter, frying in the summer and getting soaked in the rain while putting the gas in a customers car. Seems I've pumped gas all my life and still do it today with self serve ;)

TVPro, you're in your 50's, I'm in my late 60's. I remember a couple of trips my wife and kids and I made in a Datsun p/u with an overhead camper, yeah it was cramped, but we enjoyed it.

We were at the Grand Canyon and realized that we ALWAYS went to the South rim, so on an impulse we decided to drive around to the North Rim and had to go East then North and cross over Lees Landing. We were getting low on gas so I pulled into a station and found the gas was $.49.9 per gallon. I told the guy there that that was "Highway Robbery" and pulled over to a corner of the station near the phone booth and used the gas that was in the two 5 gallon jerry tanks and filled my own tank.

I worked in a gas station at that time, I was the manager because I was a better salesman than any of the other guys, so I KNEW that gas shouldn't have been that expensive (little did I know then). This would have been in the mid 60's so gas at that time was somewhere around .25 per gallon.

The music of the time was ageless. And the cars were better built. TV was free and three channels (seven in Los Angeles). I remember coming home one night and yelling "I'm home" to any one that would listen, and my Mom yelled back "... QUIET, Maverick in on." We walked to school, and candy bars were 4 cents each (today a dollar or more for smaller bars).

Well, those are some of MY memories.

Thank you for saying it like it is. This is no longer a democracy that works for the people.

I do remember a family trip to my uncle homer's home in Mattoon,Il. lots of oil pumps and a gas war with .19$/gal. Also footlong hot dogs.

I know we don't like to get too political on this forum, but sometimes people need to read something to wake them up to what is going on around them. Actually the small percentage of people polled about trusting the US government I saw on the tube the other tells us that people are sick of it.

TV is still free now and the picture quality has improved a lot since the 50s and 60s.

Kids still walk to school now.

I think the cars are built better now.
Now they have antilock brakes, front airbags, side curtain airbags, electronic fuel injection, hybrid cars, even non hybrid cars get approx. 30 MPG. Did the cars in the 50s and 60s get 30 MPG ?

HA! One-up-manship, good points. I was referring more to the "being able to work on our own cars" but forgot to mention that.

The free TV was meant more to the few channels we got, but were happy with AT THAT TIME.

I wish kids walking to school were more in tune with what is happening around them, not walking in the middle of the street and acting as if it were an imposition to GET OFF the street instead of making YOU stop and wait for them.

And our parents were as likely to complain about the same things that I complain about now.

No polio, no mastoid scars, today you don't have to worry about comments you make making you a COMMIE sympathizer, as our parents lived with.

But then, I LIKED IKE even when I was only a 10 year old.

Back then my old VW Beetle got 30 something MPG. But it had poor heat and zero safety. My current day VW is safe, has 180 HP and gets better mileage.

When I was a kid we had only 3 TV channels and played outside in all weather. Today's kids would never do that without their iPOD, internet capable cellphones, Gameboy etc.
