Charlie Ergen: Dish’s Blockbuster Didn’t Have “Guts” To Challenge Netflix

I will be upset if i can't get my discs by mail!
I haven't received a new disc in 31 days and I have 13 movies in my Q and the two at the top show as "available", one of which has been available for four the last weeks. I've called and complained twice to Blockbuster and twice to Dish. Today I spoke to a Account Specialist and was told she would give me Blockbuster package for free for 3 months. Of course if the next 3 months go like the last month free wouldn't seem like such a great deal. I don't watch the stations that are included.

I got a game in the mail yesterday.

Got 1 wii game, sent it back Friday, just checked my queue ( We are processing your next shipment. It will be sent out as soon as possible.) Says available now so hopefully they'll get it shipped tomorrow.

Seriously? Have you seen how much he's spent on investments in the last couple years? Why do so many people on here think he is such a terrible person?

Because he is the head of the single worst company in entire nation to work for.

I am on the 2 disc plan and for awhile there it was ok. Now it has slowed way down

I've been saying since last year , DISH will continue to close the blockbuster stores till they are all gone and then the company will cease to exist ,except for online video streaming per DISH receivers. I see it happening before the end of this year.

I agree to disagree. They are remodeling a bunch of locations I believe, and I believe they will all have the dish hopper kiosks eventually.

In other words. " If Blockbuster employees are reading this. Start looking for another job SOON. "

I think the stores are GONE as soon as their leases are up. I bet the stores that are getting renovated either just renewed their leases before the fed shot down Ergen's streaming plans or are in long-term leases. There are two regional satellite installers that have those Hopper displays in their retail locations where I live. If you want Dish service, then you have to go through these installers to get it done. The displays in the Blockbuster stores are just there to maybe snag some video rental customers. The work still has to be done by an installer Dish has a contract with locally. Dish could just as easily set up kiosks in Wal*Mart or Target where potential customers can order the equipment and programming and schedule an install.

Even sending out color fliers using the USPS would be cheaper than having some of that tied to retail locations. Lord knows I get enough junk mail from Comcast, Mediacom, Charter, and ATT wanting me to subscribe.

The dish kiosk at my store is manned by a guy who works at the dish call center in town. I'm pretty sure he transfered over to work out of the store and he just sells and the work is set up directly by dish as if he was sitting in the Sales department at a desk.

There where some retailers who where allowed to sell in blockbuster locations.

As long as Dish can charge for blockbuster at home, you will never see a Netflix app on the hopper.

With all these buyouts, in surprised Dish has not tried to buy Netflix.

That's scary I love Netflix and dish would destroy it in weeks.

He does often penny-pinch in areas that need the money spent, while blowing huge wads of cash on poor investments.

Some of those investments may have had possibilities. But, as was the case with BB, the proper followup investments and decisions weren't made after the initial purchase.

I think if you really dig below the surface of these investments you will find they had a plan. But in order to implement the plan they had to first get federal government permissions to proceed. So a business's only choice is to make the investment and hope the appropriate government will allow them to more forward. Its not like Charlie could go to Congress, the FCC, etc and ask them before a purchase,"will you ok this before I spend a dime on this?". Dang, you can't even open a lemonade stand today without government approval.

Didn't Dish have to get government approval even to purchase Blockbuster? And timing is critical on plan implementation.
