HR24, I personally like it, and most of it looks nice, however, when we hit LIST, it takes at least 5 seconds for the list to show.

Other than that, it seems pretty cool.

(She's a hater of new things and things she isn't used to. I'm sure even if it can revert, the new Black one would soon return, but, trying to make her happy).

If I can tell her it can't happen, she can just be unhappy.

Thanks in advance.

That will only give you old GUI for a short while (maybe a week, maybe a couple of months at max) until the new GUI is automatically downloaded to your box)

Exactly; its just a guide. Not what 99.999% of users worry over. Even if they had 20 choices, a percentage would not like it. Use TitanTV or Zap2It as your EPG!!! ARGH! Just watch the quality programming.

I, for the life of me, cannot understand why anyone would hate something that is clearer, has a better image, is a lot faster, and is much easier to navigate. There is nothing about the older blue SD GUI that is superior to the newer HD GUI in anyway. To each his (her in this case) own I guess.

That is similar to those who would rather watch a blurry stretch SD show on their TV instead of an upcoverted better PQ 4:3 pillar-boxed show of the same program on the HD channel. My parents will change a show to the SD channel so they can stretch it if the one on the HD channel is pillar boxed.

Glen,

Did you ask here what it is that she prefers on the older one. Is it just a matter of what she is used to?

And we only see the guid about 1% of the time as well. 99% of the time the only thing displayed is the program being watched

While I mostly like the style change of the new guide, I don't think there was anything wrong with the look of the old one. I like the color scheme of the new gude, but the contrast between the text & background sucks, it's harder for me to read the text as well as being extremely difficult to tell were one program ends & the next begins.

Interesting as the current color/contrast combo on the CE version of the EPG is one of the highest available possibilities. Keep in mind that some of the higher combinations are just down right freaky ugly. There is a science behind this.

Well, the only thing she really hated was the TIME it took for some things to display.

As an intersting point, I sent DirecTv an e-mail per directions on another site regarding enabling WHDVR. As soon as WHDVR service was enabled, the guide issues disappeared. I cannot imagine that the two could ave been related, but, now when we press LIST on the remote the recording list displays instantly.

Now, the wife is happy, and as anyone who is married knows, when the wife is happy, everyone is happy. :)

The old guide works on all of the DVRs outputs, the new one does not.

Actually it's the contrast between the text & background in the recorded programs list, after a program has been watched that is difficult for me to read. Also, it's almost impossible for me to tell were one programming block ends & the new one starts, until it's highlighted.
Those are minor complaints, it just takes awhile to get used to anything new & this was a definately a major change in style!

Yeah it does. I have composite going to my SD CRT and the new guide displays fine on it. It also works with S-Video as well.

On my other DVR I have HDMI going to my TV and Component going to my SlingBox and both work there as well.

What is this WHDVR function that you speak of? :) Curious minds want to know.

Agreed, on the SD tv I have in my gym, an H24 connected via composite, I see the new guide just fine.
