I wonder if you can still use non programming incentives, like the $100 visa gift card offer that VISA has. Will they still offer the $10 off for 12 months for signing up online? Should be interesting to see on May 22nd

The online discounts will be gone starting with the new promo. Customer automatically gets the full discount if they qualify. When signing up for Hopper with Sling and AT120 or higher the customer has the choice of the discounted price OR a free iPad.

Yup they just added the ipad2 price to the etf.

I was hoping for a programming package that would not have sports and was priced right.:(

Yup $30 a month ETF.

Wouldn't surprise me if that $30 a month ETF remained even after they stop giving iPads away.

They probably will do that. You would be better off buying 2 HWS and all the equipment at Dishdeopt. Then paying someone to install. At least if you want to cancel you can sell the 2 HWS or whatever you decide to get.

I bet Apple will stop with the iPad 2 updates soon.

That's even more idiotic than the normal ETF. With the normal ETF, they could at least argue that you're breaking a lease, even though if I had my way they'd have no leg to stand on since they're getting their receiver back (unless you steal it from them.) But with the new promotion, they're giving you the iPad. Not leasing it to you, GIVING it to you! Since you're not leasing the iPad, they should have NO right to charge you for it.

Not everybody would look at the value of the iPads, as they would look at the big picture FREE IPADS, Which of course we all know its not free, Then they will see how much it really is with the monthly fees, but nonetheless is a good start-up promotion.

Why is it not free? How much money does the customer have to pay?

I've never known DISH to drop a fee once they charge it. Even if they just roll them all into one big additional receiver fee, like they did in 2010 with the equipment fee hikes.

Come on man. If you pay an extra $30 per month or an extra $360 that you wouldn't otherwise pay for TV for a year to get a "free" iPad you are effectively paying $360 for an iPad.

It's not a terrible deal but it's not free. This is just another marketing thing to drum up sales like Sunday Ticket. That is fine but I hope Dish and their retailers are upfront with these details and really explain the two promotion options. If people are just saying "hey sign up and get a free iPad" without mentioning the discounts they could have instead they are being pretty shady.

My point is they don't need to offer any discounts at all. Everything the customer gets is free. It just depends on what discounts you want. If the customer does not have to anything then it is free. As to which is the better deal, that is up to the customer to decide.

They don't have to offer any discounts at all unless they want to continue to get new customers and compete with Directv and cable.

Well you can say its free, but you'll actually paying for it "other ways" which is fine I have no problem with that, but newcomers will get confused if all they see is free iPads with no details(besides the small fine print) other than the promo details.

Just saw on our order entry site that there is an option for an iPad Mini as well. If this is true then the customer has the option for the 12 months of credits, an iPad 2 or an iPad Mini.

That is a nice touch. I like my full size iPad 4 but my sister has an iPad Mini and that is really nice too. The full size is obviously better for video but I read on my iPad every night and it can get a little heavy lying on your back and holding it over your face. Between the iPad 2 and Mini I think I would probably choose the Mini. My number one option would still be the iPad 4 for the retina display and increased horsepower though.

The other thing is that the iPad Mini is the newer product and thus is likely to receive software updates from Apple for a longer period of time from when a customer gets it if they get it during the promotional period, and be compatible with new apps for a longer period of time, again starting from "today", not starting from when the two devices were first produced. The iPad 2 is already two generations behind- I'm sure it's still an enjoyable product to have, but a year or two from now and beyond, it'll probably be much less enjoyable to have than a now current-gen iPad mini, unless those extra inches of screen space on the iPad 2 really really matter to a given individual. And, to be fair, it's possible that those extra inches of screen space do matter- I don't own a tablet, I've never seen a 10 inch tablet, and I've only seen a pair of 7 inch tablets (Neither of them iPads) that relatives have very briefly. So I'm not an expert or anything. :)
