The Hopper is a great new product but can be made better. Please contribute features you would like to see added to the Hopper. Please keep the suggestions software related so changes could be rolled out to existing hopper customers.

  • Add "Start Over" button when playback of a show is stopped.
  • On the timer conflict page, show alternate times when the same show can be recorded. The alternate time can be selected instead of skipping the show.
  • After watching a show on an external drive the list switches back to the internal drive. It should keep the current drive selection until it is changed.
  • Support folder use on external drives.
  • Optionally display recordings in a table view so the entire program name can be viewed. Each row would have a thumbnail to the left and the complete program text to the right.
  • Shows saved from PTAT must include the default time extensions for starting and ending.
  • Support alphabetic keys on USB keyboards plugged into the Hopper. This allows easier searching as well as use of apps such as Facebook.

Enable side by side picture toggle with position key like Vip receivers.

In guide top banner, show original air date.

Don't show PIP tuner on Joey's red button screen when PIP is not active.

Software based Mix Channels like what DirecTV has.
It is made up of 8 Live Boxes showing the channel. Using the software you select the channel and it switches to that sound. Click it again and it goes to that channel

News Mix
Sports Mix
Kids Mix
Comedy Mix
TLC/ DIscovery Mix
Movie Mix

The first 3 are live on DirecTV today.

All great suggestions, but this is the one omission that continually annoys me. I like to know while cruising through the guide if it's a new show or a repeat without having to hit the info button.

If I'm not mistaken is says "New" if it's a new show if "New" not listed then it's a old episode.

In addition to storing your timers online Also a list of your recorded shows. In the event of a hard drive failure and subsequent box replacement subscribers could go online and select a number of their previously recorded shows that would be downloaded back to their hard drive when the receiver is not being used.

Put simply, at least all the features of the ViP's. The most pressing among those for me are Manual Timers, DishPass, OTA support, and bug fixes for external HDD.

New ones: +1 for Repeat or New on the guide; option for text display of My Recordings. This would aid when one wants to clean up or organize the list or perform global executions where the tiles just are unnecessary for such functions, then return to tiles display.

Also, all channel logos should be LARGE; option to display fewer lines on guide to aid those who need text to be larger; use the 922 guide colors of white on deep blue because it is easier to read.

It already has what used to be called DishPass. It's now called Seek & Record. Go into Search, type what you want to search for, then select the Seek & Record button. It'll open a dialog that should be intuitive. One caveat though, you can't yet edit Seek & Record timers. A few weeks ago DIRT member MattG indicated that editing them is coming in a future release.

When in the DAILY Schedule listing when you restore or skip an event IT NEEDS TO STAY ON THE DAY YOU ARE MAKING THE CHANGE IN & NOT RETURN TO THE BEGINNING OF THE LIST

I'd like to see more information displayed for the selected program at the top of the screen. Make the logo smaller and perhaps sacrifice a row from the table below to see the original air date and more of the description from the program. As it is I have to press Info on just about any show I have selected.

While scrolling the display is faster than other DVRs the keyboard input still feels laggy especially on the search page. It would be nice if keyboard input could be run on its own thread to be more responsive. (Supporting a real keyboard would reduce this need.)
