Help..............
How can I see the World series without watching it a day later on MLB? While this problem was tolerated during the playoffs I really need some ideas. While it was nice they finally gave locals here they do not seem to really be for the region. They seem to be from NY. They are listed as follows in the guide.

DISH
WVXF CBS ST THOMAS = 10
WVGN NBC VI = 14
WSJP PR = 17
WPRU ABC PR = 20
WSJX FOX PR = 24

These channels are not coming from PR. At least not as far as I can tell. For the playoffs all Detroit games on Fox I had to watch a day later on MLB. This Fox channel shows no listings for the World Series!
Please... anyone have any ideas? Maybe a D.I.R.T. member has a solution?

Thanks for any help.

The issue isn't with Dish but with MLB and/or Fox. MLB grants the rights to Fox televise the game in the 50 US States ignoring the USVI, Puerto Rico, Guam and the Marshall Islands. Hopefully the guide is wrong and we will get the World Series. In the past it was just the play offs we didn't get. If not pick up Fox using AAD.

It was same when I had Innovative CATV, not play off baseball on Fox.

I apologize that the information I previously gave you may not have been correct. After posting my reply to you I called the Fox TV sation just to see if by any chance they would be televising the World Series and I found out something very interesting. Below is a copy of the message I sent to Zach who is a DIRT representative.

On the Fox channel Dish added as our local Fox Station (WSJX) =Dish Channel 24 we did not received any of the first or second round American League play off games.

I just called WSJX at 1-800-511-5899 and spoke with a Ms Yabrie in the stations administration and programming department. According to her the station did have the rights to distribute the play offs in the US Virgin Islands but not Puerto Rico. She told me that WSJX provided the feed to Dish. She also assured me that the station has the rights for the World Series.

Would you please see if you can get Dish's uplink center to flip the right switches and get us the World Series in the US Virgin Islands.

I would also suggest that we any anyone else in the USVI who subscribes to Dish and wants to watch the Series at home contact Dish and demand that they televise the Series in the USVI.

As for AAD (All American Direct) they are a source for network channels from both the East and West coast. You need to get a waiver for CBS,NBC,ABC. The process takes 30 days. For Fox it was possible when I applied in June 2010 to get access the day you applied. The cost is around $3.75 per channel. With Dish having added a Fox channel I don't know what will happen when you contact them. Their phone number is 1-800-909-9677. Good luck!

The issue is there are actually 2 Fox Networks in the USVI & PR. WSJX 24 is licensed to Puerto Rico and WEON 60 is licensed to USVI. Puerto Rico is considered International so Fox cannot show the games. Same with the playoff games and the game of the week. However the USVI they can show them

These locals are on C-Band and its interesting. The only Fox on there 24/7 is WSJX (PR). Saturdays when there was a MLB game another channel in that mux showed up that did carry the game.

The fact that Dish carries WSJX only means you wont see the games on Fox in the USVI.

Would it be possible for him to see it live if someone offers up their Slingbox info, or would that also be blocked based on IP address? Sorry, I'm not offering, but was just curious if that would work for him. Otherwise, on MLB.com, there's a link to MLB.tv which offers up all the post-season games online for international customers for $20. Of course, at this point you only want the world series, so $20 is a little steep. Maybe they'll offer a cheaper rate in the next few days for customers only wanting to see the World Series? Looking at the fine print at the bottom, US Virgin Islands would be a LIVE blackout, but they'd have the game available about 90 minutes after the live broadcast is done.

if the facts stated in this thread are correct, it is absurd that someone living in the United States cannot watch the World Series. There are many ways to get around it but a viewer in the USVI shouldn't have to resort to a "work around" to watch.

I agree. You would not think that live in the VI that we would be considered a third world country but it happens all the time ... shipping... TV programing.... it's a shame. I am familar with All American Direct I just did not pick up on the AAD short cut. My bad. As for everyone here that feels my pain for having to watch the series a day later on MLB...
THANK YOU. This forum has always been so helpful and I have learned a great deal from all of you and I thank you again. Jimdandyvi I'm with you I think it is time to pick up the phone and scream. A special thank you goes out to you for all your research.

It is even stranger that the games won't be fully available in Puerto Rico. For a few years the Expos played twenty two home games each season in San Juan. Baseball is very big in the Caribbean. According to Wikipedia Puerto Rico has the second most number of active Latin America players after the Dominican Republic.

Puerto Rico has a population of four million.

Last year five players from from the Virgin Islands were drafted by MLB which is bad for a territory with just 105,000 people.

Fox is not showing the games in PR....& TBS is blacked out. Dont know on which channels is the games coming.

It gets worst for sports fans in PR. WAPA2...which was supposed to broadcast live Rugby games in PR.....1st delayed the game start..because they were broadcasting some latin american baseball...which was looking like some 3rd grade league. Then after half time...WAPA2 decided to cut the live Rugby feed with infocommercials for the rest of the coverage. What a joke for sports fans in Puerto Rico. Sent a mail to WAPA but not even a acknowlegment. Same with Fox abt world series.

Someone in MLB wanted to get more money see they put PR as a international market and they sell they rights that's why WAPA brought it!

I have a Slingbox HD in NYC and I send all my programing down from there over my Time Warner wideband. Now I have over 200HD channels including the world series and took my dish down to the basic package till my contract is up

Yup because in PR the rights belong to WAPA and they show it on there subdigital channel WAPA 2

WAPA 2 seriously needs to get it act together. The guide was saying "No Information Available". Not every people can sit in front of TV from 1st minute...& needs to put things on DVR recording to start watching later. WAPA 2 also seems more interesting in showing informercials rather then live sporting events.

What a waste of a channel it really is.

Or you can move your service address to NYC for the duration then switch it back

The situation with baseball is really bizarre! MLB for the purpose of broadcast TV considers the Virgin Islands not USA. For their streaming service they specifically carve out the USVI and Guam and state they are not foreign therefore you can not stream games live to these territories.

Situation isn't all bad particularly when it comes to NFL and college football. If you subscribe to AAD you can have an East Coast Fox, ABC and CBS stations as well as a West Coast network stations. That is in addition to having the same networks from PR.

So far Dish isn't charging us for the local stations so our packages is still $5.00 cheaper than the rest of the USA.

Having west coast Network stations is handy if you want to record shows. In the winter the USVI if five hours ahead of PST so I am in bed most nights when prime time starts in California.

Well my problem is now solved. I went AAD and added both Fox network feeds (east & west coast). Now in the guide I see MLB World Series. Can't wait...
Asfr not being charged for the locals thru Dish I think that I did have to add this to the package for additional $$. They love those fees don't they. I have the everything pak but I still had to call and add the locals when they became available. Althougth they really are not local channels. As far as WAPA they really do need to get thier act together. It seems it does not matter what service they provide here in the USVI it's messed up. The TV stations the power company it does not matter. The federal goverment needs to step in and mandate if we are a foriegn country or not. It would put and end too all these dual standards and practices so many companies have when dealing with the Virgin Islands.
All I have to say is GO TEXAS.....

Until Dish took back AAD the network feeds from Chicago were in HD. I really notice the difference in video quality when I channel surf between a football game on ESPN and another channel's game in SD. Sometimes you almost want to watch a dull game with great pictures vs great game with mediocre SD video.

For movies and other stuff doesn't seem to make as much a difference.
