Dying with nothing to watch the last two weeks, I grabbed the first 3 episodes without realizing what it was.
Previously, I'd tried The Closer for a few episodes , but it just didn't work for me.
This seems to be the spinoff.
I did read this thread from the beginning, and still do not know why a spinoff was warranted.
...nor why they kept the lead actress.
Mary doesn't seem the most compelling character.

From the comments, Rusty must have become her surrogate kid, something I won't enjoy one bit.
However, the rest of the cast seems fine, as well as the few stories I've watched.
I'll continue for a while and maybe catch up.
 
It became a spinoff when Kyra Sedgwick left the show (The Closer). Her character was great. The supporting cast was good enought to try
to keep it going.
