DISH Network Price Change

I still think that America's Top 250 (which will be $69.99/mo.) and Choice Ultimate (which will be $70.99/mo.) is a better comparison as both have the Encores and TMC (The Movie Channels). There are some differences between the two. For example, Dish has Epix 3 in America's Top 250 while DirecTV has Sundance in Choice Ultimate.

You know what I am not the one who compared 250 to choice xtra.

It's already been pointed out his numbers are wrong.

KAB

Only number that was wrong there was What he put down for Choice Xtra.

He was combining the 7 dollar DVR and 3 dollar whole home fees. for the 10 I just broke it down differently to show each fee as a separate line item .

If I am correct, all the Starz channels are SD only. I and many here only watch HD so for our $5 a month we will get ------ lighter in the pocketbook. So, no Disney HD, no RSN's 24/7 HD. It seems "E's" bang for the buck advantage is quite diminished. Good thing I and many can't stand "D" no matter what.

Ugh to those Florida taxes (although I am not from there). I feel sorry for them. I do not see the Select package on DirecTV's site. Could you please provide what channels are available? I found a list I believe on a forum. I do believe this is not the package that requires an international package. I know some DirecTV subs, and I know that some of them would like to go down on their package. However, they are finding it difficult to give up some channels. Could you provide me with a link or list of channels that DirecTV offers in the Select package.

Are these the channels included (thanks to xmetalx from dbs talk []Channel list for current SELECT package? - DBSTalk.Com as I just did a Google search):

Can any DirecTV customer sub to this package?
I also thought that Choice Xtra or above was needed for the free HD...

1. that is not the right select package. that is the old select package that now known as Select Classic and is 39.99
2. I dont have a list of the New Select Package which is 44.99 but includes on to those channels food network history and quite a few others. So the dbs talk list it out of date .

3. Anyone can get Select or Select Classic New customer signing up for service can get 15 dollars off Select 44.99 price simliar to the dish AT120 deal.

Dont as k me why it not there they have decided not th advertise it .

Also trust me the florida taxes are just silly no mater who your with as satellite a fixed 13.17% Cable is 9.17 + local tax range from 5 to 6.5 %

Also I pay out the nose for property tax, so to the troll bait who said dont feel sorry for them we pay way more taxes then people in NYC proper and they get it with a tone of taxes from Federal / State/ city taxes. Florida is once of the more expensive places to live because even if your retired or renting your still spend a ton on tax.

But I only used FL as an example as they are the highest tax rate on programing and it not something either company can cicrumvent.

Only 2 are SD (Cinema & Black), the rest are HD (East, West, Comedy, Edge, Kids & Fam). Bang for buck not diminished much since everyone else raised prices too.

He also had one too many receiver fees. It should have been $12 total, not $18

Well, I am pretty upset for two reasons:

1. Dish Network probably knew about this increase when I signed up 30 days ago, but they didn't tell me. Now, after being a customer for less than a month, I'm being told to pay 12.5% more for the Top 120 package. Legal? Maybe. Ethical? Heck no.
2. Even though Dish Network knows they are raising the price now, they are still selling packages to new customers today claiming the old price is the price that customer will pay even though they will see an increase on Feb 1. And they will keep selling packages using that old price point until January 30... never telling those customers that there will be a price increase until after they have signed a contract. Again -- is that legal? Possibly (but I doubt it). Ethical? Definitely not.

Given I've been a customer less than 30 days, I spoke with Executive Relations this morning about this issue but they would not assist me in any way. They simply stated they have the right to raise the price to whatever they want and I have to pay it for 2 years unless I want to cancel with an ETF.

So, I've submitted a complaint to both my AG and the BBB alleging that Dish Network should NOT be able to quote me one price and then raise it by 12.5% less than 30 days later. I don't care what the contract says -- this is a SUBSTANTIAL change that I believe voids my contract with them on legal grounds that they are making a substantial change to the agreement that I am negatively impacted by given that I only signed the contract 30 days ago. The resolution I am seeking is for Dish to either (a) honor the price I committed to paying or (b) for Dish to remove my contract requirement so I can cancel without an ETF if I choose to do so in the future.

Of course, that doesn't solve the problem of Dish being unethical. But it will solve my problem of having to pay $5 more than I agreed to.

Every contract states that Dish may change prices at any time without further notice.

Looks like you've been through this before, so it seems that you should have known that Dish always has a price increase every February 1:

Dish's contract can say anything it wants to, and you can sign that contract, but that contract isn't necessarily a LEGAL contract. IE -- I could create a contract that says you have to rob a bank every day. But that contract can't be legally enforced.

I'm claiming that Dish Network's contract is not legal. That the statement "we can raise our price whenever we want and you are still stuck in your contract" is not legally enforceable because I believe California law states that you have the right to cancel a service if a change is made that is of negative consequence to you.

A good example of this is cell phone contracts in California. Cell phone companies used to do the same "we can raise our price" thing until they were sued by the State of California. Now, they have to let you out of a contract with no ETF if they raise their price because they were sued by the AG.

So now, current Verizon contracts read: “IF THE CHANGES HAVE A MATERIAL ADVERSE EFFECT ON YOU, HOWEVER, YOU CAN END THE AFFECTED SERVICE, WITHOUT ANY EARLY TERMINATION FEE, JUST BY CALLING US WITHIN 60 DAYS AFTER WE SEND NOTICE OF THE CHANGE.”

And current Sprint contracts read: "If a change we make to the Agreement is material and has a material adverse effect on Services under your Term Commitment, you may terminate each line of Service materially affected without incurring an Early Termination Fee only if you: (a) call us within 30 days after the effective date of the change; and (b) specifically advise us that you wish to cancel Services because of a material change to the Agreement that we have made.”

So I personally believe that, if this type of case were heard in court, California justices would state that Dish Network's contracts are not valid and that California mandates that you have the right to cancel your contract without an ETF if there is a price increase.

ps... do I know Dish generally raises prices in Feb? Yes. But I also know that, in doing so, that I believe they are acting illegally IF you are in a contract.

I wish my family's medical insurance had only gone up 3% this year!

Ain't that the truth, but they said costs would go down and coverage would improve with a National Health Care Plan.....

Also, maybe this thread should be retitled "Dish and Directv Price Increase", I'm a Dish Absolute sub and don't really give a flip
about what Directs prices are, if I wanna know I'll look them up, last time I looked I don't get charged any more or any less based
on what Direct, Comcast, Time Warner, etc, are charging their subs.

I hope someone sues E and wins, before the fee jacking, but after it was announced E continued to sell the old fees to new subs and failed to disclose the announced increase.

Such actions give sat tv a bad name

Their is a law in California that if a change happens that adversely affects the consumer he has thirty days to cancel with no penalty fees, that is why dish is now disclosing it's price increase.
