Tonights Twins / Yankees Game Blocked??

Game over, Twins win, Dish subs lose. Oh well, given the choices I'll take this one. It is however, one of the few situations that could cause me to reconsider my satellite provider.

Mlb.tv does block the twins in mn (same as all markets).

I would have directv if it were not for a huge willow tree in my back yard that blocks the satellite. Dish is just enough to the SW. Lucky me I guess...

Did anyone else notice Charter is not on the list of providers that carry these games?

Mediacom is also not on the list. A guy on another site called them and they said they refused to pay the premium Fox was demanding for the extra games. More Fox greed.

nope. Sounds like Fox wants a few extra cents to carry 34 extra games this year and Cheap Charlie said "nope."

correct. All 150 televised games are on FSN. 8 are on Big Fox GOTW and 4 right now are not televised

Are you telling me that they are dropping 34 games this year? You have go to be kidding me. I thought this thing was all resolved. What a bunch of as......

It's not that I don't agree with you guys, because I do, 100%. Charlie should have bit the bullet and payed for this. But the other side of the coin is, it seems like signing a contract that you will carry a RSN, then after signing, you are told, wait, we picked up some more programming and you have to pay for it to show it. Is that going to be the new way the networks operate too? Sign a contact, but wait, it does not include the Emmy Awards? Or ESPN, wait, we just got the final round of the XXXX golf open, and you have to pay for it?

Once again, I think the real villain is the RSN. And it is interesting that the contract even allows for this to happen. Does the contract specify how many games will be shown? I don't know of course. In the end, Dish should have paid, but somewhere this does have to stop. I am not going to fully blame Dish for the greed of the RSN.

So far i've not seen anyone else not showing last nights game,So who is the real Villain?
Charlie is in the TV business, and has been since what the early 80's.
Your going to tell me he dosn't know the in's and out's of programmers interworkings.

No , I'll tell you what it is.

Charlie buys these RSN's and then flashes all over town, mail, internet, and on his dumb Charlie chats.
Claiming he carrys 30 HD RSN's and then doesn't pay for anything to be shown on them.

Thats Bate!

Just wanted to throw out there that DISH isn't the only one that didn't show last night's game. Charter's twitter feed is full of responses to people complaining about them blacking out the game too. Everyone around here is always ready to jump on the DISH-hate bandwagon when really you should be angry at FSN for wanting to charge carriers and ultimately US more for money for content they randomly decide is a "non-priority." Really how is that determined? I mean to a diehard fan, I assume all games are a priority. I'm sorry, but it's times like these that I like that I'm not a baseball or football fan because the bs blackout rules would drive me up the wall. This is why the FTC or FCC needs to step in because this kind of thing is the definition of anti-consumer. The more people you can get to watch your game, whither they are at home or in the stands, the better.

So far, Mediacom Cable One, and Charter did not carry it either. so, not the only one. Until some of you come the realization that the RSN's have to be a package by themselves, this will continue. I am betting all your complaints about Dish will sometime soon be against other providers as they can not afford to raise prices for everyone to pay for the RSN's. And in the end, am I going to end up paying because games in Minn, far far from my DMA that were free now are not?

I am very curious, had you paid something like $10 a month for your RSN package, (Just a guess if the only the RSN DMA paid) then were told you now have to pay another $2 a month to get the "extra" games that were previously free, just how loud the screaming would be. I can not imagine Direct or any other provider are going to keep paying like this. At one time Dish was the only one to have disputes. That has already changed. Because some of you don't read the posts before posting, I will repeat. Dish should have paid this time to avoid this. But in the long run this can not continue unless you don't care how much your bill ends up to be, not just with Dish, with any provider.

Why can't Lifetime and OWN be in a seperate package. Every TV viewer has channels they never watch. A la carte isn't going to happen.

As far as the RSN goes, the existing contract specifies how many games will be shown. The NFL Network this problem when it carried games, and so did NBC/Universal, I think, for one of the recent Olympics on one of the smaller channels like MSNBC and CNBC.

If you are comparing Lifetime and OWN with the RSN's, apples and oranges. That's like comparing them to HBO. HBO happened as an A La Carte. RSN's, like HBO are a specialty, not general programming. And I believe their actual cost, if only those who actually were allowed to watch them in their own DMA would be like the cost of HBO.

Again, I do not know if the contract specifies how many games the RSN and Dish agreed to. Do you have inside information, or just guessing?

read some of my posts. Its only a smattering of games

Use to be FSN North carried most of the games. WFTC 29 in Minneapolis had 25 games (usually Sundays) for a few years. The games were produced by FSN and shown on 29 locally and simulcasted on FSN North outside of the Minneapolis DMA.

This year the Twins went cable only and FSN picked up those 25 games and added 9 more games that normally wouldnt be televised (usually matinees). So I guess they are asking for a few pennies more. Its the same case that we've seen with St Louis Blues games on FSN Widwest and Dallas Stars games on FSN SW. Games that were carried on OTA TV move to the cable outlet and they ask for a couple more pennies and Dish says no (as usual)

I dont know about you but 34 Twins games versus seeing reruns of poker stars during that time is well worth the supposed "extra money" that I pay Directv :)

The thing is they WERENT free. Unless you lived in Minneapolis or the surrounding Twin Cities area those games that normally were carried OTA were on FSN North.
There actually is 2 different "streams" of FSN North...one for the Mpls area and one for everyone else. When those games were on 29 if a Dish sub in Mpls tuned to 436 it was blacked out. Directv actually fixed the guide so it showed the "alternate" programming and the 29 games were on an alternate channel.

So fans in Mankato, Rochester, Duluth, and the Dakotas would just tune to FSN and see the Twins regardless of where it was in Minneapolis

I had seen earlier in the posts they were formally MY29 games. I thought My29 was free, thus why I posted that...

My29 is free here in Minneapolis but the games were produced by FSN North and shown on FSN North outside of the Minneapolis area
