I live in Houston, Tx and don't have any service yet as I just bought the place. I really wanted to get 2 hoppers and 2 joeys before the weekend so I took the advice of some of our posters here and called a dish supplied local retailer. Yikes! Talk about not knowing the product and pricing! Telling me it was gonna be 10 dollars per hopper\Joeys are free and the second hopper was only 99$. He didn't even have them in stock yet. I'd like to thank the very informed people here at satelliteGuys for the knowledge to make an informed purchase.

Think I'll just wait until 8AM CST Thursday and take my chances on a Friday install 8(

i would have taken that offer. he's giving you a $100 discount on the second hopper... lol

(kidding of course as the retailer will eventually figure it out)

I find it funny (yet sad) is that MOST retailers do not know anything about the product they are selling. They have no interest in keeping up with whats going on they are just worried about making the next install and getting paid.

If I were in charge of DISH's retailer program I would make SatelliteGuys a required reading once a week.

When you are informed and know your product you can sell more. And thats not a bad thing!

Suddenlink has the same mentality. All they care about are new installs. Their techs know jack squat of their offerings.

As a retailer/installer its not because we are not interested in hopper/joey its dish not supplying the information. We have only received a few emails to date on the product and a sales rep visited once. Otherwise no training no product no firm prices nothing. Ive learned more here than from dish.So like a lot of people patiently waiting for hopper/joey.The way things are going my first hopper/joey install will likely be without any training from dish. Its not that I cant handle it,but its just not right treating the retailers like that.

If I was a retailer I would be pushing the vendor hard to get as much information as I could so that my employees were well informed of the product they are selling.

This is ANOTHER reason I would not want to be first in line. Possibility of a screwed up or frustrating install. I don't want to be someone's practice session.

I'll admit, there are a lot of retailers that no very little of the full offerings Dish has. If the info is not provided to them directly from Dish and have proper training they will not know what's going on. Many do not go out of their way to find out what they can.

I myself prefer to stay ahead of the game. I really enjoy knowing the new products and enjoy selling it more when I understand it. I can understand how some have no idea what's new with Dish since they can be very bad at educating retailers. They do have Retailer Development Forums but some of those are hundreds of miles away. Team Summit is helpful but not everyone can afford to take the time off of work or pay for the expenses. The best thing for a retailer in my mind is to work with a distributor with Dish. They can be very helpful passing news along.

As for some retailers not having product in stock yet, the Hopper just came available last Thursday. I got mine Friday because I went to my distributor and picked it up. Most retailers will just be getting their inventory now. Then they need to set it up and get familiarized with it. It's not as simple as most here seem to think it is.

Indeed. And this is also ANOTHER reason I want to do it myself!

+1.

I stopped by my local dealer yesterday hoping to get an early install tentatively scheduled...they didn't give me much confidence talking to them. I knew way more then they did about availability and install particulars (thanks to sat guys...) ;)

It would be really great if we could work with DIRT on some sort of self install program for forum members....

Aww man! I love Spotted Cow. New Glarus makes fantastic beer. The beer deal is inticing but that's a little too far for me. Thanks for the offer.;)

No it's not. Time and materials, actual travel time, mileage, per diem, local permits, ....... It could be one expensive install! ;)

I leave outside of Houston, give me the tel # and I will cut them a check or give a credit card #. That was a good deal. They can learn later about how to price. !!!

My wife isn't much of a beer or wi e drinker but I've loved every New Glarus beer I've had. I almost went to their brewery last year but I wasn't open when I was passing by.

Is retailer web (that has hopper training) not available to retailers? Am I missing something. If I am please let me know, I like to be informed.

The portal is available to all retailers but not all use it. If retailers really want to learn it they can find the info. Not all have the time though. Dish is a little slow on getting the info out too. I knew more about the Hopper before dish released any info to us.
