Welcome Pack

I see several potential problems with the 222k.

1) It uses an extra-cost plug-in module for OTA tuners. (A 222 has a single built-in OTA tuner usable on TV1 only IIRC.)

2) It's TV2 output is still SD like your 322. It will, however, put out a better SD picture when tuned to an HD channel.

3) It cannot be converted to a DVR like the 411/211/211k can.

So basically I'm suggesting you also consider a pair of 211's. The 2nd 211 will cost you an extra $7/mo.

thx but Trying to avoid all monthly fees other than primary. anything similar to this:

* Dish Network Satellite Receiver High Def - DISH811 - eBay (item 350428923565 end time Mar-07-11 07:39:24 PST)

that's duo?? only need OTA HD

be warned of this
"No remote control or card is included"

now while the original card was built in (on the motherboard) you would need a new card at the tune of $50. If you are looking for one make sure it has a purple card.

Also the 811 in my opinion is not the best thing out there. I had one and it has been known to freeze up if you sit on an OTA channel too long. It loses the satellite info. If you want something like that, get a 211. Much more options with it especially with adding a hard drive if you wanted

thx, I'll avoid the 811 then. i would def. get the 211 if it had dual tuners.

In general ,can I use my purple card if I retire my 322??

In the mean time something discont. like the 811 (OTA HD), but not as buggy would be great!

I would recommend the 222k if you do not care for dvr. I purchased a new one from a retailer on ebay for $90 including shipping. I also was able to score a new OTA module for $25. It makes a nice one HD tv setup and one SD tv.

VIP211K cannot have a UHF remote, it is IR only. VIP Duo receivers can change TV1 to a UHF, and the VIP612 has UHF, basically if it has a UHF port on back and is a VIP receiver, it can be done!

thx.

I might buy an IR repeater for the 211 then. I have coax running thru my house (using that with the 322 now) so I could use coax out TV2 + component TV1. right?

To run TV2 as a mirror TV, yes you can install that way and it will work!! Good Luck!

Hang on... a 211k is single tuner.... I think you mean 222 which cannot be a dvr...
You can watch the same channel on both sets, but not dual tuner.....
edited to add... I just re-read... mirror yes. There is no 'TV2' out though... coax and component.

I am not sure, is the "purple card" is the smart card? I looked in the slot on the front & there is no card inserted. I called Dish to ask & they told me that most likley the smart card is installed in it. ??

Yes, the purple card is the latest generation of smart card. Necessary if not already embedded.

is there a way to add a uhf remote to the 211k or any other dish receiver
OF course. You want the "Dish Network ES123804 UHF to IR Upgrade Kit" which comes with a UHF remote and IR blaster for doing just that.

Newer 211k's will have the purple card embedded. Older 211k's or 211 non-k's were IIRC manufactured with embedded yellow cards, so they would need a physical add-on purple card before they could be activated on your account.

Is the Welcome Pack only available for retaining or existing customers. I just got off the phone with DISH to become a new customer and was told directly there is no package below $24.99. I currently just have netflix and barly watch that so I dont want to have to pay alot when I would really only be watching a few channels.

If I remember correctly, the welcome pack was originally marketed to c-band customers to entice them to switch to dish, so you may want to mention that when you speak again to a CSR. I seriously doubt the welcome pack would qualify for free install and equipment incentives, though.

The Welcome Pack is not available to new customers. All new customers under a commitment are required to have AT120, DishMEXICO, DishAMERICA or an International core programming.

I got a question. I thought I read on these forums a while ago that you can only go to the Welcome Pack once. In other words, you can go to the Welcome Pack but if you then in the future sometime go back to like AT120, you couldn't go back to the Welcome Pack again. Is that true?
