Peyton Manning

A Blogger has taken it upon himself to insert Peyton Manning's face onto every NFL logo. This is just wonderful. Here's a few examples:

DAVE'S ART LOCKER: MANNING FACE

I wonder if Daniel Snyder pulls off the double play and signs Peyton AND drafts RG3... what a coup that would be. AT LEAST RG3 is classy enough to admit OPENLY, without hesitation...

"You can't just say it enough, how much that would mean to a quarterback's career to learn from a great. Aaron Rodgers did it with Brett Favre, Steve Young did it with Joe Montana. All these guys have benefited from it and hopefully I'll be able to do the same."

Don't see this happening, Peyton's already pointed out that if your a top QB, you should start right away, thats where the Luck / Manning issues started.

You must not read the part RG3 stated that it would not bother him at all if Peyton was infront of him.

I think that just because you draft a supposed "franchise QB", that he HAS TO start immediately. That depends on the franchise.

What started the issue was Luck who does not want to sit behind no one because he thinks he is a great QB already. I have always thought he seemed kinda smug and his little facial show when asked about playing behind one of the greatest QBs EVER.....proved it.

At least TRY to pretend you humble...

Yes, I don't know where that started either, that a first round qb has to start right away, other than from Owners that are shelling outg the money ...

Glad to see RG is a humble person.

I never saw Luck as being arrogant, he could be I guess, but let's hope. Not.

I'm sure he'll get his "Welcome to the NFL" moment.

I think it started because of the success of Ryan, Flacco, and others. Used to be. not to long ago, you wanted a QB to learn under a vet. QB for a couple of years. It has changed in the last 5 years I think. It would do Luck very well if he had 2 years to learn from Peyton. But that isn't going to happen it seems.

While the decision-making process regarding Peyton Manning's future in Indianapolis continues to unfold, new details about his problematic neck issues and his attempts to deal with them have surfaced.
SI.com has learned from NFL sources that Manning actually underwent a fourth, unreported, medical procedure in the past two years, not three as has been widely known.
While it cannot be determined exactly when the unreported procedure on Manning's neck took place, it was at some point after his May 23 surgery in Chicago to correct a bulging disk, and before his Sept. 9 one-level cervical neck fusion surgery in Marina Del Rey, Calif. The same doctor who operated on Manning's bulging disk in May did a follow-up procedure last summer in Chicago, as a result of the original surgery. Both of those operations came while the NFL and its players were still engaged in their protracted labor fight, with clubs having very limited medical contact with injured players. At the time of Manning's September neck operation, that surgery was reported to be his third neck procedure in 19 months. In reality, it was his fourth.
In addition, league sources say Manning's neck has potentially developed bone spurs just above the point where his latest fusion surgery took place in early September, and the Colts organization is under the belief that it is nearly inevitable Manning will at some point require further surgery, and possibly another fusion procedure, even if he does successfully return to the field in 2012. It's unclear how any potential long-term neck issues will impact Manning's decision to attempt a resumption of his NFL playing career later this year.

Some successful QB's, like Troy Aikman, were just thrown out there to sink or swim very early. If the guy has "the right stuff", and a decent offensive line, it can work.

I would say it is a mixed bag at best. I will say I think QB's out of college are much more prepared than they used to be. Colleges pass a lot more and run pro style offense much more frequently. But you are right, depends on the QB.

If they have a good O-line and don't have to run for their life or spend most of the game on their back you can see just how good they are.

You have to have a running back. IMO Pittsburgh hasnt been what they could be since Betitis retired. The Colts have receivers. Install a bruising running back first and keep Manning. then bring in a reasonably priced 1st or 2nd rounder with the arm and a brain. You dont need Luck and you dont know what he is. No way would I throw that money away on a QB.

Financial outlay for 1st round picks is borderline irrelevant.

Under the new system, Cam Newton has a 4 year $22m deal.

Under the old system, Sam Bradford signed a 6 year $78m deal.

The 'throwing money away on a QB' is very relevant for the 'Peyton Manning' thread however, with this $28m payment looming.

Especially when you also consider what the Colts paid Manning to recover and rehab last year as well....

Colts are permitted to sign Andrew Luck as soon as Friday.......

In past years, some first overall picks were signed to contracts before the draft actually began. Last year, due to the lockout, that was impossible.

This year, the presence of a rookie wage scale makes it much easier to get these deals done, since there’s no longer much — if anything — to negotiate.

One report says the Chiefs have talked to Condon about Manning. Pioli was appropriately mum on the topic since that would be tampering but didnt take advantage of the opportunity to say there is no interest at all, just that they're talking with Orton about possibly returning.
