OMG they think they can mess w/ MicroSoft. They should have listened to "Bad Leroy Brown" before doing this. "you don't pull on Superman's cape". Taking on MS & ATT is gonna be painful. They just think that E* has lawyers just wait now.

I would feel better about this "justice" if the MS patents weren't so obvious. These are even more trivial than Tivo patents. :(

I cannot believe that the concept of selecting something in a guide to bring up information or optional recording of it had not been thought of before these patents. It is just again the patent office living in a bubble.

Don't forget TiVo also sued Verizon (FiOS) at the same time it filed against AT&T. So, will TiVO's extremely burdensome legal expenses ever end? Only if they get a favorable ruling regarding Dish/Echostar.

And, yes, the En banc ruling due around March, I think.

Here's hoping that the court either rules in E* favor or has them continue the case longer. So that it continues to drain Tivo's very weak resources. I sure would like to see them wind up having to sell out to someone else.

Picking a fight with Microsoft and AT&T is a particularly dumb thing to do. I hope they get their ass handed to them on a silver platter with a side of fries.

Yep like I said at the start of the thread you don't pull on superman's cape. I really feel that they have bite off way more than they can chew.

The difference here between MS and Dish is that MS and TiVo will probably reach a cross licensing agreement on the patents.

Wouldn't bet on that. MS has started out by suing. When MS has done this before it is due to them being really PO'd and the company has usually done everything to hurt the other side in their property rights. MS doesn't take kindly to anyone step on what they feel is there business. MS has the upper hand & they will enforce that. When MS goes after someone they don't usually stop till the blood has been drawn. MS has been know to sue companies for having 10k per illegal copy of XP for 50 PC's. They don't take kindly to loss of "intellectual property". You must not know much about the MS anti-piracy department. MS is not a company to mess with. Tivo has taken on Godzilla here.

Ditto. Microsoft has alot in the pipeline with it's MediaRoom interface (which already powers some cable STB's). That same interface is supposed to come to the Xbox to power it's upcoming IPTV initiative, all while being compatible with Media Center content.

One has to realize that Microsoft probably has the most software based technology patents in the world.

Absolutely I added more to my statement while you were typing. This will only end badly for Tivo. They have gone after the wrong company. No one fights dirtier than MS. They have put companies out of business for less than this.

But at the end of that song "Poor LeRoy looked like a jigsaw puzzle with a couple of pieces gone" and "You don't mess around with Slim"

Gotta watch your analogy or you'll find yourself rooting for TIVO :D

I know about the end of the song. They are Superman on this one. Just cause the song ended that way I didn't quote the end of the song did I.
