Retailer Chat Recap 12/12/13

While I am not sure about this I think Direct has phased free HD? not that it's a good thing, hope us current folks will continue to get the free HD which sounds like may be the case? Humm...maybe more HD :) Sent from my iPhone using SatelliteGuys

So, does the HDFFL for new customers still exist for having autopay/online billing?

HD being the standard now, this is a step in the wrong direction.

Yes, existing customers will continue to get Free HD for Life. New customers will get Free HD for 2 years then its the going price at that time (which is currently $10 a month)

After the price increases in Jan/Feb, and the extra $10 HD fee, expect a stagnation of new customer signups. Cord cutters have just another reason to do so.

You're thinking of something else. If you have 2 or more 722s (or 2 of any of the 622/722/922 class), then the ones after the first will have a $17 monthly fee each. It's been that way for years. Since you only have one 622, you are only being charged for the 211 ($7).

FOLKS...

RELAX THERE HAVE BEEN NO ANNOUNCED FEE OR RATE INCREASES TO CURRENT CUSTOMERS ON THIS CHAT.

(However we do expect there to be some changes announced within the next two weeks, which are expected to take effect later in January.)

SO PLEASE DON'T FREAK OUT YET ABOUT YOUR BILL. :D

Dish shoots themselves in the foot again.... Makes it a little easier to sell Directv as their HD is only free for the first 2 years.

But seriously, lets NOT give customers a reason to stay with the service after their contract is over.

If they eliminate free HD for life and raise programming prices, that will eliminate a lot if not most of the savings that a promotion would have. They may see fewer new signup's and/or more people drop the service after their contract is up. Reminds me of them not charging for DVR, the second tuner on dual tuner receivers after getting a bunch of people hooked onto it then later starting to charge for it.

I had a customer come in so I'm behind now.

I am seriously not happy with the change to the HD promotion. All this will do is cause more turnover after the customer's contract is up.
