I just received the boxes today to return my receivers and remotes. Of course my daughters didn't tell me until today that they were missing there remote and had been missing it for weeks. I was wondering if and how much I will get charged for 1 missing remote.

Nothing. They request them back but you won't get charged for it if it's not sent back. As long as the receivers and access cards are sent back you're fine

:welcome to Satelliteguys DrDigitized2!

Did they specifically ask for the remotes?

Worse case wait for them to bill you and buy one on eBay if they do. Doubt they will.

I've never sent a remote back and have never been charged.

If you do I would be shocked. Hell if you do PM me and I'll send you one you send them.

Wow. Thanks for the quick replies. MrSmith198025, I will keep you updated. Raoul5788, they did not specifically ask for them but its printed on the box where to place them. Hopefully everyone is right. :D

Wouldn't lose any sleep over it ...

I've sent many recvrs back and never send the remotes.

Tech has specifically told me they don't want the remotes returned.

Yeah I don't know why they would. They have never sent me a used remote so I wouldn't see what use they would get out of them.

When I upgraded they never asked for the remote
When I had a DVR crap out they didnt ask for the remote

My stepdad just got a replacement DVR (other one crapped out) and they didnt even put a remote in there (thought they were suppose to)?

I got a replacement HR24 recently and it had no remote in the box either.

Some of what is going on = after years of packing (paying for) remotes and jumpers that get trashed, someone decided to ship receivers without the additional stuff. This was known as stand alone eq I think. The idea is that the installer is issued a supply of remotes, fresh batteries, jumpers, PIs and splitters. He tests them as they are installed and discards the defective 1% while effectively using the connecting materials. Likewise, HSPs are shipped dish components in efficient packing modules of about five or six dishes, bases, & masts etc.

I think the early (& very cool) DVR and TIVO remotes might have a value but they are being replaced by a standardized unit. Then there is that voice control thing they are advertising.

I get a sense DirecTV has a need to know where the boxes are running to protect their revenue. The boxes themselves are disposable and not repaired often. It is the Access Cards (ACs) that are jealously guarded and controlled.

My in-laws have gotten a remote with every box they have had, and now have three upstairs, three downstairs. Why they need that many, who knows, but they just hang on to them, instead of sending back with their receivers, when they upgrade.

IDK why they would want the remote back, unless they're going to spruce it up and market it as a "new" remote to sell for $20 at Walmart.

3 million dollars

When I switched from DISH to DTV a few years ago DISH charged me $10.00 for a missing remote when I sent back their receiver.

That is DISH. They live on a strange planet. You wouldn't believe the crap they run their installers through.
