OFFICIAL DISH / FOX ORDEAL DISCUSSION THREAD

Scott or anyone else with connections...

Has there been any recent rumors or talks as to whats going on with fox/msg vs dish...any updates, how long will the dispute last, what are you guys hearing, etc...

Thanks in advance

I don't know how much of a connection you would consider this - but when I was at my sat dealer Tuesday (looking at D*) - he said he had heard rumors that it would be back on the air by this weekend.

I have no idea how credible his info was, so take it for what you will, but this is what he said he had heard.

I have a bridge anyone want to buy it. Call me.

Yeah time for some of you to come over to the Dark Side.. :) On that note looks like Direct might be getting some new customers.. :)

All I say is this Charlie is getting what he deserves. If you want to play you have to pay. Charlie would rather piss off the subscribers and loose them just to save a few nickles. Fox is just another nail in the coffin like Disney for Dish Network. I'm waiting to see how many subscribers he looses over these two issues.

Now I know why he had to screw up c band subscriptions and has to steal away the subscribers from there. He needs to replenish the numbers he looses. Soon enough he will have no more avenues to replenish his customer base. What is he going to do then? Without subscribers you go out of business. I hope his numbers drop so low that he closes his doors just like he has done to so many providers on c band. It would be poetic justice.

C-Band? Please. How many C-Band users are there in the US.. A few thousand?
Can we talk about pertintent technology please..
Look, Fox wants to raise it's rates by 50%.. SO let's say Charlie caves. Ok, then the next programmer comes along and wants 50% more. And the next and the next.
Where does it end?
The issue here to be tackled is balance. The programmers need to raise revenue. The providers need to control costs to their subscribers.
At the end of the day both are going to cuth their own throats because the American consumer will slam shut their wallets.

I can understand why Dish is standing their ground on the FOX rate increases. However, there has to be some give and take with both sides. How long has the dispute been between Dish and ABC (ABC Family HD, ESPN Classic HD, etc.)? Will that dispute ever be settled? Have both FOX and ABC had the same rate increases with cable and Direct TV? Some questions I would like to know.

These discussions are the best proof yet that all sports needs to be in it's own separate packages and High Definition needs to be in it's own separate packages. Then prices can be raised accordingly while leaving the standard definition core packages at the bottom as a base rate to be increased as costs increase on them separately.;)

I've monitored this forum for over 8 years and subscribed to Dish based on what I've read here and all i can say is I'll miss you guys. I had to reregister because ive never posted and forgot my info. I've had all of Charlie I can stand. I watch business news, politics and local sports. ,Eight years ago Fox news was on a higher tier then the other politics/news,, Fox Business is on a higher tier then CNBC. Being on a higher tier reduces Fox's ad revenue and I have to pay more money to watch. This isn't the case with other providers. Charlie has been screwing with Fox for years and i suspect they are tired of his antics. I suspect if Charlie would agree to carry FB on all the tiers that CNBC is on it would go a long way toward resolving the issue. , I realize many of you are strong Dish supporters and anti-Fox but my alma matter is playing their conference opener Saturday and to see it I had to invite myself to a friends house that has Direct TV. When I called to order Direct TV the gal told me they have had to add additional phone lines because of the increased volume and she apologized for being slow because she normally worked in another department but they were so swamped they were switching everyone they could to customer service. Over two years I'll save about $600, get more channels and some buttons and bells I don't now have. In two years the pricing will be about the same, except i can go to a lower tier to get what I want and ill save money over Charlie's pricing. But the kicker is as of today Charlie doesnt even offer what i want and there is the chance that in a month he'll be dropping a major network. ,Frankly it infuriates me that Dish is giving credits and discounts to those that take the time to complain--how do you know the next caller won't get a better deal. This is just ignorant. I'm not sure I will like Direct's DVR but at least it wasn't pirated from another company. Actually as I plunk this out on my phone I realize Charlie's operation is pretty sleazy. Ok I feel better now. Oh and I'm doing this on your iPhone app-- pretty slick.

Well you do what you gotta do, it's incredibly short sided to think this crap isnt going to continue with all providers though.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm a Dish customer, who luckly didn't loose my RSNs (NESN & CSN-New England). I love FX, but I found sites that legally stream FX original programming. FX's own site is one. The minor inconvience is that I have to wait to next week to see this week's shows. As for the network. FOX is a free-to-air network, thus, getting an OTA antenna and pointing it in the right direction, and plugging it into your HD reciever, will allow you to watch the network after the November 1 threat date from FOX. In the end this will blow over, and something else will pop up. As for RSN loosers, sorry, I would be singing a different tune if I lost my RSNs, so I can't blame you.

Seriously, does anyone know if they're even negotiating right now? Are they trying to work out a deal? Or have both sides stepped back from the table to work on their PR campaign against the other side? Maybe no one knows and it's all done behind closed doors, but it would be nice to know if they are at least working on a deal.

I appreciate the rumor, but does anyone know any hard news right now about the latest developments?

If there were negotiations going on, then there would be less ranting on websites, TV ads, etc.

Since that does not seem to have backed down, I assume that negotiations are on Hiatus.

I am sure things will pick up at the end of the month.

Dish and fox are in talks. Fox is trying to bully dish into accepting their rate increase. I do expect that a new contract with fox for all of their offerings will be in place by the middle of November.

Less advertising in a down economy and networks not wanting to make less money means they want the viewers to make up the difference. For those that want Charlie to fold and pay Fox what they are asking, how much extra are you willing to pay every month so FX and your RSN's can be turned on right now?
