I'm needing to buy a few extra lightning cables and was curious if there were any deals out there. I thought I remembered reading something in a thread a while back that only apple cables would work properly. Is that correct? If that's the case I would assume apple sets the pricing on them like they do the phones and iPods so their probably the same price anywhere you go? Anybody tried any 3rd party cables with any success?

The non Apple adapters will not work with the audio docking devices. They work fine for charging or data transfer.

Ended up going to the Apple store and shelling out over $100 for adapters to once again have music via the car stereo, and several iHome products at work / home.

I have third party adapters that work fine with my iDevices. Spent between $1 and $20 for things that normally run between $20 and $100.

There's a good deal through Google offers:

For $15+$6.99 shipping, you get a lightning cable, a wall adapter, and your choice of a 30 pin block adapter or the cable adapter. So basically, for the price of a lightning cable, you also get an adapter for your 30 pin device.

It does not say if it's an apple cable, but at that price, I doubt it is.
