Any news if Dish hopes to EVER add this channel one day? There was a lot of talk about it a couple of months ago, but now I hear nothing. I've been hearing nothing for years. To be honest, I don't think Dish or Directv will ever add this channel.

Dish in my opinion does not want BBC World News because BBC America airs their main news program. And they may already have enough in news programing.Just like Dish not wanting FUSE or any other music channel because of enough music programing.

not anymore..

I still want BBC World news HD would be my preference. The evening news on BBC America has been gone at least 2 months if not longer to PBS in 30 min form. Only problem is 2 PBS stations I can get run it late and sometimes not at all. Put in more request Zach.

request for me also. Like I said I want RT, CNN international, and others. We want breaking news. World events are happening more and more and we want to stay informed. For the most part most of us are very tired of reruns of talk on the "news" channels. Also put in another request for weathernation tv. I would like that channel on dish network. thank you

I was reading the Guinness Book of World Records, and the channel with the biggest distribution in the world is CNN International...and yet Dish Network STILL doesn't have it? This and BBC World News would be welcome additions.

1. Agree that Dish doesn't really want it as Charlie probably feels that CNN and Fox News fill the news need. He hates to spend more money. However, should Charlie ever dare drop CNN or Fox News (temporarily, or course), he will most certainly put up BBC World News to fill the gap, just as he has done regarding other channel drops.

2.PBS does NOT offer ANY of the BBC World News programming. Select BBC World News newscasts and BBC World News America (Mon-Fri 7PM Eastern), now exclusively on public TV per agreement, is secured by KCET, Los Angeles, and offered via American Public Television. APT provides probably the majority of the MOST popular programming (much of it UK entertainment dramas and comedy series) to Public TV stations that seem to really drive the fundraisers. I don't believe there is any contractual obligation to air the select BBC World News programming at specific times. In Los Angeles it is aired LIVE from BBC World News, while other stations choose to delay the airing by half-hour or an hour or longer. Complain to your local public TV station of the delayed air times are not to your liking. Complaining to PBS gets you nowhere as they have absolutely NOTHING to do with BBC World News programming. PBS has withered to be little more than The NewsHour and Travis Smiley. The rest of the programming can be seen elsewhere on cable and sat channels and even PBS no longer has access to much of the UK science and nature shows as they are now ONLY aired on Science, Discovery, Animal Planet, etc.

3.There is hope in getting BBC World News: The only way I ever see BBC World News 24/7 on Dish is if Discovery Networks (the distributor of BBC America) leverages the other highly popular channels it owns by requiring Dish or DirecTV to take BBC World News if they want Discovery or other top channels. Verizon FiOS (not sure about AT&T Uverse) carries BBC World News because they had no choice by coming to the MVPD game LATE and Discovery leveraged the other key channels Verizon needed, and Verizon (along with Uverse) pay among the highest rates for channels as they have no critical mass. Verizon's recent price increases are a reflection of that although they still heavily subsidize it. This is one reason some annalists push the notion of Verizon or AT&T buying Dish or DirectTV as a possiblility for the Telcos. All the other MVPD's have sufficient critical mass to negotiate better rates.

5. I think by BBC World News stating that BBC World News America is "exclusively on public television" means that only BBC World News itself is the only other carrier of the program as it is part of the BBC World News Service.

Yes, put my vote in once again for BBC World News 24/7. However, I would love it if Dish offered everyone MegaHertz TV to everyone (if he ever dropped CNN or Fox, then I think we would get the channel for all) as they air several foreign newscasts throughout the day, and it is great.

I'll put my vote in for it and wish they'd add it. However, I've been asking and voting for it for years and Dish has done nothing. Why do I think they'll do anything this time? I don't.

Are they allowed to have it? Time Warner may not allow it to be distributed on US systems for fear of even lesser ratings on CNN.

Who does carry CNNI? The only one I could find via Google is Comcast. Direct did, but dropped it several years ago.

Dish sees no reason to pay for another channel when they feel they provide sufficient news services with CNN and FOX News.

However, I feel your pain and would love BBC World News 24/7. Our only chance is when Discovery Networks re-negotiates the rights to its highly popular channels, and I am almost certain they will try to force BBC World News on Dish, and others when those contracts are set to expire. The key will be HOW MUCH MONEY Discovery will want for BBC World News. If it is too much, then Charlie may drop--temporarily--Discover Networks channels or Discovery Networks backs-down from its demand, but if the price is not too bad, Charlie may go ahead and accept the channel as part of the requirements for key Discovery Networks channels. Let's hope Discovery Networks isn't too greedy and Charlie isn't too cheap.

I don't know why you think after all these years you are almost certain BBC will all of sudden become a condition of carriage for other channels. I would say the exact opposite, little to no chance of it happening that way. You talk about CNN and FOX but that has virtually nothing to with carrying BBC. If anything it's because they already carry EuroNews 24/7, Al Jezeera several times a day, and TVJapan news several times a day, all in English.
They may well carry BBC at some time, or may not, but I don't think it will be for any of those reasons.

CNN International is available on several smaller cable systems within the United States and nationwide on Verizon Fios along with UVerse in my area. To me, it should be included without having to play hardball on CNN's part.
