Hi

I have a new Dish Box that was hooked up to my HD TV using a HDMI cable.

It's a VIP722K DVR,

Recently my audio tuner gave out after many years and I bought a new one with HDMI pass-through.

I had a terrible time getting it to work, it would work and then it wouldn't.
I blamed the amplifier and it was driving me crazy until it just quit working completely.

This morning I gave up and reconnected the Dish Box directly to the TV via the HDMI cable.

That's when I discovered that it was the dish box that didn't work, not the tuner.

No matter what I did I couldn't get the TV to detect the signal from the Dish Box.
I tried all 4 HDMI inputs on the TV and no luck.

I can't live without TV so I tried to connect the Dish Bow using component cables.

That worked fine so I have the TV working but now I don't have it connected to the tuner.

The Dish Box has only one set of component outputs each for channel 1 and 2.
If it had more outputs I could jut run one set to the TV and the other set to the tuner for just the audio.

There is actually a separate set for channel 1 but these only produce a corrupted image and buzzing sound I'm not sure what they are for?

Here's my question, does anyone know it I can split the component cable, i.e. splice in a second set of cables so that I can output to both the TV and the tuner from the same output on the dish box?
Or would this over stress something and not produce a strong enough signal or cause some other problem.

The other option could be to split off the sound cables and run the video to the TV and the audio cables to the tuner.

My wife doesn't like to have to use several remote controls to operate the TV, she would rather be able to still use the sound from the TV without the tuner on.

I'm 75 and all this bending over and pulling the components in and out is getting to me, I'd like to get this done.

I don't want to ask for a new dish box, I just went through that and lost all my saved programs and the HDMI didn't lip sink with the TV very will anyway, it worked a lot better running the sound via the component connection.
If you ran both the TV and tuner, the sounds sync was way off.

So I'm happy if I can just connect every thing with component cables, I also have a DVR I'd like to get connected, but I'll worry about that later.
Would it really kill Dish to have a few extra connectors on the box so you can connect to a tuner, a TV and a VCR or DVR?

Any one know it there's anything like a USB hub and will allow you to input one component signal and output several?
I'm not really an audiophile I'm more of a computer geek.

Any advice welcome.

Mike

PS, I just realized that the Dish Box has Digital Audio out, and the tuner has digital audio in, but I don't have a cable for that so maybe that's an option if I buy a cable?

I would check the HDTV setup menu and try setting your resolution to 720 and then see if you can get video out of the HDMI port. I would also try a second HDMI cable.

All the outputs on your box are live at the same time.

What Lucky said, especially a different hdmi cable. My 722 is connected to my audio receiver using the optical audio option (toslink, iirc), and works well. I also have my tv's audio out (red/white analog) connected to the audio receiver, for the times I just want stereo sound.

I think he's saying component where he means to say composite. If he hooks his composite input to the component output, he'd get a mono picture and garbage for audio like he said. But maybe he doesn't even know what component is, because he doesn't seem to care that he's not getting HD out of the composite output.

Thanks for the help.

If I set the HDTV Option won't that cause the TV output 720 instead of 1080?
It has always been 1080i in the past.

I tried another HDMI cable and no luck there.

I don't have any trouble getting 1080i input from my computer to the TV.

I ordered a Digital Audio cable and will try that when it gets here and leave the TV connected with the RCA cables.
If that works I'll just leave it that way.

Thanks again.

I'll be back it this doesn't resolve the problem.

I just wanted to make sure the resolution set on the receiver want higher than what the TV could handle. Maybe the receiver has a malfunctioning HDMI port.

BTW, concerning the question mark on the pic, the green is part of the component video (red/green/blue), and the red/white/ yellow to the left is composite connection.

If the OP doesn't know the difference between composite and component, he may not have component cables.
To the OP. to use component output, you must have cables that match the color of the outputs. So a component output would have cables with red/green/blue ends. You would also need a seperate red/white analog audio connection.
When you connected the hdmi cable directly to the TV, did you use the remote to change the input source to the hdmi port?

Hi

Just a follow up.
I never did get it to work.

I couldn't get a signal either with HDMI or Digital Audio Cable to either the TV of the tuner.

I currently have the TV connected via RCA cable to the TV and the sound cables directly into the tuner.

This doesn't give me an HD picture on my TV, so I'm going to have to get Dish to give me another Tuner.
This one is only a couple of months old.

This will be my forth tuner in 2 years.

dwarren 2: Yes the TV was already using HDMI for the input, it just quit working, I've tried all the inputs to the TV there are 4 HDMI but I don't get a signal on any of them.
I can get an HDMI connection from my computer to the TV.

It sure sounds like the HDMI port on the rcvr has possibly gone bad. Get a set of component cables red/blue/green each one is dedicated to a video signal which will give you better PQ then hooking up the yellow (composite) video cable. For my setup currently everything is hooked up to the tv and an optical audio cable from the tv to my HK AVR 1650 but that's mostly because I haven't had time to clean up the wire clutter and I haven't a new center channel but for the time being is will suffice.
