New shows coming to Me-TV

Been seeing the promos, meant to write them all down but I am lazy when it comes to taking notes.
Sept 26 The Rifleman on weekday evenings, 5pm Central, and I just saw a clip from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea-just said coming in October , didn't even name the show. ~They didn't have to name it-who doesn't remember the Flying Sub ? lol

They're getting some new shows and some shows previously on RTV. I'm looking forward to Star Trek TOS which will be on Saturday nights at 9PM.

we're suppose to be getting MetV soon in Minneapolis. In fact they have a dummy channel set up
RF45-3 (maps to 5-90) but right now its the same as 5-2 which shows reruns of news and a couple other local shows

We finally got MeTV in Corpus Christi! I really like it a lot. And now we know where a lot of the
RTV shows went. Sadly I think they are just nailing the door shut on RTV. MeTV is way more professional in all ways than RTV.

Looks as if the mission was really impossible, as Mission Impossible is listed as one of the new shows, but does not show up in the schedule. Must be more tweeking of the schedule to be done, after all, I do not remeber the team ever failing a mission.

I wouldn't write off RTV just yet, didn't they kind of pioneer the re-distribution of old tv shows by satellite? All these others just had more money/contacts, or decided to be dictated to by content providers. Just read a really long thread on the dishnetwork side here, about the DRM and HDCP crap that HBO is implementing, or about to implement. This stuff is really spooky, you pay for programming, then they tell you how, and for how long you may record any of it. As long as RTV and these other channels exist, I will be watching them.

Just read a really long thread on the dishnetwork side here, about the DRM and HDCP crap that HBO is implementing, or about to implement. This stuff is really spooky, you pay for programming, then they tell you how, and for how long you may record any of it. As long as RTV and these other channels exist, I will be watching them.

And that's one of the reasons I don't want pizza TV. When I record something I want to keep that recording for as long as I want, be it 6 months or 40 years. TV shows have a very bad habit of disappearing for many, many years and I don't like that.

One of my favorite shows ever, "Grace Under Fire" went off the air in the 90's and hasn't ever come back. It's never been released on DVD and Brett Butler has said it will never go to DVD. It's not available on Amazon, HULU, Netflix or anything else. That's a shame because she's very funny and that was a great show. I have some ancient VHS recordings on 8 hour tapes from the 90's I made but I don't have a VCR any more and I doubt the tapes are any good anymore after all these years. Besides, the recordings looked horrible even back then.

I don't understand why those people have to be such control freaks about everything. They already have all the money in the universe, what else do they want? Our souls and blood?

Well where they stick it to you on pizza tv is, for instance, they have different packages or levels. Level one is the cheapest but you get all the garbage like MTV, USA, etc.. Absolutely nothing of value. So I want to get ALL the women's channels. Well guess what? They spread them across all the levels. You can get a few of them on each level but to get ALL the women's channels you have to subscribe to the highest level, the most expensive package! And it's not like we get that many channels anyway, I would think it's less than a dozen but I haven't checked lately. 500 channels of cr*p for $100+ a month just to get a dozen channels you would watch on occasion. It's not worth it.

And Canadian pizza? I live waaaaaay deep down south Texas way so that's not happening. I don't think they would let me subscribe this far away. Maybe if I lived closer to the border. But even then, is Canadian pizza tv any better or different than US pizza TV?

Personally I just can't justify the expense. The only way there will ever be dish/direct/whatever pizza tv in my house is if a boyfriend moves in and he pays for it. I certainly will not! For now, as long as I have my MeTV and ThisTV I will struggle through...

I guess I got my big dish put up just in time to catch the slack of RTV kinda fading away to the back of the class.

The Canadian system may be changing. We Canadians may no longer have to purchase a basic package to get the channels we want. One of the papers mentioned we should have a statement from the CRTC in the next few weeks, but I have not heard much talk about it. The last talk was over a year ago, when the CRTC stated that after the Canadian digital switchover, the providers would not have any excuses for not offering a pick and pay system where no basic package is required.


Checked my guide, and Grace Under Fire is not showing on TVTropolis. I think it was some time ago, but not recently.

If you were interested in Canadian TV, Anik F1R and Anik F2 where Shaw Direct (StarChoice) broadcast from on Ku can be seen as far south as Mexico.
Shaw will not let you subscribe with a U.S address. What you do is get a "grey market" system, where you have a Canadian address through an address broker. Technically it is not legal according to the CTRC, however the FCC could care less and Shaw could care less because they are getting paid. Lots of Canadians that are "snowbirds" have such set ups.

I have seen Grace in syndication until about 2 years agao. One problem it has is that they produced just short of 100 episodes and many stations shied away from due to that factor, the fact that it was nota monster hit and Ms. Butler had gained the reputation for being dificult which some ownership groups thought would cut into its appeal.


As others have pointed out though it is til on a few cable channel at least sporadically.

Hmmm. Well, it's extremely unlikely that I would ever do such a thing but it's interesting to know about the option..
Bottom line, I just can't afford a $100+ a month TV bill. I would be curious to see what sort of shows they have VS the garbage on US pizza.
I get ads in the mail every week for Dish and Direct and I don't even look at them, they go instantly and directly into the circular file.

As long as there is FTA available I just don't see myself subscribing to pay TV via any source..

Don't throw the old vhs out, if you really want to, you can dub them to a dvd. VHS players, or VCRs can still be found, or stand-alone DVD-VHS machines that will dub from the tape to disk. I have been doing just that for about 5yrs now ( I recorded everything lol since vhs came out ). Some of my old vhs tapes from the mid to late 80s look as good as the day they were recorded. Of course I kept them in the house and not in storage someplace so they had not been subjected to high temperatures or extremes in humidity.
Wore out 2 dvd-recorders already , dubbing what I wanted to keep to dvds, haha. Funny watching those old commercials too.

My folks have one of those VHS to DVD machines. I've thought about getting one for years but never got around to it.
Another machine I looked at is a VCR that plugs into a PC, it converts tapes directly into PC files. I kind of like that idea.
I would like to see a comparison of the quality of what they can do though. I have a few hundred tapes, most of them should just be thrown out, I found a lot of them have white mildew in them from being sealed up so long.

Some tapes though are family stuff, my kids birthdays, Christmases, etc.. Those I can't afford to lose. One big problem though, some of the kid tapes are on Super VHS, S-VHS. All those machines broke and got thrown out about 15+ years ago. I don't know what to do about them..

Some newer VHS machines have a feature called SQPB, or Super VHS Quasi Playback. What this will do is play a Super VHS tape as a normal VHS tape, but without the higher quality available with playback using a real S-VHS deck.

We still have RTV here in Central Arkansas run by the local ABC station and there are many programs I watch on it. We don't have MeTV yet that I know of. I usually watch the RTV programs when there is nothing else worth watching on the other channels. There are times when I am watching the news on my FTA TV while watching local stations on my antenna TV. As much as I am paying for subscription TV I should be watching more of it.
