Blockbuster to close all 300 remaining stores and distribution centers by end of December 2013 or ea

Why? I must admit I do like their crepes.

Went there because of an ad for pecan pancakes and pecan syrup. Got there, placed my order. No pecan syrup. Pointed out ad to manager. Tango Sierra. No such thing. Then had bad food there on another (ill advised) trip. Wife unit agreed to never return. Talked me into it when they had some new sandwiches. They were horrible, and never returning to IHOP is basically written into our marriage contract.

Ate twice at Fudruckers, got quite sick both times. Probably will never return, but if I do, no hamburger. Steak much safer from a food borne illness point of view. But I'm not fond of cow. Too many good little piggies in the world.

Denny's has been far too racist for far too long. I can spend my money elsewhere, or go on a short diet.

To quote Christina Crawford, "I am not a fan!" However, both are a million times better than Waffle House, which I equate to doing time in purgatory.

Not too fond of them either, but will eat there if that's all there is near the hotel.

The last Family Video in my parts closed at least a year ago. Now that I think about it, I have no idea where any B&M video store is anywhere nearby. I'll look into that for grins.
I would hazard to guess Family is existing in mostly rural areas.
Well, I researched and my guess was quite the opposite, at least in Indy. There are eight stores, all in the inner urban areas. None in the burbs. For me, big question on future growth.

While you are both correct, that still doesn't change the fact that Netflix still makes a lot of money renting out discs. As a matter of fact disc rentals have funded the expansion of their streaming services in other countries. This shows me that Dish didn't have the right people in place to take over BB.

And hardly anyone on these forums ever addresses the fact that while BB was floundering, Family Video was thriving. So much for the "b&m stores are dead" meme.

Like I've said numerous times, Dish never fixed the problems with BB. And, as other companies have shown, those problems were fixable.
Just because Family Video has found some success in the marketplace, does not mean that B&M rental is not dying. It just means they have found themselves a niche in the marketplace. I mean, considering where the B&M rental business was 15-20 years ago in comparison to now, it's in shambles. Hollywood Video and Blockbuster are both dead, and even Family Video, the so called success story in all of this, is still only available in select states.

I guess FV prefers to grow cautiously and expand wisely vs saturating (some) areas with stores. I also think that FV locations, whether some or all I don't know, are franchises.

"As the final closings were announced for the last 300 Blockbuster Video stores, the former Boone Blockbuster appears to be heading to IHOP"

I "intensely dislike" IHOP. So much so, I'd eat in a Denny's before an IHOP and I DETEST Denny's.

Denny's over IHOP??? :loco::wacko:

Though I stopped going in to BB once Dish ended the disk program for sure going to go in, it's for sure the end of the video store as we have no other stores in our area. Kind of look back the the era of the video store from the big stores to the mom and pop ones that at one time seemed to be on every corner. I can remember as a teenager/young adult I think filling out a "application" for a membership card :) wish I still had membership cards lol

Got an email yesterday that the Blockbuster DVD by Mail was being discontinued. I liked that I could get Bluray versions of movies and TV shows. I have had the cheapest plans with both Netflix and Blockbuster for several years. Even though streaming is nice I still prefer having a disc to watch. Hopefully Netflix will continue to provide this service.

Most, if not all of these stores, are leased. The real estate value doesn't enter into the equation...... ;)

If they can get out from under the lease because the property owner can lease the property for more than they can get from BB, it could enter the equation.

Almost all of the stores near our old house (where we were saturated by BB) have been re-rented or leased by new tenants. Yes, a landlord can leave it empty and still collect rent for an empty store, but NO ONE likes to see empty storefronts. It makes the complex look bad. Most smart landlords will let a former tenant out of the lease once they have a new tenant or serious interest in the space.

Now, near my work, the BB closed about a year ago and it's still sitting empty. It does have a "For lease" sign out front though. I suspect this was one of the close-it-down-when-the-lease-runs-out locations.

I only read up through page 4, but did anybody go through how much all these companies lost last year? Netflix shut down disc by mail because theyblost so much, Redbox is nice and all, but they raised prices because their net loss was about 3 times as much as Blockbuster.

Yeah we have one that will be closing and it's a corner anchor of a plaza, hope it doesn't stay empty for to long

If BB could have been successful with Dish in charge, I believe Dish would have made them the new retail locations instead of using the retailers that they have today. They would have had profits coming in from the video rental and lowered their cost as a bonus. They could have gotten away with fewer video rentals if they made it up with satellite sales and the money that they would have not had to spend on retailer incentives (commissions). I am not sure if they would have been able to provide service on the level that retailers currently do though or if it would have supported that many BB stores.

Some guy on FB said the Boone BB store was set to become an ihop.:D It must be true then dahenny.
