New FTA service with 20 english channels

I imagine the price difference between a cheap used FTA receiver and theirs that would be required to EPG may be signifigant enough to cause some to not purchase it.

However, if they start off with a signal that is compatable with the many FTA receivers already out there, they might get a following that will upgrade to a new receiver when the signal format changes. Hopefully they will take this route as many will not want to purchase a new receiver for channels unseen that they may not like.

I just like to see them get on the air as well. Another approach for them is to lease out the STB's...maybe even the dishes too. If they are going to 100 channels...a lease of $10 per month is still way less expensive than the pizza dish guys...and no one would have to spend $200 or $300 to buy their box.

They could do installs and lease out the equipment or have others install via independent contractors for a standard installation fee.... While I am no fan of leasing...it might just be a way to get this service in many homes at little cost.

For the rest of us here...we will probably end up buying our own box and doing our own installs anyway. Maybe help the neighbors install theirs as well.

Nice thing about a linux computer running VDR. Stick ATSC and SAT tuners in and do both at the same time with full DVR function. With vdradmin, you can set up timers, search for shows, manage recordings, etc from any computer on the lan or even over then internet.

And as long as they don't encrypt the EPG data, someone will come up with a patch.

Thank you seniors.
I donot need epg too..if their channels work with my any one of 5 old fta receiver, fine.otherwise i willl buy some cheaper HD-MPEG4 receiver ,if it is one time shopping.i have coolsat 5k,sonicview 4k,viewsat 2k extr, pansat 500.fortec ultra.

I can't see them encrypting epg content, no other providers in na do it. Epg content can be extended using private descriptors to add things like age content restrictions, themes, etc. If the ird doesn't understand these descriptors you won't get them. That's most likely what freedbs is referring too. Us Linux guys can add that later :)

Over a month has passed without a "News Release" on their website. Over four months since anything has happened on their "Time Line" entries.

Before I saw that this thread was updated I was just thinking about whether or not there were any updates and that it had been a while.

this " seek and hide " was started around january and were told that it will take from 1 to 6 months.and now it is month 08 ??

mdmm- Where did you come up with 1 to 6 months from January? Please provide a link to this information from freedbs.

The only estimate I've seen is 3 to 12 months from 3/30/2010. See page 59 of this thread, post 581 by Iceberg. Today is less than 4 months since then, with 8 left to go before people can complain that they are "late".

I have also been watching for a new update. I'm curious what progress they've made.

Hey, they only filed actual LLC papers 1 month ago (after somebody here realized they weren't a real company yet) :deal:

Give them a chance! At that rate, it should only take them another 7 months to realize they need to buy a 4 foot broadcast dish! Or is that 6 feet, or ? :what:what :p

Also, we can't forget they need to buy some coax, (hopefully, they won't drill a hole for the cable using a revolver) then get a post hole digger and at least 3 bags of Sakrete. DANG! now it's winter, and we can't dig the hole! Got to wait until spring, SORRY! Then, that will break their bank account, and should only take them another 7 months of saving up lawn-mowing money, to pay for 20 minutes of SAT time.

:sob: Oh yeah, then they will finally ask for donations, maybe a government loan, and then we'll really see what's going on....

Sorry, I just can't believe this is in any way, shape, or form for real. NOBODY that has any sort of clue starts a company like this, unless it's about to pull some sort of scam, and they are fishing the waters, and trying to hook a big one. I could be wrong, but I doubt it.

ROFLMAO! :haha

The thing I find so laughable about this is that there are people who are saying, just wait and see, if it happens it happens, and if it don't it don't, I am one of those, then there are those who find it incumbent upon them to set us all straight, and tell us how dishonest, ruthless, and stupid these guys are to even suggest that they can give away FREE TV, (I remember when all tv was free) my question is what difference does it really make? Is it skin off of your chin if they are lying, or is your manhood at risk? I seam to recall NPS telling us 4Dtv was dead and people on another forum telling those of us who believed it still had life it in that it was old tech, that we where/are stupid for even using it, and that it should have been dead a long time ago, but now it looks like there is still life left in it, and C band subs.
Seams to me like it would be best to just let it happen...or not, as it is now one side or the other is going to end up looking pretty stupid, only time will tell which one that is!

people are throwing a tantrum because they want more free channels and they want them NOW! NOW! NOW! Maybe they could sue for 'emotional investment' or 'hurt feelings' like Sol Rosenburg

Too bad the members of Satellite Guys couldn't start our own freedbs service. We sure have many talented people here, some who are in the broadcast and satellite industry who really knows what it takes to get this thing started....it is just that 'money thing' that might be a bit of a 'problem' ...
