Apple IPAD Owner's Thread

Here's one impression I have: the satguys iPad app is far superior to the Android one... Still trying things out on the ipad.

Funny, in that my initial reaction was the opposite, but it grew on me, and I quickly saw how improved it was. In fact, I'd say almost every app where there is an android alternative, the Apple one is better. I think more energy is put into the iPad ones by the developers, and the android app is somewhat of an after-thought.

I've stuck with tapatalk on both platforms because I use it for more than just this site.

That has been my exact experience with the two platforms as well. The Ipad versions are just more smooth and polished.

Saw an interesting application using ipad last weekend. I was watching an outdoor concert of what I thought was a trio playing piano, violin, cello, and oboe. OK, that was four and I did hear the piano but didn't see one. During the intermission the one playing the oboe introduced the musicians and the pianist was in the audience, with an ipad in hand, multitasking a keyboard and the audio mix. using a piano app connected to a wireless microphone, and an audio mixer networked to the PA system, all on one ipad! Very impressive setup.

That is cool. Doesn't surprise me given the garage band app; I've tempted to get the guitar hookup for it,but realize if I do that my kid will be grabbing my iPad all the time, and that is a no-no. :)

Well, I just wiped my Xoom and plan on returning it in the near future ( thanks Costco 90 day return policy!) the iPad has proven itself superior, although I do have faith that by the end of the year Google will have a more competitive OS with more apps and better hardware standards. Sadly patience is not one of my strong suits so I'm going with the best option today.

And by the end of the year the Apple will have improved the iPad OS, released more apps and will be readying new and improved hardware for release.

One of the things I use my iPad for is controlling my HTPC, in this case the Dell Hybrid. I tried to use a mirroring program, like Splashtop. And while it does work well and makes it a bit easier to control, it resizes the picture on my 54" Plasma to the iPad resolution, which means it doesn't keep the plasma at full screen. That isn't so good, imo. But it does make working with the screen easier because you can actually read the iPad screen in the standard windows desktop, which isn't the case from 8' to the plasma.

So I've been using MobileMouse instead. It works flawlessly, but you don't get the windows screen. It allows for remotely controlling the PC/Mac and does give some indication of some things going on with the screen, but doesn't actually show the real screen. For me, that means to make a selection in some menu items, I have to get closer to the plasma to be able to read the screen. While that isn't ideal, in general it isn't such a big deal since I'm usually just watching some video and it only takes a moment to get it started.

The only real irritant in this setup is that the darned Hybrid changes to 800x600 when I switch the AVR away from it and I have to manually reset the resolution to get the full screen. I have tried using my MacBook Air with the big screen, but with the long display port to HDMI cable I'm using I get a great picture but lots of cracks and pops in the audio.

FYI- Just heard on the news that SJ will be hosting the next Apple Press conference, I think next week. Also, they will be announcing new OS update for the ipad. Big question is will it work for us old timers with ipad1?

Presently, I would like to see Flash working and 3D YouTube videos. Other than that I'm satisfied with my ipad1.

I don't see why it wouldn't. That'd be a MAJOR jerk move to make a new OS that doesn't work with a device that is not even 18 months old.
