Really...how is this fair to other schools - new hires or not wth!?!?

Violate NCAA rules but hire a new coach get all kinds of perks....wow!

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Ohio State sought and received a waiver from the NCAA that allows it to have two football coaching staffs at the same time: One under Luke Fickell to coach the Buckeyes in their upcoming bowl game and another led by incoming coach Urban Meyer that only handles recruiting.
Athletic director Gene Smith called the split staffs "normal in some transitions."
The Buckeyes play Florida in the TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl on Jan. 2. But Meyer and any new staffers are not permitted to coach any players and can only recruit. The NCAA waiver specifies that no more than 10 coaches -- and no more than seven at any one time -- may be involved in recruiting.
There have been rumblings from other schools that the waiver gives Ohio State a competitive advantage.

Who cares? Let the current staff handle the game and finish the season, and the new staff can handle recruiting for next year.

Nothing to see here, much less whine about.

I don't see why thbis would be a problem, very often the Incoming coach will coach in the Bowl game, players he's never met.
They decided to let Fickell coach the Bowl game (right thing to d in my opinion). But they didn't hve to, Meyer could have his staff up and running and coach the Bowl game if it was nessasary.

I'm sure any school that has a retiring head coach and a new hire can get the same exemption just by asking.
It just doesn't usually happen because coaches tend to get fired, or a retiring coaches replacement is still busy with his other team.

Isn't Fickell staying at OSU to work with Meyer? I thought that's what I heard anyway.

Well then, won't that be true next year when they are both on staff??

ANd I didn't see where Meyer was going to be at the bowl game. DId I miss something?
Just an assumption on my part that the coach will want to host some recruits at the game. I could be wrong. If all the NCAA rules are followed, it's probably a non-issue, but the potential for abuse is there.

Ah yes, in that instance I can see potential abuse. But maybe that is allowed(hosting).

They both won't be calling plays though.

I don't agree with it but I'm at no point "crying" over the whole ordeal cause they could bring in 4 coaching staffs, I don't think it would improve the image that is already trashed of OSU in my eyes. They let a bunch of liars play in last years bowl game and shouldn't have - end of story, moving on.

Who lied? There were facts not being told. But no one lied.

what?? really? Pryor didn't promise to return the following year and sit out his required games in order to play in the bowl game? LMAO really you want to ignore that?

Ohh and again I'm not crying about the coaching staff stuff but ya know these guys are big time coaches and are not crying either...raising a good point I say.

Michigan coach Brady Hoke was asked about the coaches waiver on Friday.
"It's different. That would be my reaction. I've never heard of it," he said. "Is that an advantage? Yeah, I think so."
Later Friday, Illinois introduced new coach Tim Beckman, a former assistant at Ohio State. He revealed that Illinois has also requested a coaches waiver to help during the transition.
"I knew that was going on," Beckman said. "I think it's just something that we're gonna try to do right now so that we have that same advantage that they do."
