L751 on 722K

I going to try something. I had a problem with one of my first receivers it was a JVC digital tape, and it was a real POS! I saw a Charlie Chat where their technical VP Mike Dugan was talking about how great this receiver was. I sent him an email and said "I heard you on Charlie Chat today and you used the Words 'great and JVC' in the same sentence, Surely you JEST! The next day I got a call from him and I told him about all the problems with it, and there were many. He said he would check into it and get back to me. He called back in 3 days and asked me what I wanted. I told him to send me a 5000 receiver (top of the line at that time) and a $350 credit toward programming. He did it! A couple of other time I had problems which he resolved. Now he is CEO of Echostar, but maybe he will be able to help with the sick 722k's. Worth a shot, got nothing to lose.

Please report back here, if you hear from Mr. Dugan.

Just want to add my 722k to the list. I have never had freeze/reboot issues until this past Monday the 9th. The last three days my receiver has frozen and rebooted. All three times we had just turned it on in the morning and had pressed the guide button. It is fine the rest of the day/night. I am on 752 and do not have ota module. Seems to me a software problem.

I called Dish advanced technical support today, just to needle them about this failure. They offered the usual, replace receiver, send an installer (I don't these people know more than I do about these systems and installations). I told them I felt that was useless they said they would have someone call me to see if more could be done. I will ask for a replacement of the OTA module because it has never been replaced. I have 2 of these receivers one is rock solid been working without a flaw for over a year, never had to reboot it. I could swap modules but I really don't want to disturb the working one. It always takes the wind out of the CSR's sails when they want to blame my system and I tell them I have two 722K's in the same entertainment center, connected to the same electrical circuit, connected to the same satellite and OTA antennas and one works flawlessly, the other has the freezing virus. They don't have much more to say! I'm wondering if anyone else with L752 is still having problems.

If you are just sitting watching TV, on the OTA module what are your stations signal strength, 90's or 70's? it will popup when it locks in.

It is puzzling to me, how or why, you can take identical model receivers and in some, an upgrade will break something and when they figure out a fix and send it down it may fix that one receiver and then break one that was not broken before…

Doesn't say much for the programmers at Dish. However, I think computer software programmers have reached a saturation point in that the complexity of the software they write has exceeded their ability to comprehend and manage it. Just look at all the devices and gadgets out there that must be rebooted because they have crashed. Crashed because their operating software is defective, just like Dish's. Makes me wonder about the Terminator series of movies. I keep saying to myself but skynet will crash, who would be dumb enough to reboot it?

lowest is 95 highest is 100

I am not not sure on this but too low is not good but too high is problematic also. With a high signal you may have multipath issues. this means freq., are butting heads in a sense. Too low you get lockups as well. I had read awhile back that the vip receivers have a problem within software speak what to do with low/high,,OTA signal as well as a week sat signal. I have seen and heard stories of techs that see a signal and say that's good. But they are not concerned that you have a peaked signal just a good signal. Why this is important is if it's just good and it drops cuz of a pole tree, leaves house shift , wind it will be less forgiving.
I tweak my own and make it as strong as I can. I say this because if a tech comes out see's a ok signal not all, but some my not do a thing. If you don't know what the numbers mean. Or how to play with it. Or just have no interest it makes it hard to move forward. As a test see if it's the OTA or the sat Signal. Pull out the OTA module. For say 3 days see if the problem goes a way. if not . Post your sat signal numbers on the site ask if they are normal. or low. I know it should just work, but people with the same hardware in the same town living next door to each other will have different problems. Good luck hope I can help, you may even have fun getting to know your system better.. :)

Budda,
I understand about "Multipath signals", they used to be call "co-channel" or more simply "Ghosting". Where I am all of our signals are VHF and there are other VHF stations within 150 miles or more. During analog days co-channel was much easier to see and it never happened here. There are no signs that my booster is being overloaded also. The interesting part of this is that one of my receivers never had a freezing problem until L752 came along. The work around for this problem was to not watch live OTA, and that worked for us, but now Dish is at war with 2 of our locals and if I want to record I have to use the OTA tuner for those channels. I have wondered about the co-channel situation because it seemed to start around the time we were hit with a solar storm. One might monitor CB radio to get a feel for the possibility of co-channel if the propagation of CB signals is great then there might be a increased potential for co-channel. My motorhome has a CB radio maybe I will turn it on the next time one of my receivers freeze and hear what's going on there.

I missed a recording tonight because my receiver froze in the guide even when I tried to turn it off. Had to reboot by unplugging it. Not happy. Showed locked in all my DVR Events and when I tried to access the DVR Schedule it said it could not access the program guide.

I think it's time for Dish to step up to the plate and do a "Manhattan Project" on this problem, but alas they are to busy "hopping" and fighting!

Multi-path and co-channel are two different animals.

Multi-path is the form of ghosting where the receiver tries to display the same station with pictures that are slightly delayed by being reflected from the sides or back. In analog this gives you ghosting, in digital it causes your tuner to get mixed signals and thus makes it more difficult to display anything.

Co-channel is the presence of a signal on an adjacent frequency that interferes with the picture - usually caused by poor transmitter maintenance or a cheap tuner.

Co-channel is not as much of a problem with digital signals because they are more precisely tuned (better quality of signal) and digital tuners are of better quality than analog tuners.

Starting tomorrow morning the earth is going to be hit with the energy of a really big solar storm. This may cause more multi-path problems and it will be interesting to note if our receivers with the freezing and rebooting virus will do it more frequently in the next 48 hours. If they do, this would point to the OTA module as the home of the virus.

Except I don't have the OTA module and I have been getting freeze/reboots all this week (sometimes twice a day), where as I never had this problem before I was on L752.

This may or may not be related to L752, but the receiver I am having a new problem with has worked for over a year without problem and then came L752. We are watching a recording on TNT HD, which started about 45 minutes ago and we are watching by using the "start over" option. About every minute or so the signal loss screen (002) comes up if we press the guide the playback continues, then in about another minute same thing again. We are on western arc. We did have some rain (Yea!) this evening which did cause an temp loss of signal, but not during this recording. I cannot try a reboot as the program is still recording. I'll have to check other recordings and do a reboot when the recording is finished. Never saw anything like this before! Maybe the 722k's are becoming Sentient and they don't like what we watch?
