Dish is in a dispute with two of my local channels and they are not on air currentally. Does this void my contract with them? I woud like to switch to DirecTV for a number of reasons. Dish says it doesnt because they are "free" noe yet hey are willing to give me a discount because I am missing them.

Does anybody know the ins and outs of this and if I can leave dish?

Prices, packaging and programming are subject to change without notice.

You can switch to Directv, but there would be a cancellation fee to pay to Dish. The loss of a few channels in your package does not make the contract void.

Has anyone ever challenged them when it comes down to loosing one of the 4 major networks versus loosing 1 of 400 or so non OTA stations? Especially if, for one reason or another, you can't get that dropped station OTA.

Yes, they have......to no avail. Just sit tight, and eventually it will get resolved.

No provider guarantees programming, that's just a fact. I understand the frustration, but in the type of dispute you are talking about, the channels will most likely be back. If you have or can get a antenna (inside if you are close to the TV transmitters, outside if not) you can still watch those channels for now. If you have the right receiver you can watch them on there so that you can still pause, rewind, record, etc....

I think I read a while back on here where one companies local channels in different markets were not brought back for over a year at least over a dispute?

I lost my local NBC due to a contract dispute. But with the Super Bowl and Olympics both on NBC this coming year I would think that Dish may cave. I would think that die hard sports fans would leave Dish before they missed either of these events.

What Claude said...
Claude did not answer my question, which was simply, has anyone ever challenged them regarding a major network station.
I am just curious if someone has and what the result was.
There is a presumption that they will have to maintain a minimum level of programing and the customers will pay per the contract they signed but the OP is not talking about something like say, replacing CMT with GAC or dropping RFD. Most of us do not watch the majority of the non OTA channels available to us but I believe the opposite would be true when it comes down to the 4 major networks.

every time there is a retrans dispute or a disagreement over something being dropped someone claims they will start a class action suit and that they know an attorney who thinks it would succeed. It never happens.

and I wonder if its the two locals that were brought back yesterday? (Traverse City Michigan locals) because an agreement was reached
