Pending install date - whole house Cat5 ?'s

Hello, having the hr34 and (2)hd receivers installed next week

I have recently wired the whole house with cat5e and RG6

I have one room in the attic where all the new cables come in from where the dish will be placed on the roof. Meaning, the g who wired the house knew where we would have the dish installed and ran 4 cables to this general vicinity.

From there, the cables all run directly to each room where a tv will be used

Can I hook up the system via the cat5 or does it have to go by cable lines?

I'm a total newbie but thinking of what I need to know when discussing the install wth the installer

So that it all goes well.

Also, the CSR's insist that I login and claim the rebates prior to installation. Is this correct and something I should do before the install or so stung I should do after the install gets completed

go ahead and sign up for rebates as long as your order show HMC for the main receiver. Only the hr34 needs cat5 all others will get internet through the rg6 from the bridge that the hr34 creates. You only need 1wire going to the dish and 1 going to each receiver for your setup.

The 34 don't need any. If he hooks up any cat5 or 6 to it it will disable the internal deca and will lose MRV. All you need is a direct run to each location which you have done already and 1 line running to your Internet source for your on demand and such to be hooked up. Make sure where the lines come in to the house is close to the house ground source. That's where the dish will need to be installed.

Do not hook up the Cat5 or Cat6. The receivers will establish a network on the Coax Cable and the DECA will connect all the receivers to your internet.

Did you go through Dishstore and get the $125 rebate for signing up for Directv?

you dont need a deca with the hr34 just hook cat5 to it and it feeds internet to all other receivers via coax. Or if you have deca installed then dont hook up the cat5 on hr34 either way works.

If he hooks up the cat5 to the 34 it will shut off the internal deca therefore no MRV. And no, it don't feed to the other receivers either unless it's connected to a deca system.

I have hr34 and (3)h25 swm8 and have cat5 going to the hr34 only all receivers see internet and mvr works fine. Also the iPad app can also see all h25's so they are connecting to the network somehow?

You may not need it for your DirecTV service, BUT if you have the funds (its not expensive) and the time, you will be best served running CAT6a throughout the home in rooms were it will commonly be accessed for other devices. wifi is not always the best solution for top-quality video and it is faster and far more reliable.

Thanks for the advice. I think i will just let them connect the HR34 directly to the main coax from the dish and separately wire in the cat5 only to the hr34

This would be for purpose of VOD only and then just have the other TV's connected by the new coax.

should be easy for the installer, i hope.

I just discovered a few other discounts available so i might call and cancel my original order and start over with the AAA $200 discount and referral of another DTV customer for $100

So basically, stay out of the installers way and let them hook up the HMC with only the existing coax cable lines and don't worry about the cat5 other than for my home computing needs right?

As a customer of several years, take whatever discounts you can get when you sign up. Once you're locked into your agreement, you're locked in. If you can get $300 in discounts when signing up, go for it!

That's only with the HR24 & H24/25.

I've never installed a 34 but I've been told differently so is there any link or something you can provide me with to check this out? I thought it would disable the deca. Tanks in advance!
