I've heard that Dish is shipping people a OTA module to go into their receivers if it doesn't have one with no charge cause of this not to mention give other incentives to make customers happy, can anyone confirm this?

A little over a month ago Dish pulled our local ABC affiliate over a contract dispute and it lasted close to a month. Dish was sending out OTA modules to customers in order to keep them happy. The issue with this was the CSRs at Dish were telling customers that all they needed was the OTA module and they could get their locals. They never said anything about them needing an actual antenna. Luckily we sell antennas along with Dish so we kept busy selling and installing during that time period.

DIRECTV Could Lose 87 Stations In Fee Fight http://www.tvpredictions.com/dfight021913.htm

Sinclair Broadcasting has to be one of the crappiest TV companies I've seen next to Disney. They own some stations in out market too and they have a dispute after every contract.

Yep, they suck. Dish just went through this with them about a year ago if I recall correctly. I swear one of our locals until recently was doing the news from the top of a cardboard box. Cheapo.

I just called Dish and complained. After the first CSR gave me the official blurb I used the magic word "DirecTV" and she immediately put me thru to a retention specialist. After a few minutes of complaining that I pay for locals and Dish isn't giving them to me he gave me a $50 credit, 50% off HBO, Blockbuster and Encore for 6 months and he shipped an OTA next day air for free.

Those are my local affiliates and I never even noticed they went silent since I have an OTA setup and don't use the "-0" references to them in the program guide. My Dish account is currently on pause, so I don't have guide data for the locals anyway and use Titan TV for that.

I have an Antennas Direct DB-4 in the attic with the standard booster and everything except the CW affiliate ( 40 miles, 75% ) is above 94% at 20 miles from the towers. Thinking about maybe a 33dB booster ( and possibly a ClearStream C4 ) to see if I can pick up Ion 54 miles away off-axis.

anyone suggest a good antenna that isn't no more than say $30-40 to connect to a receiver with an OTA module in it with a distance to the provider of about 55miles?

Hard to know without more info about your location and what channels you are trying to get, but that distance with that budget seems optomistic. If you're in a real flat area with UHF channels maybe. Need to know how far the tree is from the towers.:) AVS Forum has an antenna area with a lot of experts and also an area for your local channels that might be able to help you better with antennas.

Only slightly worse that the DeathStar (aka Northstar). And BTW it not just Grant that is having problems w/Fox. Others are also Lubbock,TX is w/o Fox on contract dispute. What is happening is the affiliates are being squeezed on both sides. Fox is wanting more money from them so where are they looking for more money? Ta Da Dish, Directv, & the cable co's

Being on pause is that why you have your location as in France?

Speaking of news, our local CBS Sinclair station ran a "news" story on the dispute with Direct this morning on the early addition. Basically it was an interview with an exec from Sinclair stating that their valuable programming has to be paid for by carriers such as D* and it's going to be shut off if they don't reach a deal by March 1st. He also advised people they could put up an antenna to get it free, but his best advice to D* customers is to call Directv. This was all presented as a news story and I assume they are running the same story in the affected markets. This is in addition to the crawl that is still running across the bottom of the screen.

That's pretty funny. Pretty much the same story that Sinclair used in their dispute with Dish late last year. And people like to blame the Sat companies... LOL!

I got one but it was like pulling teeth. I called Dish told them I was unhappy about Fox. They transferred me to Advanced Tech for some reason. Dude swore up and down they did not have an OTA module for the Hopper, so much for "Advanced". Kept stonewalling me about how "all the other providers would have this problem at some point too" he would do nothing for me.at.all. So I got on the chat. They apologized for my issues. Offered me $5 for 6 months and I told them I would rather have the OTA module. So they are sending me one. Gosh you would think that would be the go-to solution!

I went the chat route and was offered $5 for three months, I declined and asked about the OTA module. I was later offered $5/month for six months and again declined and asked about the OTA module. The rep told me that was not an option. I would rather have my channel back via OTA than the credits. I guess I will have to play CSR roulette.

They are not handing out OTA's, but If you had taken the credits, it would have paid for it. Use your head!!!!!
