I've got three HDTVs in my house. I was thinking of going to hopper from the 722 and the 6xx I have. I am assuming dish is going to charge for install and all that. Will i also lose my package I have now? Or do i get to keep that.

Equipment (Hopper, 622, etc) have no affect on your programming, if that's what you are asking. Hoppers (each) and up to three Joeys are now $50.00. Installation is usually $95 unless you have the DHPP. You should contact a DIRT member for exact costs.

Unless you have a grandfathered programming package, it will not change. For anyone interested in upgrading, I would recommend making a post here and a DIRT member will contact you as soon as possible.

I have been with Dish 12 years after 5 with Directv and called Directv to see what deals I could get after Dish told me $50 for a hopper and $30 for OTA. I was surprised how nice the DTV CSR was and how helpful. They put a nice del together that even in months 13-24 would be $4 more than Dish, but for a better package. I called Dish and said I want to stay, but need some incentive. Best they would do is free hopper and $10 credit for 6 months. I told them the DTV is a better deal and they were kind of oblivious, not to mention even their loyalty person was not super friendly nor very knowledgable. I'm torn, I have a 622 today and would like something with more recording capacity and capabilities, so hopper or genie both are attractive. These companies don't get what it is like to retain customers when they offer better deals to new customers, it is like a a slap in the face, thanks for being with us 12 years, but a new customer is more valuable than retaining you.

If you want the same as the new customers get, then you will have to switch providers. To see what the best deal you can get from DISH,call them ask to be transferred to their Loyalty Department.Good Luckl:)

free hopper upgrade and $10 off for six months seems like a good deal to me. If nobody ever had to pay for upgrades or standard pricing could you imagine what we would be paying each month? If you like what dish has to offer then take the deal, if not then switch. Perhaps you will like the genie and what direct has to offer, or maybe the grass isn't greener. Only you can decide, but realistically there has to be some costs incurred at some point or neither company could stay in business.

I understand I don't expect anything for free, but when you stay for 12 years and others ping pong back and forth to get best deals every 12-24 months Dish should try a little harder, I only asked for loyalty once before in 12 years I believe when I got my 622 like 4-5 years ago. So asking for new customer incentives once every 5 years is not asking too much. I am going to wait 2 weeks as the GF switches next week because Dish International packages are more expensive with less channels so I will try out her Genie next weekend and decide.

I just upgraded to the vip922 slingloaded. No problems here runs great. Seems faster, and the sling works great! We'll see in 6 months if everything is still hunky dory :)

Well I must say Dish has impressed me. I emailed ceo@dishnetwork.com and explained my situation and that I have been with Dish 12 years. I got a call within 24 hours. I finally spoke with the gentleman who basically not only gave me what I asked for, but basically said he was throwing in everything he could to make it like I was a new customer. He wound up giving me hooper, sling and OTA for no cost then threw in $25 credit for 12 months and upgraded me to the Dish 250+ package and 3 months free BB@H and the premiums (HBO, SHO, etc). I know why I have been with Dish for 12 years. Their customer service at the escalations was great!

Awesome.

Dish seems to have a better feel for what it takes to keep a good Customer.

Thanks for doing the legwork. I copied and pasted your post for future use. :)

I have a Hopper installation scheduled for this Friday. This is my current configuration:

  • A 722K that services our family room TV via HDMI and a small TV in the kitchen via coax.
  • A 722 that services the basement and den via an HDMI splitter and a bedroom via coax.
  • Both receivers are set to single mode since we do not generally need to watch different programming on the TVs each receiver services.

This is the configuration I'm considering:

  • A Hopper for the family room TV via HDMI and the kitchen TV via coax.
  • A Joey for the basement and den via an HDMI splitter.
  • A Joey for the bedroom.

But I have a couple of questions:

  • Can the Hopper output via coax or am I going to have to install a Joey on the kitchen TV that currently receives its signal via coax?
  • What would be the monthly billing amount for a Hopper and two Joeys compared to my current 722K and 722 bill?

Thanks

No it does not output via coax

I'd like to add 2 upstairs DVRs ... currently have a 722 in the family room and one 211 w/ external hard drive. I could either swap the 722 for a Hopper and add two Joeys, OR just add two more 211s w/ external drive on each. It seems like the two 211s might be an easier install and perhaps cheaper, as running coax from the family room to upstairs could be a pain.

Also, will there be any issue running 4 lines from my dish to the receivers if I go with the separate 221s?

Is there anything I am missing that should push me towards a Hopper / Joey solution?

(Edit - I haven't been on here much recently, still trying to get up to speed on the Hopper / Joey thing.)
