SE Al.
I have 2nd & some 3rd tier programming, Why are we subjected to :::: endless repetition of a small group of movies, bombastic FORE ground mood music, 18 minutes of hourly commercials, etc, etc. ? And why is no body else complaining/
I understand payperview for sports , 1st runs & porn, I do not understand spending $75 for the crap i,m seeing . Also, is there an organizational & procedural chart for the whole realm of sat service? I,d like to know how the whole system works!

And this is Dish Networks problem how?

Dish has no control over the programming the stations air, it will be like that on DIRECTV or cable. :)

Your a noob so :welcome Sorry what the L are you talking about?

I understand perfectly what he's talking about. The American public have decided with their wallets that the crap that's on is, in fact, worth paying for.

I personally would rather see a freeview market such as what they have in Europe but the US broadcasters don't want it that way.

Well while I do agree that the infomercials are a pain most of them are during off peak hours of 3am to 8am as compared to a few years ago when they would start at midnight and run till 11am in some instances. As much as I dislike infomercials they are a necessary evil to have non infomercial programing available during the midnight hours for those of us who work the graveyard shovel. I shudder to imagine a return of broadcast shut down at midnight after the national anthem plays ( are there any broadcast stations that still do this? ) but the upside would be my going back to heavy book reading again.

yes
few in MN I know do shut down at midnite or 1 AM

KEYC CBS Mankato and its Fox subchannel..midnite for subchanel and 1AM for KEYC
KQDS FOX Duluth shuts down around midnite..back on at 6
KSMQ PBS Austin/Albert Lea

Sounds like somebody forgot to take their B vitamin suppliment today. ;)

Scott's right, it's not the carrier, it's the network. You will find all of your problems to ring true regardless of the conduit through whom you pay for your programming. Don't want to pay $75 per month for it? Fine; downgrade your subscription. Otherwise, learn how to use your DVR to pick out the crap for you, and stop watching live TV, which is what I did.

I have been thinking the same thing about HBO & Showtime. The same tired old programming over and over that has been and can be seen on regular channels with a few newbies scattered around in there every so often. If it weren't for a couple original programs they have that are great, those channels are worthless. Which is going to make dumping them, in lieu of the new "fees", easy. This is something I would think DISH would watch to make sure we don't start getting furry with them about repetitive crap on pay for channels. Guess not. Even some of the HD's that are on the Platinum package had advertising that were just promos for the channel only. That has changed and now DISH is even inserting commercials. And DISH has to be the worst "inserter" ever. It is so obvious when they do it. And why are they showing commercials for DISH that are only seen by DISH subs? Great, wave the new promos that I can not have in my face. OR enlighten me of things you think are true, but as subscriber, I know better.

Oh well.

Let's see on OTA there is PBS which is publicly supported, there is networks that are responsible for at least 10 minutes per half hour of commercials.

But in total there is little worthwhile programming on TV. Even TLC and Discovery have degraded their programming to mostly worthless drivel. What is the cure? Talk even more with your wallet TiVo and skip commercials or just don't watch TV.

Would like to pay for a TV Licence to fund a state owned broadcaster (BBC) like I had to do when I lived in England?

Yeah we had a freeview DTV service but there was only a few channels worth watching on it.

Thats one thing I love about the US. No TV Licence if I don't wanna watch it I don't pay for it.

I think the nets gonna play a more important part for watching TV movies. I already stream Netflix. This is better value then HBO etc.

My advice-check out the FTA forums here and consider that type of system and downgrade your Dish Network. I did this a long time ago as well as getting rid of my expensive (outrageous) DVR which was always filled up with unwatched content. There is only so much TV a person can watch anyway-I much prefer the Internet or books or movies. Also if you don't already have an OTA antenna for locals consider one.

What would be the annual license fee in your US freeview model? In the UK, the license is 142.5 pounds sterling ($215.28) per year for color and 48 ($72.51) for B/W.

Would there be restrictions on how much advertising and interstitial content there could be?

lol....that's why I have a DVR. I record what I want to watch, skip ALL the commercials and if I don't like a recorded program I delete it and move on. I haven't had an empty DVR ever. As someone esle mentioned, if you're not watching channels downgrade your package...you'll miss a few things but you'll get used to it and SAVE money.

I asked everyone in the household what channels they liked and which they though should go(don't watch, don't like) everyone said the Premium channels, why? as my 12 year old daughter said "It's over, and over, and over"

We have 2 622s with DVR and external hard drives. We record everything we want to watch. We have not seen a commercial in years. The SYFY channel is a case in point. It tends to have fewer commercials in the first hour and 5 minutes of commercials for each 5 minute of movie in the 2nd hour. It takes less than 2 seconds to hit the commercial advance 10 times to get through the 5 minute commercial. We now watch a 2 hour movie in 1hour 20 minutes on that channel and a 1/2 hour comedy on the networks in less than 18 minutes. A 3 plus hour football game is seen in less than an hour. We live in the central time zone. So in football season we miss the noon game and start at 4pm. We finish the 2 games about the same time. Now with red zone we can watch all the games scoring moments without commercials.

At some point the companies who pay for all these commercials may realize they are not being seen. Then non premium tv might need to move to the premium channel model. Many channels , like the golf channel which failed as a premium channel, might just fail.

I have an idea.

1. Cancel your TV services.
2. Donate your televisions.
3. Find your local library, get a library card.
4. Check out some books.
5. Read.

It's free! and no commercials.

HAHAHA..... My favorite comment of the day. The original poster on here must not know much about how TV works, probably not the best site to post a comment like he did.
