922 Price decrease for upgrades

A little apples and oranges mixing here. $100 is the lease price for a Hopper and $599 is the price to buy a 922. Someone quoted $0 for an upgrade for a 922.

The only way I could see the $0 922 being more desirable would be in a household with only 1 (or even no) HDTV.

I sent a PM to Mary last week about this but haven't seen her around (Is she OK?, vacation or what)...
Anyways... is there any other DIRT member that I can send this and will be here around?

If DISH could make the their WIFi adaptor work on the 211k they could have another whole house HDDVR solution with the VIP922/wMT2.;)

Dish doesn't seem too confident in WiFi performance and they don't seem to be betting on people having Ethernet throughout their house... Sure would have been neat if the ViPs could function like the U-verse receivers can over Ethernet/WiFi...

If we're seeing stories of Joeys installed using Slinglinks, I'm pretty sure they're not bent against Wi-fi.

Well we'll see. For one thing they'll need to release an 802.11n AP that will be on the separate Hopper network. Most people are doing well to have 802.11g much less 802.11n. I don't think that people will want their wireless networks saturated with Hopper/Joey data.

Yea the 922 with the 211ks as mirror receivers would solve the extra tuners problem(211k has it's own SAT tuner) and OTA problem(211k has it's own OTA tuner).;)

If that was a possibility with my VIP922/wMT2 and 2 211ks I could have a possibility of choosing between 4 SAT Tuners and 4 OTA Tuners.;):D

Yah right, like Dish is going to spend the time and money to have their older equipment do things that their newest baby (H/J) can't.

Well since the 211k already has the HDDVR software it can download when a EHD is connected, all DISH would need is to enable the 211k to work with the DISH USB wireless adaptor, then it could connect to the 922 via Sling.Does not seem it would take very much time or money to create the software for that.:)

Well as mentioned, it was taken off the Dish website quite some time ago, hasn't returned. No update to use Blockbuster. I'd say let it die it's slow death....... It was only being allowed for people who had one and needed to replace theirs. This sounds like a change in the policy.

I have no problem with Dish no longer putting in 922 receivers but I'm just passing along the info I received. It's odd they would send out a facts blast with that info if it wasn't true.

Oh no, quite the opposite. I believe you!! lol Sounds like something Dish would do....

It doesn't matter how little time and money it would take Dish to create this software, they won't do it. Offering a WHDVR system using clients w/tuners would be the same as admitting that the H/J type of system is flawed. And who knows, maybe Dish did look into that and found that the 211K isn't capable of streaming?

with that being said how long do you guys think it will be until they release a new and improved hopper with more tuners and improved connection options?

I will wait to upgrade to the H/J set-up for that reason as my 2-722k's and 211k suit my needs well at this time...
