Nimiq 82

I am curious if anyone has feedback, and if a larger dish (I am considering the ChannelMaster 84E) would resolve this issue.

I am in the New York Metro area. I have a Dish500 with a DPP LNB. Nimiq 91 has strong signal ranging from 80 to 100. However, I have weak signal on Nimiq 82, due to their footprint. Most of 82's transponders range from 45-50 in signal strength in the day time. Transponders 1, 5 and 9 have 0 signal in the day. During the overnight hours, usually after midnight, the signal on 82 goes slightly up, ranging from 50-64 and the 0 transponders from the daytime suddenly have signals of roughly 55. Would installing a ChannelMaster 84E dish to replace the Dish500 dish increase the signal? With 91 having the same footprint as 82 come fall, I want to make sure I'm ready to continue receiving signal.

since you are kinda on the fringe the larger the dish the better it should be.
Remember that a Dish500 you actually are compensating both sats as they are 4.5 degrees off dead centre. Since we dont know exactly what the footprint for 91 will be like (we've seen estimates but no hard facts like on 82) I'd put up a 84e for 82W only right now.
On the Dish 500 what type of LNB is it? Are there switches involved? If the D500 has 2 separate LNB's you could use that for 91 right now and the bigger dish for 82

Thanks Iceberg! I have a DPP LNB, with a separator before the receiver. I have to find a good spot to install the 84E, I can't mount it on the side of the house where the Dish500 is now. I played with it today in the backyard on an old pole I had for DTV, but there were trees in the way. (It wouldn't see 91 & 82 at the sametime) but when I found 82 on it's own, signal was in the mid 60s, so when I find a better spot without foliage to put up the pole I am hoping it'll be better. My goal is to have a revised setup in place so when they do launch the new bird, I won't have to worry too much as long as the info we have now seems to lead to a similar footprint as 82. I also thought about changing the setup to two separate dishes if needed.

I hooked up the dish, 84E, on a pole in a different location in my yard that has a clear LOS to 82/91. My question is, how should I set the skew/elevation? With the Dish500 on the side of the house, the settings now are 115 skew & elevation at 50. A dish pointing website shows that I should be setting the dish to 41.5 elevation and 100.1 skew. Should I use the existing values off the Dish500 to find the signals? So far, I can only lock on to 91 successfully, so I think there is a difference in what I should be setting the dish to when compared to the Dish500. I will play around with it on Tuesday, but was curious what other opinions there are on best finding both sats on the single dish.

I'm in Brooklyn and have been trying to get a signal from 82 with no success so far. I have a 76cm Winegard dish and a DPP dual LNB. I found 91 with no problem, and get signal strength between 82% (TP6) and 100% (several TPs). I spent a couple of hours today on the roof with a compass and my cell phone on video chat back to the TV so I could see the signal strength bar. Nothing for 82 at all.
Seeing as you have some signal even with a Dish500 dish, I'm still holding out hope that there is an issue with the receiver (Bell 6131) not knowing how to select the right LNB. I've tried several things like doing a check switch with no LNB connected so the receiver thinks it has a "dumb" LNB (91 works fine from either the 110 or 119 LNB depending on dish aim) and allowing a check switch with the DPP connected (it gets properly detected, but only 91 works).

Happy to chat with you if you have any ideas about my setup. I have wide-open clear sky looking south, so it's not terrestrial obstacles.

I do Bell installs in Toronto.
When trying to get 82W, use Transponder 15 or 16.
If you are using a non-HD receiver, only these two TP's work.

I see you have a 6131.

When trying to find 82W, use TP30.

It reads 100% in Toronto.

When trying to find 82W, use TP30.
