Is a SWM 16 kit a new LNB and switch, or just the switch? I have 4 H25's and 2 HR24's using my SWM3 LNB and 8way splitter right now and looking to add a Genie for a total of 13 tuners. Will it be just a simple swap of the switch or is there a different setup in the receiver settings for a swm 16 ?

Just swap out the switch. It may well come with a splitter or two. Directv may want to do the swap themselves. Sometimes they let the customer do it.

Does the Line from the LNB go into SWM 1 ? What is SWM 2 for ?

You'll need to run 4 lines down from your dish. Then you'll put the 4 lines in the sat ins on the switch (bottom n
Of the switch normally) then you'll need to make 2 jumpers, 1 from SWM1 to a SWM splitter then the other jumper from SWM2 to another SWM splitter and then feed your lines in to the 2 SWM splitters. Make sure you don't put more than 8 tuners on 1 SWM splitter. Then you'll need to run a power supply line to the power supply port on the 16 or tie it into the power passing port on SWM1

Actually he will need only one eight way splitter for the existing equipment. The Genie can go directly on the swm1 and the others on a splitter off of the swm2.

The swm lnb has one output, but can support only up to eight tuners. That's why you need a swm16 switch.

Sorry, I was combining this thread with another one in my head! Like Claude said, you need a new lnb, the legacy ka/ku type with four outputs.

In order to switch to the SWM16 you must replace the existing SWM3 LNB with a KA/KU Legacy LNB. You will need to run the existing line plus 3 additional lines from the LNB to the SWM16 module and connect them to the 13v, 18v, 13v w/ 22Khz, and 18v w/22 KHz ports on the module. You can connect your 8-Way splitter to the SWM1 port (Assuming your not replacing one of the IRD's currently connected to the splitter with the Genie). Your Genie can connect to the SWM2 port on the module. Keep in mind that you will need to replace you 21v power inserter with a 29v PI, and this PI needs to been in line with the SWM1 port.

disregard the 75.5 & 95 dish spots at the top
only use one splitter. The Genie gets pluigged directly into one of the SWM ports (where it shows a splitter)

ok this is great to know.. the other part of the equation is that, as previously mentioned on several other threads, I'm north of the border, paying monthly for my account that is under my US mailing address and my US phone number that I have. Yes, still not legal, but hey, what can you do. Anyway, since I'll be adding my 7th receiver, is it a guarantee that they will want to send a tech to Install the genie to verify all the receivers are at one location, All my receivers are in my home so I have nothing to hide, just that, I'm in Canada, so obviously getting a tech isn't an option OR will I still be able to install this myself ?. My plan was to order it from Solid Signal or Sadoun and call in the activation. Any suggestions?

In addition to my previous question, can one opt to add a second dish with swm LNb instead of going swm16 switch to accommodate more than 8 tuners...

Also, got the following email response from customer service related to self install of genie... My take on this is I'm better off ordering from solid signal and calling in the activation ?

Dear Mr Xxxxxx,

My name is Xxxxx and I am an email specialist from DIRECTV’s Email Department. Thank you very much for writing back. I understand your concern about the installation fee. I assure you that I am going to resolve this issue today.

While we cannot discount the fact the you are able to do the installation yourself, our system automatically determines if your order requires standard professional installation. Also, some equipment could not be processed without including a standard professional installation specially if this is going to be an advance equipment.

Professional installation is also required to ensure functionality of your system. Customers who had a technician install the equipment typically have fewer technical concerns post-installation.

DIRECTV installation is fast, straightforward, and comprehensive. Our technicians are well-trained to ensure that the installation of your system is seamless.

Thank you once again for choosing DIRECTV as your service provider,Have a wonderful day!

Perhaps, but I suspect it will cost more than a swm16 installation would be.
