I just got a 922 today. This may have been discussed before, but I was wondering about the guide on the 922.On the 722 you could make the guides listing of channels smaller and have bigger text.Does anyone know if Dish may be planning to add this in the next firmware? I have heard that the DISHONLINE blockbuster app was coming in November sometime.Thanks..:)

What I meant to say was having only 4 rows of channels showing up compared to the 6 now.The fonts would be bigger like on the 722.

Older folk, like my mom, prefer the 1 1/2 hour grid display and its larger text. When she first stated using the 922, she was upset she could no longer set it to the 1 1/2 hour guide. AT first, she wanted to use her old 722, however, she is getting used to the 922 EPG.

One thing to note about the 922 EPG and vision: the TEXT is actually smaller but with better fonts and in true HD but can still be a bit difficult to read, however, the cover art for the recordings only make up for part of that loss as those tiles could/should be larger. The "NEW" icon, etc. is SO TINY. Also, the text after selecting the cover art for your recordings brings you to another screen with all those shows listed and the text on the thumbnails is small, but if you select the More Info, the writing is large enough.

The Info display is quite sufficient for almost anyone to read.

One thing to take into consideration about the 922 is that it was originally designed with a mouse-pad type of remote with an on-screen cursor where you were to glide to an option, pull a trigger, then glide down, and pull the trigger again . . . However, that remote was pulled and replaced with a more traditional Dish remote, so it is somewhat more cumbersome accessing menu options because you have to arrow right, left, up, down, to access menu options AND you will need to use the color buttons on the remote at times as moving the arrow up to the options bar is NOT always a practical option and pressing Cancel can sometimes take you there, but other times dump you our of the entire menus. We've set our cursor at Invisible to look just like mom's old 722, and she prefers this to the annoying arrow. Navigating around does take getting used to, but it will take some time to get the hang of it so you can navigate efficiently. However, it is pretty intuitive. The lack of a proper 922 User Guide means you will be having to dig to find some features as they are grouped somewhat differently on this box.

There are many good improvements on the 922, especially the way you can pair the remotes, a lot like TiVo, where you don't need the stupid book to look up the codes because the 922 can do all the pairing of your remote to 922, and TV and AV receiver all on its own. VERY NICE. Also, the on-screen prompts and screens seem to guide you with each step far better than any previous UI Dish has ever had. It functions a lot like a series of screens when installing applications on a PC with the first screen asking to pick an option, then NEXT to the next choice, then NEXT and so on (only a few steps on the 922), but my point is that there is almost NO CONFUSION, and almost ANY one can perform a functions with such a guided one step-at-time with prompts approach.

I would suggest that the logo/channel ID area be LARGER in future implementations as it isn't quite large enough for mom, and even I find it a bit of a strain.

Did Dish do away with the channel tiles? It was supposed to be an alternative way of finding channels by alphabetical order without having to know the channel number. That is something mom would love. I can't find that feature anywhere. Please let us know if Dish does NOT have this feature on the current 922

So, far so good on the 922. I haven't and have no plans to use the Sling just yet.I look forward to the XiP 813 product. This EPG and menus and cover art tiles is what will make a lot of people like the Dish product.

On the channel tiles, press the green button on the remote. It will take you right there..I agree on the channel logos they need to be a little bigger. If you look on the guide channel 333 FLIX is really BIG....

I received my free upgrade yesterday.

Is there a way to advance the guide more than three hours at a time? It is annoying to have to press the "forward" button eight times just to jump from Sunday to Monday.

use the skip forward button, not the fast forward button, for a 24 jump. it is the reverse for the 922 than the other VIPs?

you can also put in the number of hours you want to skip then hit the right arrow button to skip that number of hours. it is the reverse for the 922 than the other VIPs?

FF/Rew is a 1-day jump on the 922 (Skip on other receivers). The Skip buttons do a 3-hour jump (next/prev EPG screen). Counter-intuitive as in playback FF/Rew is a slip and skips make a big jump. No idea why they introduced these inconsistencies.

Yes, it's the R/L arrows on all Dish receivers.
