Dish dispute with Sinclair...reached deal in principle

Thank goodness all of my family and myself have a 722k with over the air antennas hooked up.
My biggest question now is if I will have to set manual timers for CBS or if Dish will leave the station guide info up.

10 days of hell huh? (Viacom and D*)..little overdramatic there huh?
for 98.5% of the people they really didnt care that Viacom was gone. But I'm sure you saw the episodes of degrassi that you "missed"

Tell you an honest confession Iceberg, Degrassi hasn't been the same since Miriam McDonald left two years ago. I've follow her on Twitter Miriam McDonald (OfficialMiriamM) on Twitter and she celebrated her 25th birthday weeks ago. I've told her happy birthday and she said thanks for the birthday wishes. That's my second reply from Miriam McDonald herself! :) Feel like a friend of the show you dig! Miriam's fellow friend and ex-Degrassi co-star Cassie Steele is now on The LA Complex, had you ever heard of that show on The CW? I know Miriam's other colleagues Nina Dobrev is on The Vampire Diaries and Shenae Grimes is now on 90210. Everybody has heard of Drake!

I keep reading where people say that using an antenna for ota is a solution. There are many of us who don't have that option. The locals that I receive through Dish are not available consistently ota, signal comes and goes with the atmospheric conditions. With the old analog technology, we could still watch an inferior signal, but not with digital.

I really don't get it when it comes to local channel's position. You'd think they'd be happy to get their commercials out there through any means available, including satellite. Oh well, not the first time I haven't understood something. :)

New season doesn't start until mid late sept now - not like when I was young when it started with the first days of school.. So there is time On the positive note - this will probably bring the Albany CW into HD on Dish.

One word... Stalker... :)

1996 Telecommunications Act deregulating media ownership.

I thought that allowed duoplies (ownership of two stations) not ownership of three. In Baltimore they accomplish this by creating a second family owned company that owns one station. Are they doing something similar in Nashville?

I know this discussion is about TV stations, not radio, but there's a dozen or so radio stations and at least 5-6 or more are owned by Clear Channel. This all came about after the rules regarding not allowing ownership of more than one outlet in a market was changed.

Ditto. I wish they could leave the ota guide information since it comes from Tribune ,not the station itself.
And don't anyone from Dish say otherwise, but Dish is the one who will manually block the data. They'll claim "the stations pulled the data" but that's not true.

Nashville they are playing the other fun game. There are 2 games that Sinclair plays to get stations
-have a family member run a "separate" company
-shell company....

Thats what they're doing in Nashville. The CW is owned by "Tennessee Broadcasting" yet everything is "outsourced" to Sinclair
Also in larger markets (more than 8 stations in the market) you can own more than one station but they both cant be in the top 4 in the market.
In smaller markets they cant own 2 stations period...hence the shell company

In three markets, Cunningham owns the fourth-highest rated station while Sinclair owns one of the three highest-rated stations. The FCC's duopoly rules do not allow common ownership of two of the four highest-rated stations in a single market. In Cunningham's three other markets, there are too few stations or unique station owners to permit a Sinclair duopoly. The FCC requires a market to have eight unique station owners once a duopoly is formed.

the only thing I watch on my local CW other than Ring of Honor Wrestling is the occasional episode of Maury

true but the rues for TV and rasio are different. For TV only a duopoly is allowed and that under only limited circumstances.

thanka Iceberg. That answers it.

Now we'll pop some popcorn, throw in the blu-ray copy of "Mirror, Mirror" and wait until this gets settled. Let the waiting game begin!

I'll be losing my Fox station. The only time I watch Fox is when my NFL team is playing an NFC team at home. So I have until early October for this to settle.

there was cable in 1960s? i thought it came out around late 70's early 80's? i may be wrong.

Wikipedia note:
"Leroy E. "Ed" Parsons is known for building the first system in the U.S. that used coaxial cable, amplifiers, and a community antenna to deliver television signals to an area that otherwise would not have been able to receive broadcast television signals. In 1948, Parsons owned a radio station in Astoria, Oregon. A year earlier he and his wife had first seen television at a broadcasters’ convention in Chicago. His wife wanted a set. In the spring of 1948, Parsons learned that radio station KRSC in Seattle—125 miles away— was going to launch a television station that fall. He found that with a large antenna he could receive KRSC's signal on the roof of the Astoria Hotel and from there he ran coaxial cable across the street to his apartment. When the station (now KING-TV) went on the air in November 1948, Parsons was the only one in town able to see television. Soon others in town wanted the same service, and Parsons helped them hook up to the system. He charged them a fee for his work and materials but never instituted a monthly service charge. In May 1968, Parsons was acknowledged as the father of community antenna television. Former Astoria resident Byron Roman was also involved in early cable invention and distribution.[10] According to MSNBC's Bob Sullivan, however, Parsons charged a $125 one-time set-up fee and a $3 a month service fee."

i believe the statement about small market is not true. In the chico/redding market, both the cbs and nbc stations are owned by the same company, they even use the same news department and i would think we are considered a small market

after reviewing wikipedia looks like knvn is only manage by the same company as khsl but they have different owners
