Dear Dish: Please add AJE

The "troubles" in Egypt

Posted in the Directv thread as well, but if anyone wants to discuss the politics of this, feel free to join us.

As for Al Jazeera, I have been watching it and following the story on their website. I have enjoyed their coverage.

The current clash was shown on Al Jazeera nearly an 45 minutes before CNN noticed and an hour before Fox noticed. As the tear gas or whatever that white cloud of smoke was this morning, Fox was happy-talking about Malaluga's hair and CNN was interviewing some one about the US health care bill.

Okay, I called Reach Media, aka Dish Network's distributor of Arabic Programming, they are saying that Reach Media might carry Al Jazeera in English, but in the future, but to read Dish Network's official statement regarding this channel, is Alan Colmes would put it, "disgusting".

Sadly, I don't believe Reach Media, unless a spokesperson here, can come here and give a statement, but I don't know if they are going to come out, and give a statement here.

As for some saying, get it on the 97w satellite, there might be some situations that this might not be possible (i.e. the person live in an apartment, condo, or townhouse), and I fall into this category.

As for internet options, there might be some situations that this might not be possible, as well, however, I don't fall into this category.

As you can see, the American owned pay cable/satellite/IPTV companies are be NAZI's (sorry if I have to put it that way) when it comes to alternate news.

OK, Aeris. First of all, let's drop the word "Nazi", at least until DishNetwork is proven responsible for beginning a World War and kills more than six million of a particular group of people, OK? Using that word in regard to what channels are carried by a television provider, IMHO, diminishes the terror that happened in Europe during the war. I know you didn't mean it that way, but I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

That aside, you're right. NONE of the U.S. television providers will carry decent international news that's available to most of their customers because of the fear, yes FEAR, of being called "un-American", of the bad publicity that would come when Fox or another news source with similar credentials jumps on them.

I just tried to purchase Euronews, Eurochannel and France24 in English, but Dish would not sell them to me if I also wanted an America's Top package! Amazing! I was going to have to set up a second account just for international programming. The local dealer I was working through was amazed as well. I will never forget him saying..."you mean this man wants to send us $60 a month for US programming and we won't take it?".

He lost a sale and Dish lost a customer.

97W....here I come. Is someone here an expert in Glorystar? I'd love to talk to you. Please PM me.

You should be able to add the French tv 5 monde package to an AT package. I have the German package and Latino max. Before that, I had Americas top 250 with the German pack. You will need a dish 500plus or 1000plus pointed at 118.7, though.

Huh?? I have top250, and can order online or by Chat (I asked last night) Eurochannel EuroNews and FRANCE 24 as part of the basic international pack, or can order EuroNews A la carte for $3..... Doesn't Dish carry more international programming than anyone else?

But only if you are looking at 61.5 or 118.7. That's the only place EuroNews is....

And I can only see my locals if I have a particular sat also..... Such is the way of satellite in many cases.....I feel the post was extremely misleading if that is the reason he could not get them.
The posts above went pretty far in making Dish look like they won't give those channels.....and I am holding back on the horrendous "Nazi" reference by the poster.....

Mods >> Apologies in advance if this is not allowed. But I am enjoying Al Jazeera English programming on LinkTv quite a bit and I thought it was worth it to spread the word.

If you, like me, is enjoying the excellent Al Jazeera English coverage of events in Egypt, please do help LinkTv:

I have been enjoying linktv as well, they should be commended, when they have not been showing AJE I have been switching to MHZ-Worldview on directv 2183 and also Free Speech TV 9415 on dish, both of which are running with exapnded hours of AJE whenever they can fit them into their schedule. So both providers have missed a great oppurtunity here to capitalise on the thirst for real news from AJE and BBC world. I also have motorized dish on 97 west so I could just as easily tune the direct feed of AJE, but is just easier through my dish or directv DVRs to switch back and forth and have a live buffers on the channels. I also recognize how dish realizes BBC Arabic is a very timely free preview which makes me think English language BBC world is denyed carriage by force of the big three.

....., when they have not been showing AJE I have been switching to MHZ-Worldview on directv 2183 and also Free Speech TV 9415 on dish, .....
We are fortunate here to get MHZ-Worldview as a subchannel on the local PBS station. In order to pick it up I had to put up a rather simple (I actually made it) antenna and connected it to the antenna input on my 622. To Dish's credit, this over the air channel is received perfectly by the 622, the schedule shows up in the program guide, and the DVR works perfectly with it. This is where I normally catch AJE, but since linkTV has expanded coverage I've been watching it there.

Still it would be nice to see AJE on Dish as a 200 numbered channel along with the rest of the "news" channels.

hi..found this thread through some googling. I'm a DISH Network customer and would absolutely pay for Al Jazeera English in a heartbeat.

I'd also really like to see CBC or TSN available, as well as some Finnish-language channels. I'm Finnish-Canadian living in the US and would really enjoy getting to watch the CBC, or some programming in my native language...or Finnish hockey, like Sm Liiga.

I know it's a stretch but if anyone has any advice, I'll take it.

Let me concur with this thread - I want Al Jazeera English on a main Dish Network satellite. I can already access via Roku Newscaster, but I pay for Dish Network to bring me channels I want - and I want this one. E-mailed Dish already, but they move very slowly.

i could care less about that channel but thats my opinion :) i want more national had and rsns in hd 24/7 and mlb network in hd and disney channels and espn news back in hd :) that will be soon in charlies world:D;):)

With everything happening in Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, and now Libya, I would like to see some better, International news coverage from the region. And that would be on Al Jazeera English. I have been catching the extended AJE coverage on Link TV & FSTV and I have been very impressed with their professional reporting. This channel is nothing like the Anti-American propaganda that it was previously made out to be. If you have ever watched BBC News, it is very similar. In fact, if it weren't for their logo at the bottom of the screen, you would think it was the BBC. They also had great coverage of Japan during the past week...in depth stories rather than the out-of-breath "personalities" on CNN, who speak in run-on sentences, punctuating every word with an air of panic and desperation. It really gets me nervous watching them! And then of course there is the obligatory smirky shift over to Hollywood to get the latest on Charlie Sheen. The major US News cable Networks (MSNBC, CNN, & FOX) have become a blurry mix of Entertainment, Opinion/Commentary, flashy graphics/sounds, commercial breaks every few minutes, and very little "straight" news. (AJE & BBC each only have a short break once during each half-hour.)

If you have not seen AJE, check them out on Link or FSTV...it airs 3 or 4 times per day and FSTV is preempting most of their programming this weekend to cover events in Libya. This is a good article from yesterday on how AJE is trying to get picked up in the US:

Both Aljazeera & BBC World News channel have been requested + someone ask about NHK just after the earthquake/tsunami. It would be rally nice for all of those to be added.
