My dad's 6200 all of sudden stopped working.

When powered on there is no signal going out of the RCA cables. Both LED's in the display are lit up, red and green.

The display itself has three letters A upside down, like this: 'A:A:A.' - notice the dots in between. I haven't been able to locate some kind of error code list. I haven't tried the other outputs, like s-video. Could it be that the firmware is corrupted or something? I don't know if it's still under warranty either.

Thanks

I know NOTHING about that receiver, specifically. When you say powered on, are you just powering it on by the remote or the front panel swith, or by a complete down power from a back swith or by pulling the power plug? It sounds like a locked up computer from here, so a hard power down may cure it. Unplug it or turn it off from the back for 10 to 30 seconds then repower it and see if that does the job. If not the real experts will be checking in.
Hope that helps

I would try the power off and back on with the switch on the back. Sometimes that fixes it.

See if other outputs work. Coax out (if there is one...some receivers dont) is usually fail proof

Thanks,

But this is the state it's in when plugged in (powered on, no switch in back). Unit is unresponsive to remote control. Display stays the same on the unit. FYI, I do have a Topfield 4000 receiver, and that works fine, so I know it's not the other equipment.

I will try the other video outputs and post back.

I am not sure you understood what we are trying to say -- or -- maybe you did it and we are not understanding you. --- We picture it as we say it :<). Try unpluging the receiver, count slowly to 30 and plug it back in. Then let us know if that changes anything.

It has failed to work for me only twice (out of over 50 times). I left one box unplugged for about a month and when I had time to do futher testing it worked again. The second STB was (is) bad.

I have found Topfields as you describe - to be un-repairable, the 7 segment display is lit with the top bar missing (like upside down "A"s) - if you find a cure I will most interested.

wescopc described the symptoms perfectly, power cycling it doesn't help, I thought there may have been a way to reset the unit to factory conditions or something like that, or an internal hard reset - without the OSD

Possible Fix

We have had experience with other models of Topfield receivers displaying all 8's in the display when the capacitors in the power supply open up and get leaky. If any of the capacitors are swelled (bulged on top) they definitely are bad. You might have a tech replace all the electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board and see if that fixes it. In most cases that fixes the receiver. If that doesn't do it, I am not aware of a fix, certainly not an economical repair.

RPD Electronics is right, yesterday I had the same problem with my TF6200.
After opening it I saw two capacitors bulged on top (one of 10V and the other of 16V next to each other).
You need to replace those and voilà, my receiver returned to business.
For those capacitors (here in Mexico) I only spent half a dollar and twenty minutes of my time.
Good luck

I have one of these. I want to give it to some Hispanic friends who watch Bethel Television. Glorystar website says it is on 12115. I followed the GS site's directions for move to G19, and instead of 11842, I put in 12115.
The Topfield 6200 works and displays 11842 channels fine. It seems to load 12115 as well, but Bethel is not on the channel list.
Now a couple questions for my friends here:
How can I find the TP that carries Bethel Television?
Is the re-aim recipe on GS website good for this receiver?
Thanks

I've just spent a lot of time researching and found on FTAList that the Bethel information on 12115 is the same there.
The GS move directions don't offer how to do a blind scan (all 200ish channels), but if I could do that, maybe I could browse through and select Bethel and add to a favorite.
What do you think?

Just google topfield 6200. The first result shows a pdf user manual. You should be able to scan under service search. This would include blind scan or manual transponder scans

Thanks, Catamount. I was able to scan the tp's of choice and eventually (after the 4th. or so scan) found Bethel. The user is happy now. I have the same question for the GS1100c and MicroHD. I'll do another thread for it.
