Can I change channels when recording on tuner 1?

At times, I will have overlapping recording on both tuner 2 and tuner 1, and when the first recording (the one that was on tuner 2) finishes, the second recording (that has been on tuner 1) is still going, and at this point, even though only one program is recording, I can not change channels without stopping the recording and restarting it, while manually placing it on tuner 2. I have always been a cable person, and have only just recently switched to dish.

I have a 722k DVR. Thank you for any assistance.

You can put the receiver in single mode and then use Picture in Picture and then Swap. You will now be viewing the TV2 picture at TV1 and you can change channels at that location. Please let me know if you have any additional questions.

You do not have to use the PIP. The SWAP button will now switch you from tuner 1 to tuner 2 instantly in single mode. I use it all the time when watching two programs at once. I will pause one tuner the swap and play the other using both buffers to skip commercials.

Thanks, I just tried it, and that does seem to work. The only way to do it is in single mode though? There is another tv hooked up in the house, and it is used sometimes, but not terribly often. When I want to view something on this other tv, I will always have to go to the box and change it to dual mode, then put it back into single mode when I'm done with the other tv?

And to be clear, I know that while two programs are recording, my only option is to watch one of those, the problem has come when two programs have been recording, and one finishes, but the one that is still recording is set recording on tuner 1.

spot on vince and yes when back to back recordings and in dual mode if tv1 is still recording your stuck with that or some other recording from the past.

If your issues are with local channels recording and taking up your tuners you can attach a local OTA antenna to your dish 622/722 and record 1 local and 2 sat at the same time
722K you will need an extra module that will let you record 2 local and 2 sat at the same time . Installing the ota module is like putting a VHS in a VCR .

You only need to put it in dual mode if both TVs are in use at the same time, watching different channels. If only one TV is in use at a time, you never have to use dual mode.

I concur with all the above.

When you're in dual mode, you can do the dual->single->swap->dual thing on the fly, thereby "demoting" your recording from TV1 to TV2. (would be nice if they'd give us a remote sequence to push the mode button)

If you find that TV2 is used only occasionally, single mode is a lot more functional and you can just turn on dual mode on those occasions you actually need it.

Wow that is great to know. You learn something new every day on this site. :D I had an inkling that something like this was possible, but there was no way I was ever going to try it out during a live recording.
