Just curious because I want to cancel my DSL but that will kill of my phone connect too.

Don't wanna get charged $5/month but I wanted better Internet.

I have had mine plugged into the internet only for a year... I got tired of wasting money on a landline that I never used.

Do you not plan on connecting it to the internet?

After you use up your loyalty credits, there is no financial reason to stay plugged into a phone line. Just be aware if you are not connected and have 4+ boxes you will appear on the audit radar.

I wouldn't mind connecting it to the Internet at all. Is that a bypass for the landline charge or something? I have a router less than 4 feet from my DVR and would gladly hook a cat5 to it.

I only have one DVR. And what are loyalty credits? And how do you use them up?

W ethernet no need for ph line

Ther is no reason at all anymore to have the phone line if you have an Ethernet cable hook up. Plus it will allow you to download from Dish On Line. I'm downloading the 1080p version of Star Trek right now plus several free HD video's via the net. It will finish doing this overnight.

Yes please..................... anyone?

I'm loyal an I want credit :(

When they changed prices on Feb 1, the gave existing subs phone line credit for 6 months.

"CREDITS TO YOUR ACCOUNT

You have participated in a long-running promotional offer where you received discounted pricing on your 2-TV receivers by connecting them to a phone line. That promotional offer expired on January 31st. Because you are a valued customer, we have provided receiver credits on your account for six months.
"

So if your phone line was hooked up Feb 1 you should see a credit on your bill until July.

After that I'm not sure what's going to happen.

Where did you find the "Credits to Your Account" promotion. Our $3.00 per month credit went away with the price changes. They said it was tied to the pricing plan they eliminated.

Well it was really a $5.00 per month charge to NOT have your receiver plugged into the phone line. I nevr saw a charge or a corresponding credit for the so called long running promotion. We keep the phone line hooked up for the caller id.

Don't have a phone line but my two 211's was hooked up via Internet broadband a couple of weeks before Feb 1......................does this get me the credit? Do I have to call and play CSR tag to get it?

thanks for your replies

If anyone here is still using an old fashion land line telephone you really are behind the curve and are wasting a lot of money, IF you also pay for a broadband connection to the internet that has at least 1.5 Mbs download and 384kbps upload.

If you have broadband, cancel your local landline telephone service and get a magic jack. The service including unlimited phone calls LD is just $19.95 per year. All major retailers sell them and they are a no-brainer to use. You can connect your house phone line system and all conventional phones to the MJ at the demark box from the phone company. I recommend using an old dedicated computer to run it so you won't be competing CPU cycles on a computer you surf the web with. Everything works with MJ including FAX. I have my FAX machine connected here and it sends and receives just fine. I haven't ever tried caller ID with MJ since I don't have phone lines at my DVR's anymore but I don't see why it wouldn't work because the caller ID screens on my traditional phones all work with MJ. Plus the computer the MJ is on has a log of all calls. In addition, you get voice mail with the service and when someone can't reach you they leave a Voice mail and it is sent as an MP# file attached to your e-mail. This is cool as I get that on my cell phone so when away, MJ pushes the message in audio to my PDA cell phone.

There are many who are afraid of MJ for whatever reason but I've had it for over two years and it has saved me over $4500 in phone costs. If MJ supports your area with phone numbers, (they don't cover everywhere.) You would be a complete fool not to use one. But once again, do it right if you are going to use one. Make sure your broadband is fast, make sure you use it on a dedicated simple computer, and make sure they support your location with a phone number.

One thing you won't get with Magic Jack and that is a white pages telephone directory listing. I used to pay the phone company to keep mine unlisted.

Look on your bill and see if it has a section like I put below. If it is not there, it does not hurt to call Dish and complain about the sudden rate hike you just saw on your bill when they raised the per box fees. Perhaps CSR roulette might be in order to get the credits.

Don't forget that pesky little tracking information that MJ keeps on you..... not good at all....

Google it.... here's one example -

I cancelled my expensive DSL/Landline and got the internet service from my Cable Compnay, is only $26 compared to the $65 I was paying. I even got double the download speed compared to my old DSL. SO I only have my VIP-622 connected to the ethernet port so I can manage my DVR features from my Iphone. Also I'm planning to get a Slingbox.
