Downgrading Package

Do you all think I should exchange the 722k? I just feel like how can a receiver start doing this as I only got it on 6/25. What should I do about 612 in bedroom?

You definitely should contact tech support. They'll either ship replacement receivers or send a tech to your home. With problems with both receivers they should want to send a tech. Sign up for the protection plan to get free shipping on replacements or a $15 tech visit. Drop the plan afterwards. Failure to update the guide is sometimes and early warning that the hard drive is heading out the door.

Are you using an ota module on the 722K? If so unplug it and see if the freezes stop. My 612's have been virtually flawless for a very long time. There are so many things to see what the problem is for you it's hard to know where to start. Here are a few;

Be very sure each receiver is well ventilated. Can't stress that enough. If you are not sure ask.
Are you in an older home where there could have an electrical/grounding issue? Even in some newer homes that can happen but more rare.
Are your signals good for each satellite?
If you have an OTA antenna plugged into the 612 unplug that too, just in case there is a problem with the antenna.

I am always suspicious when two receivers in two different locations in the house are freezing or rebooting, makes me think it's not the receivers.

Even though receivers only a few weeks old the hard drive can be heading out?

Receivers are well ventilated just check to make sure. I live in a apt complex. Signal levels are 59 on sat 72, 55 on sat 77 and 46 on sat 61.5. No over the air antenna plugged in.

I do have the protection plan since day one it's just that when they were here last month I paid $15 now it can be another $15 and with my job that I explain earlier it's gonna get difficult to keep having to pay the fee. :-(

I wouldn't go in for all that stuff people are saying about the protection plan. You had this stuff installed less than a month ago. That means it's likely defective, and leased besides, so the onus is on Dish to fix it, and it should be done for no additional charge. Just make sure that they agree to do it for free before they send a guy out. You're obviously having financial issues, or potential ones- I wouldn't pay for any protection plan or service call stuff. Many states have lemon laws that stipulate that stuff that breaks within the first 30 days must be exchangeable for a replacement or a refund gratis.

Besides, in my experience, Dish hasn't charged for service visits. I had to call them out here twice and they did them both for free. I am not sure whether that was because I pinned them down with a "This is free, right?" on the phone, or they just tend to waive the fee for people who fit into certain categories (Pay on time? Under contract? Simple problem to fix?) or whatever. It's vaguely possible I have a notation on my account that says something like "Will probably leave rather than get something repaired if we try to charge him $95 to fix equipment he doesn't own" (Which I would). ;)

Sometimes Dish can come through unexpectedly. I just got a free Roku and $5 off a month for 12 months, and am very happy about that. None of these companies are all good or all bad. I had a very rocky start with Dish where I felt screwed over on several things, and I think I'm gradually getting to the point where I'll likely keep them beyond my contract's expiration. The Roku and the discount were very nice incentives. I think a lot of this business relationships aren't so different from human relationships- there's an ebb and a flow, good and bad, and sometimes people or companies surprise you and make things a lot better. Of course, sometimes things get bad enough that one has to move on, also. But nothing's certain. You just kind of see where the river takes you and make the best decisions you can for yourself at any given time based on the information you have available.

Hi All

Spouse wants us to go back to dtv due to problems. Can we avoid the eft if we downgrade to dish family and keep service at that level? Dish would have to come down as I can't have 2 dishes up. I'm in a apt complex. So dish and receivers would be put away but acct will still be active. Is this possible?

I don't think that would be a problem, technically your not canceling your just moving down a package

Back the Truck up ... you had a service call in under the first 3 months of install..? That trip should have been free and even if they did charge you that charge would cover you for another 90 day if just by chance some other part of the system was a fault.

If the install has LOS issues a real DNS tech should see it and get your contract axed with no fees as i have done it in the past for installs that where screwed since the start 3days -6 moths.

722 are rock solid like others are saying so it could be a referb look at the back of the box for white sticker if it looks like more then one over the other you got some second hand box.

The warranty is 60 days. On day 61 if you call in, its at $15 paid service call. And an additional 60 days after each visit. So say they come out on day 39, it resets back 60 more days.

can anyone confirm what causes a loss of credits. Do you only lose them when you drop below at120?

You don't outright lose the credits. If you have the top 250 and they're giving you $20 off, then you downgrade to top 120 (where they give $10 off). You lose $10 in credits but retain the $10 they give for the top 120. Anything below top 120 doesn't receive credits to begin with I don't think.

I should say that b4 i got this 722K and 612 i had a 1h/1j but due to the constant error 1303 on the joey spouse wanted to exchange. This is when the 722K and 612 were install on 6/25 which of course as of this morning the 722K still freeze and reboot. I check the back of the receiver and it only has one sticker so I would think its not a refurbish unit. Now spouse asked me since error 1303 seems to be fix with latest software update could we go back to 1h/1j? if yes How much do you guys think it would cost to go back to 1 hopper and 1 joey? By the way i will not have a gap on employment so downgrading package is no longer needed.

Thanks

wow 60 days guess or office we are old school and go by the 3 month policy prior to that it was 6 months of no charge. Faulty gear can happen but strange this customer is having so many issues. On the hopper issue id hold off for a year still having issues on my side with this blasted thing not working most of the time.

PM with Matt from DIRT he is sending out a replacement 722k. Let see if it fixes issue. 612 hasn't done the error i mention again so i didn't talk about it. probably a fluke

Yes, but if you are going to do that, go down to the Welcome Pack.
