I live in Cincinnati and follow the Wings so I am wondering why the Wings vs the JETS is blacked out for us on Saturday on CI in Cincinnati.
No WINGS game has ever been blacked out before.
The ONLY reason that I buy CI is to get ALL the WINGS games.
Does anyone know who I should call to get this fixed?

How do you know for sure it'll be blacked out?

Well Sandra you aer right I just checked and it is no longer blacked out.
I don't understand but I really don't care I am happy at this point.
Of course what they give they can always take away later, but I don't think they will.

Generally, the NFL schedule will be late coming in some times in the beginning of the year.

College football will not show correctly till it gets closer to the actual date as well.

if the OP has Dish if you hit info it shows the circle with the line through it and if he tried to record it says blacked out
(that is one thing I wish DIrectv would do too)

I have Dish and I found out about the problem when I tried to schedule an auto tune for the game a week ago.

On DirecTV sport packages the only games that are blacked out are the opposing team's telecasts when they're playing a team from your area. In other words when the Florida Panthers played the New York Rangers last night, people in Florida had to watch the Florida telecast and people in New York had to watch the Rangers telecast.

The rest of the country can pick either telecast. Nothing is blacked out.

true. what about if the game is blacked out in your area because it didn't sell out? lets say on the sunday ticket? i ask because i've yet to encounter this kind of problem so i'm really not sure. i'm assuming it would still be blacked out even though you're paying for a premium sports package.

You're right...it is blacked out even if you pay. I guess I never think of that because it's not a factor in New York.

That wasn't the point of the OP, but it is true.

I know how the blackouts work but thanks for the lesson
But "your area" is technically wrong. Its "from whatever team claims your area" especially in baseball where as example places like Iowa where 6 teams claim the area (Twins/Brewers/Royals/Cards/Cubs/Sox) you'll see more blackouts.

games on your local affiliates are blacked out on NFL ST anyways. So even if the game sells out it isnt shown on the NFL ST channel in the market

I know more than one team can claim an area but thanks for the lesson
Our area is claimed, as far as NHL Center Ice is concerned, by the Rangers, Devils and Islanders. When games are on the NHL Network, it seems like the Flyers claim our area too.

Philly claims New Jersey for sports. SO that is why its blacked out on NHL Network. They "force" you to watch it on the local RSN....except neither Dish nor Directv carry CSN Philly so you get shafted twice

Wrong. Philly does not claim New Jersey for sports. Not all of it. Here is what actually happens...

The NHL Center Ice blackout areas are different from the NHL Network blackout areas. Nobody knows why.

For NHL Center Ice, my part of New Jersey is NOT claimed by the Flyers, so I can watch both the Flyers telecast and the other team's telecast. Around here for Center Ice Philly is treated the same as any other out of market team.

For some reason, however, for NHL Network games Philly IS treated as part of our market, so Flyer games are blacked out on NHL Network.

While you are correct that DirecTV does not carry CSN Philly, that doesn't even matter because even if they DID carry it, in this part of Jersey we would not receive it. We are considered the New York DMA.

The good news for us is that the Flyers are on Center Ice 3-4 times a week, and only on NHL Network occasionally...1-2 times a month.

thats right. I was confusing the fact that parts of NJ gets NY & Philly locals so I figured the RSN's worked that way too ;)

Yeah, but you still didn't solve my NHL Network issue. Last Thursday the Flyers played the Penguins on NHL Network. The game was blacked out on the NHL Network AND the Pittsburgh telecast was also blacked out.

It's not about DirecTV not carrying CSN Philly...even if they did, we would not receive it.

Doesn't happen often, but it happened Thursday. I though ya had a fix for me! ;)

Sounds like NHL Network is trying to claim more than they should.

If you're not claimed by the Flyers area you shouldn't have been blacked out on the Pens telecast too. If you were claimed then yes you would be blacked out on NHL Net and the opponents feed as noted above

Actually, I didn't say that correctly. When games are on the NHL Network the telecasts are blacked out on NHL Center Ice anyway, so we should not have had access to the Pittsburgh telecast.

We should have had the game on NHL Network. It's just bad mapping of the blackout area for the NHL Network itself. I've heard Bettman asked this question on call-in shows on NHL Network...apparently this happens elsewhere as well. Never a good answer.

The good news is we have a location in Virgina which we 'move' to (not sure what kind of discussion regarding that is allowed here...but you know what I mean) when we need to take care of this kinda situation.
