Mirrored TV No Longer Mirroring After Upgrade

Hey! This is going to sound like a dumb question, I'm sure! We had a regular Dish Network receiver in the bedroom (HD/Single Receiver). The old television in the computer room would get whatever channel the bedroom television was tuned to.

We recently upgraded the HD receiver in the bedroom to a DVR receiver (still a single receiver), but now the mirrored tv gets no picture. Would the upgrade have affected our mirroring?

We tried all the channels on the cheap-o tv, but it only goes up to 69 and there is snow on every channel.

did you check the back of the rcvr? any lines hanging that arent connected?

Thanks, Frank! I just checked the back of the new receiver and don't see anything dangling. We have a Vizio repairman coming out to fix the Vizio that keeps turning itself off and on, so I will ask him if he can check it out. Do you know how they determine what chennel the televisions have to be on? In one room it's 22 and we can't remember this room, but have tried them all!!

Make sure there is a coax from the other room connected to the home distribution output on the back of the dvr. Then check the modulator settings in the menu's of the dvr. I believe it is menu>system setup>installation>modulator setup. This screen is where you can see what channels tv1 and tv2 output are set for and see if they are set for cable or air. Once you know this go to the remote tv and scan for either cable or air channels depending on what you have set on the modulator screen.

what model receiver is it?

You keep mentioning single receiver but different models require different channel configuration

Sorry I missed that they said a dvr (still single receiver) so perhaps a 612 in which case I don't know the menus from memory and they are probably different from the dual output dvr's.

So the 2nd TV would normally be on 3 or 4 (assuming they used coax). Now if they upgraded to a DVR it could be a 612 (as you mentioned) or it could be a dual tuner unit (622/722). We can only go with assumptions until the OP lets us know what model # it is

Yep model number would help. I get paid to make assumptions when working claims and it gets ingrained in my thinking.

If they did have a 211 and it was outputting on 3 or 4, then if they swapped it for a dual tuner (622, 722, 722k series) the modulator starts at channel 21 for over the air and I think it actually comes defaulted to cable output for the home distribution output. Dish just replaced my dad's 722 after lightning zapped the drive last week and it was defaulted to cable out of the box when I went into the menu's to set things to what they had before. The 612 I can't remember if it outputs on 3 or 4 or if it is like the x22 series hd dvr's than can be set to several different channels.

I am going to ASSUME its a 612 simply based on the fact he said single tuner. In which case...the HDTV should be hooked up via either HDMI or Comp cables. HDMIs come with the rcvr and is most likely the installed method.

From there, as iceberg mentioned, it would most likely be a coax out to that mirrored TV. Not sure why he woldnt hook it back up for you. Look on the TV out slot on the back of the rcvr and if there is a line coming out of that...and not going to the MAIN tv, then its most likely going to that mirrored tv. The mirrored tv would then be set to ch3 or 4.

Question...you said your vizio is smoked. By some crazy chance did that beast come from Walmart?

The 612 would be the only HD DVR receiver we have. The 612 has a coax, RCA, component, and HDMI port available to connect to your TV. To feed the mirrored TV, more than likely the coax port was used which means the mirrored TV should be on either channel 3 or 4. Sometimes unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds and plugging it back in will sync the receiver with the TV (if the TV is on the correct channel). Please let me know if you have any more issues.

Sorry, I got stressed last night and went to bed. The paperwork says it is a 722k/612 receiver. There are two cords coming out of the back and I think they both say "satellite in" and there is a silver box they both go through. I am sorry to sound like a girl (I am), and am at work so cannot look at anything closely now. We tried every channel from 2 - 69 and nothing works. ANother tv that is working fine and mirrored off of another receiver is set to channel 22. We put THAT tv in the computer room and it didn't work and tried channels 2 - 69 on that one, too.

Yes, the Vizio was from Wal-Mart and we thought we were getting a steal with a 55" LED for $900 on clearance, but it has been a headache. We were at Sam's and someone was returning the same tv because of the same problem. He said they wanted to come out and put a new "board" in it, but he was tired of fighting with it. I guess we are getting a new board when the Vizio tech comes...

The 722k is a dual receiver and the 612 is a solo receiver. I would be happy to assist you with the setup but it depends on the type receiver you actually have and which is working this TV. If you can look at the receiver when you return home, you can find the model number on the bottom left corner on the front of the receiver (VIP 722k or VIP 612). Have you tried unplugging the receiver for 10 seconds to reboot the receiver? Please let me know if you are still having problems. Thanks.

The 722k is a dual receiver and the 612 is a solo receiver.

So as not to seed confusion, the 722K is a dual TV receiver, the 612 is a solo TV receiver. They BOTH have two SAT tuners.

The 722 would have a ch22 output for the second TV that is in the other room the 612 has to be the new DVR. The 612 uses either Ch 3 or 4 so you onlu have 2 possible channels to get a signal on. If you only have 2 coaxial cables connected to the back coming from a silver connector (a separator), your problem is no connection to the mirrored TV. On the back of the 612 just to the right of the 2 satellite connections there should be a 3rd coax connected that is about bottom center of the receiver. This TV out should be connected to your mirrored TV.

If it is a dual tuner, the OP should check the modulator set up. Menu, Set Up, Installation, Modulator. Make sure Tuner 2 is set to air and select any channel and then check the remote tv.
