Went to watch HBO today see the tv does not support hdcp was fine in the am now will not work.
they should change there slogan from tv everywhere to tv nowhere they have so many technical problems its unbelievable
I will send a email to hbo and see what they say.

I thought they were just doing HDCP for HBO Comedy although I could see it happening with the rest of the channels in the future. Stinks for folks with older HDTVs that don't support it but if all of the providers cave in there isn't a lot that can be done.

It's a combination of your equipment and HBO. I still get "TV everywhere" so it's not Dish.

My equipment? i thought it belongs to dish?
It has to be my problem just like the 3 receiver in two years because my house is to hot
or maybe the audio drop out on HBO and showtime and they couldn't know what there doing could they
or the constant wrong guide. that's tribune right?
or will not stay connect to the broadband that's att its a small company so it has to be their fault.
or the interface that take 30 minutes to find a movie
I changed nothing in the two hours that it worked and stopped.
yet i know it was my fault it had to be
if only every company was as great as dish,

Equipment includes YOUR tv. Now it has been reported, for sometime, that HBO Comedy would start using the hdcp standard. You did not mention if this issue was present with all HBO channels or a specific HBO channel. If you can see HBO Comedy than I'm guessing it isn't your tv.
There is a way to check if your tv os hdcp compliant I just can't remember at the moment and I'm not at home...maybe someone else can help with that

I'm still getting HBOCY via component on my Samsung plasma...and all the others.

HBO has apparently started enforcing HDCP so if you have an HDTV connected by HDMI, it needs to support HDCP. I doubt Dish would do this on their own as it means pissing off customers. HBO is undoubtable forcing the issue. I believe HDCP has been used for some time on pay per view and some on-demand content.

If you are connecting via DVI, you are out of luck as DVI does not normally support HDCP.

As I understand it, any connection other than HDMI/HDCP is supposed to fall back to SD rates. I believe analog component connections are included in this.

There is a bug in the Dish receivers that prevent viewing on SD outputs (NTSC, S-Video and RF) if a device is connected to HDMI but powered down. This situation causes the SD outputs to display the error message. A friend reported this problem a week or two ago on HBO channels but he wasn't specific about which one(s). It's even a problem on TV 2 outputs which should have nothing to do with TV1 HDCP handshake!

You must have your HDMI TV turned on or the HDMI connection unplugged from the TV for the other outputs to produce video. Apparently, HDMI powers enough of the interface in the TV to know it's present but not that the TV is actually off.

I read somewhere that Dish will be releasing a fix for the problem on TV2 outputs. No guarantee it'll work for Solo mode or Solo receivers.

It's only a matter of time before other services start insisting on HDCP. We have two options: replace our non-HDCP TVs or make enough noise that the content providers give up on HDCP. Dish, premium content providers and congress should all hear from anyone being prevented from viewing content they are paying for.

Thank you for this post I now know the problem.
because dish is not capable of offering a mrv systems I have 1 tv on component and the other on HDMI the change was the Sony that i use hdmi on was set to my ps3 by the wife and i lost the hbo on the component set and the tv two set.
so your right bit by the bug its nice to see a helpful post instead of the dish is great spill

I Realize this and I sent a email to them But its still dishes responsibility to deliver a usable signal to my tv that's what i pay them for.

There's not much that Dish can do on that front since they currently don't have any boxes that support multiple HDTVs. They're delivering on their end of the deal by providing a picture to the TV you have hooked up to an HDMI connection but since HBO is forcing them to do an HDCP check for their programming they have no way of supporting the TV you have hooked up via component. You might want to consider getting an extra receiver for that second HDTV that you have hooked up or wait for the XiP series of equipment to be released, whenever that is.

Edit: I should note that I just tried viewing HBOCY on my TV2 that's hooked up via RF while my HDTV that's hooked up via HDMI was turned off and it worked just fine. I'm using a 722k running software version 690 so either the problem has been fixed or it doesn't affect all receivers/TVs.

I got HDMI/SCI on my Samsung LCD. HBO is working fine, however, the TV is only two months old.

But it also is affecting my tv2 signal the vip 722 is it not to designed to feed two tvs?
Still not dish's fault ? I have two 722 for each hdtv but need to share recordings which i pay 3 times what its worth for the second one to feed two tvs .my opinion is they need to fix this and lot of other problems with the equipment they provide.but we all know that will not happen .

I've been watching HBO for the last hour with no problems using a 2.5 year old Samsung connected to HDMI. The only complaint I have (and this only seems to affect HBO) is that the top banner pops up automatically at exactly the time a new show is suppose to start. (i.e. at 9pm exactly, it showed up saying Boardwalk Empire, at 10pm exactly it showed up saying Hung) Not sure if it's because of the HDCP or if it's a bug in the Dish software. Using a 722k running L688 I think but I'll need to double-check that.

I think all the posts were helpful. Not everyones configuration is the same, so it isn't always easy to troubleshoot issues in the forum. Glad your problem is solved

Time to grow up and go get a "modern tv". HDCP was brought up on this forum a good while back and we've known it was coming. NEWSFLASH!!! - the market is flooded with HD Tvs and they have come way down in price.
