Dear Friends... (A Note about the Sling Adapter Promotion)

You need to wait...

And again I would wait until the 19th as on the 18th, their servers, website and CSR's are going to be all screwed up... it happenes EVERYTIME they start a new promo.

I'm converted, too.

Might as well wait until after the 21st, just in case. That whole Rapture thing, you know. ;)

Scott, it's not you.
They told you one thing and then they back-pedaled and told you something else.
That's not any fault of yours.
Both of these satellite companies always seem to give the new customers the world, and screw the existing ones that have been paying the bills all along so they'd HAVE a satellite company at all. -Let the churn begin.
-On a side note-
MattG and Tony, have been very helpful to me with different things lately. I'm still happy with Dish, but they -AND DirecTV- need to start treating ALL their paying customers as if they have equal value.

I could not agree more.
Matt, and I am sure Tony as well, have been a God send to these boards. Very helpful in every regard and super fast response times. :)

Meh.

I want an adapter, and free would be nice, but this potential offer doesn't even apply to me anyways because Dish would force me to "upgrade" to Top 200 with locals (I'm currently on AT120 without locals).

I have no interest in increasing my bill by $20/month to "save" $99--a savings that would be lost after just five months and then will start to cost me $20/month thereafter. I'll probably just buy the adapter sometime down the line. If it worked on the 360 I'd gladly pay the $99 right now.

DISH has the best price still, but man, there are times I really, really hate them. They've had me as a customer for 16 years yet they don't seem to care.

Oh well. As always, thanks for the update Scott.

No one would FORCE you to do anything...

And just because their program has conditions you take that to mean they dont appreciate your business? For 16 years that have provided you with exactly what they promised and you have been satisfied with it.

And if you want Sling that works with the 360, get the ProHD.

I don't fault your premise that it would not be worth the $99 savings to upgrade to a package you do not want. Your math is wrong only in that the price difference of 120 without locals to 200 is $15.

But now look at my side of it as far as not offering it to below top 200. I would argue every once in awhile as a top 250 subscriber, spending much more than you, I should get something more if they are going to hand out things. I don't get free previews generally because I get all the channels. Also, I lose a channel anytime one is no longer offered. So I agree with Dish, a little more of reward to those who spend more. Also, I have been a subscriber since not too long after they first started. I also think they just rewarded most of us with the Starz promo. (Or substitute)

I'm paying $39.99, not $44.99, for AT 120. I'm grandfathered into their non locals package. If I change my package I lose the ability to go without locals, thus my bill would increase $20 if I upgraded to 200. That's what I meant when I said force. I don't need to pay for locals through dish. I get considerably more than what they offer OTA, with perfect signal, and use my 722 to record.

u don't have a very big picture on your phone..the bandwidth required is no problem for 3G

It works decently enough assuming you have sufficient upload bandwidth at your home. The 3g part of the equation wont be a problem. I use it often.

I use to use Sling on my phone BEFORE there was 3G service. Even ran fine then. :)

Guys, Sling works as Scott said with less than 3G just fine. I have been using it on my smartphone for years, before there even was 3G here in Ct.

Thanks everybody! I don't mind the small screen (4.3"). It's just to pass some time! BTW, does the sling adapter have access to the EHD?

The way its sounding now any DISH customer who calls in and meets the requirements will be able to get the deal, however the deal will not be advertised.

Of course (as we have seen) all this is subject to change... but it IS what I am hearing today.

This is exactly what I meant. Thanks Scott. The requirements are what has been posted here already. I don't know them. (I can't get one anyway.) Its 4 days away so we can just see. But to get it you HAVE to call in :-(

This would be a great thing to give existing customers to get them to keep the service. A nice retention tool. The thing is, this tool is something different than the other ones. If you give a customer free HBO or Starz that will eventually go away. This retention tool is a one time fee that the customer can use for now on. The thing is, this can also be used with cable and Directv can't it?

I agree with you except for the fact that IMO, the Sling adapter is not going to be received with open arms from subs who have only basic needs. Subs like us, members or followers of SatelliteGuys, who are more informative about the Sling technology, this is a cool deal that we can really appreciate. While basic subs value free movie channels more, even if the promo has a limited time on it.
