Description of Matt Smith's first episode from BBC One Programming
BBC - BBC One Programmes - Doctor Who, Series 5, The Eleventh Hour
The Doctor has regenerated into a brand new man, but danger strikes before he can even recover. With the TARDIS wrecked, and the sonic screwdriver destroyed, the new Doctor has just 20 minutes to save the whole world - and only Amy Pond to help him.

hmm... Sonic Screwdriver destroyed... That could be a good thing. The only thing I ever agreed with John Nathan Turner was that it had become a crutch for the writers, so I wasn't terribly disappointed when it was destroyed the first time.

I was thinking it was a bit selfish of the old Doctor to transform right at the control panel of the tardis, knowing it would wreak havoc. This transformation seemed more violent than past ones. One would think that if you knew it was about to happen you would park the tardis, move outside a short distance and transform.

But then, it wouldn't allow him to rebuild the Tardis, into a multi-story version, with equipment we've never seen!

Wasn't until the new series that the regenerations became "explosive". I think all but 2 of the Doctor's regenerations have taken place inside the Tardis, and if I remember correctly it was explained that the Tardis helps it along. I'm just wondering if all the radiation the Doctor had absorbed was the cause of the damage on the Tardis.

Come to think of it, was the Tardis ever in flight during any of his previous regenerations?

I guess that is true, perhaps they decided to have more action in the tardis and an overhaul was needed. New low budget Dr. Who episodes take place completely in the high tech tardis.

In Caves of Androzani it was. He set the controllers and the Tardis just dematerialized right before he collapsed into Peri's ample bosom. :D

It might have been in the Tenth Planet, but I'm not sure, as I've only seen that part in stills.

Tenth Planet was the second Doctor right? And I forgot about Androzani....must have been distracted by a couple of things when I watched that one. ;)

Yes, it was the first regeneration, from Hartnell to Trougton. The only surviving portion of Part 4 was the regeneration itself. They were in the Tardis, but I'm not sure it he had set it in flight yet.

Yeah, I know what you mean. :D

They never did show the regeneration from Troughton to Pertwee did they? Haven't seen The War Games, but in Pertwee's first scene as The Doctor in Spearhead from Space, the Tardis materializes and he falls out the door still wearing Troughton's outfit. Did the Time Lords force his regeneration as he was travelling to Earth to begin his exile?

Yes, as I remember it. Been a long time.

Nope, he was on a time lord space station.

Just after Jamie and Zoe were sent back to their worlds, the Time Lords passed sentence on him. The sentence was to be exiled on Earth and have a new appearance. They showed him several to choose from, but he couldn't choose, so they said they'd pick for him.

Next thing you know it shows his face being blurred, with other blurred images floating around it. While he protests that they can't do this to him, his face sorta morphs into Pertwee's, but still somewhat blurred. Then the final credits come on.

Since it shows him falling out of the TARDIS already changed in Spearhead from Space, they likely dumped him into the TARDIS after the regeneration and then set the controls for Earth.

I do remember seeing a video clip of that now. I had forgotten what happened.

'Doctor Who' braces for new world

New showrunner, lead actor for long-running sci-fi hit

By SAM THIELMAN

After four seasons airing in the States first on SyFy and then months later on BBC America, venerable sci-fi/fantasy show "Doctor Who" has moved over entirely to the Beeb's tiny U.S. network, where it has become one of the net's top-rated shows.

Just finished watching it, as I forgot I had downloaded it earlier this afternoon. Not a bad start for Mr Smith as the good Doctor. I liked it. Looking forward to the rest of the season.

I snagged it overnight. Forgot it had come on when I went to bed. So before i turned in, I started and had it by this morning. Depending on Easter plans, I might get a chance to watch it this evening.

I'm confused ... I have watched the first 2 minutes of 11'th hour ...

When did the Doctor regenerate? Does it flash back in this episode as to how and when this happened?

... or ... did I miss an episode along the way?

Back around Christmas, New Years. The End Of Time part 1 and 2 he regenerated. No Flashback so you will have to watch those two episodes for the regeneration. I would guess BBC America will show them this week or next before they air the The Eleventh Hour. They were showing the The Waters of Mars last night on BBCA so The End of Time should be next.
