Well, after a few months of paying a $100 sat bill and watching very little I decided that it was time to cut back or cut it off. I just did not seem to be getting my moneys worth.

I looked at keeping Directv, which I am VERY happy with (and have been since 2006) and just dropping down a package, but it seemed to net me very little in the way of savings as an existing customer. I also looked at getting them to give me a discount, which they always have in the past, but even then, the savings pale in comparison to what you can get as a new subscriber.

So, I did some looking. It appears that over a two year period, I can save right at $500. Now I am giving up some tuners versus my D* setup of 3 HRs, but I do not foresee many, if any conflicts, as I personally watch very little tv except sports (mainly football), the wife watches mostly during prime time, which this covers, and our daughter watches recorded content that usually records while nobody is home during the day.

Anyway, they are scheduled to do the install this saturday, they actually wanted to do it today, lol, I guess they are not busy in this area.

I am gonna give it a go and see how it is.

hope it works out for you buddy. gotta do what's best for you. of course you're still welcomed in the directv forums. and you'll get plenty of good help at the Dish forums.

Yeah, I was posting between the two before now, as a former customer of Dish. I am not going anywhere. ;)

Let us know how the install went. thanks
Will do. I do not anticipate any issues as it is pretty much ready to go from the Directv install. Should be disconnect, then reconnect if I am looking at the diagrams right.

We shall see.

I think you will be happy with the move over to dish.

Well Redneck, I hope you are happy over on the other side.

Just be ready for the Dish installer to rip out all your cable and install new. As Dish will not pay him if he leaves any Directv cable in the system. Also it will be a different mount, so be ready for a new pole or new holes in the roof.

I will most likely refuse the install if I can not use the cables that are there, unless they are ran exactly as these are.
Absolutely no reason not to (unless they are not up to spec, and I am certain that they are), as they were installed by the original builder of the home for that reason when built, and they are already fished to multiple locations in every room in the home. I wont have cables run all along the outside of the house, and I know they wont fish new ones for free.

That said, I doubt it will be an issue. The D* installer was THRILLED when he saw that all he had to do was mount the dish, connect the already there cables, and plug it in. I dont imagine that the E* installer will respond any differently.

As to the mount, I am prepared for that. I will take the other one down afterwards and caulk the holes. Not a issue.

NOT true, i switched to dish and the installer was happy to use the cables from Direct. saved him the work. he just installed the Dish and ran the cables to the outside pole where he connected to the existing direct cables to the house. he was happy and so was I.....................

Good luck with your move. I am going the other way in another month when my Dish contract runs out. If Dish would just cut a deal with NY RSN's, I would stick with them. I really have no other problems with them though. Football is my main sport also, and I really enjoyed having the red zone channel with Dish. It was a good deal. I just miss seeing baseball, hockey and B-Ball from my locals.
